Yes, a Star Destroyer is a Battleship, in much the same way that this:

You've got to love the logic of thinking that if you can move something, then you must be immune to that same thing striking you. I guess that means a human must be bulletproof, since humans can lift whole boxes of bullets. And a pickup truck must be immune to a tree falling on it, because it has a 2 ton pulling capacity.

EDIT: somehow, I confused the numbers for the asteroid.

I grew up in Los Angeles and have vacationed in Hawaii. I have yet to see a 70 meter beach ball. But then again, given this, I suppose you could call that rock "beach ball sized"

So MOVING an asteroid is equivalent to getting hit by one now?

Meanwhile, Dominion roach ships which are a fraction of the volume of that asteroid slice through Klingon battlecruisers as if they're made of paper, and people like this just ignore it. Honestly, there are times I wish you could just shut all of the kiddies off from being able to post anywhere on the Internet. If people were somehow magically prevented from posting anything related to science unless they actually had some background in the field, you'd see a lot of changes, all of them positive.

To be fair, he only technically lost due to a tranquilizer finally kicking in. :D

Of course they are. That's completely obvious when you think of how easy it is to perform a BDZ with cruise missiles.

By the way, it's spelled i-m-a-g-i-n-a-r-y, not m-o-v-i-e.

Exactly. ST ships that are bigger than some SW ships aren't necessarily better than them. And by necessarily I mean that the Enterprise might be able to beat a small garbage hauler. Maybe.

Careful now. It might have a laser cannon or two.

Oh, wait, aren't Trek ships immune to lasers?

Standard Trekkie explanation: this is a cutter beam, not a laser.

Thats scarcasm, right?

If you're really bored, look up some of Darkstar's old threads here. Also check the "Encyclopedia Moronica" thread if you really want to see legendary trolls.

Is it true that there are a notable number of people who believe that a small sized explorer vessel from a civilization with 300 years of experience in spaceflight can beat a medium sized dedicated warship used by a culture with tens (if not hundreds) of thounds years of history in spaceflight?
It's like a match between a Greek trireme and for e.g an Brooklyn-class cruiser (with the noteworthy exception that triremes are the top of line purpose built warships of their age and the technical disparity is a mere a 2500 years). In such a contest it is possible to use arguments like 'wood will not ignite the AP ammunition'... which could be true, however the sanity of person who bets the trireme will win is in question.

Who cares if the wood won't ignite the AP ammunition? Using any ammunition would be a waste of resources.

The sole weapon of a trireme was ramming with its anti-wood ram: the trireme would be destroyed by its own attack.
