Leman Russ Questions

Post by locomotive23 »

About the leman russ I'm wondering does anyone have a good description of all its variants? I've checked out the descriptions on forgeworld but some of them arent that detailed. Also about weapons sponsons i noticed some tanks have them and some don't, so I'm curious why some units use the sponson mounted weapons and some don't.

Why? Each forge world creates Leman Russes in their own way based on their interpretations and records of ancient technology*, and nothing short of Mars itself telling them to will make them change. (Look at how hard the Black Templars had to push to get Land Raider Crusaders made out-of-the-box instead of modded by the chapter [in-universe]). Thus why each world's models are unique.

*Ancient tractor technology, that is. ;)

The Lexicanium is good if you need a quick overview, though like all wiki stuff, details are best left to more reliable sources:

Leman Russ Battle Tank
Leman Russ Conquerer
Leman Russ Demolisher
Leman Russ Executioner
Leman Russ Exterminator
Leman Russ Vanquisher
Atlas
Bombard
Destroyer Tank Hunter
Thunderer

Ghetto Edit: As for sponsoons, I'd say some of them need the room for the extra equipment and larger generators, and others lost them to reduce weight and get some speed.

They are all pale comparisons to the true manly awesomeness that is Leman Russ. Able to drink a keg in a single gulp, able to eat a cow in a single sitting, impregnates entire harem wings by pissing in the corner. A man's man.

Bullshit. The Leman Russ only exists to make the Baneblade look even more awesome than it would otherwise. :)

Yeah, but his kids turned out to be furries, that's a pretty big stain on his otherwise flawless man-resume. :P

That's clearly heresy, no heretics shall have the honour to be made an ornament of on an Imperial Titan Tank.

The sponsons are apparently optional extras for the tank (any variant), like metallic paint and leather trim :) For some reason, Forgeworld don't like 'emn, and none of the models or artwork in the Imperial Armour books has them (except for one, somewhere in IA 1). There appear to be two main hull forms - the Phaeton (represented by the plastic kit) and the Mars. The Mars has a different hull glacis and engine compartment.

The other main differences are turrets; the Ryza-pattern tank has a different turret to the Phaeton, slightly bulkier with riveted armour plates.

(The Lexicanum site appears to have a slight error in the Leman Russ page regarding Forge Worlds of origin. Oh, and that colour scheme is horrible.)
"So you want to live on a planet?"
"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"

But Russ got him back later, in their continuous series of honorable, manly, not the least bit homoerotic duels. Big oily men wrestling about, crushing the furniture, sweat streaming off their nearly naked perfect forms.

Quick someone call ein, we got a fanfic in the works here.

Can someone tell me what really is that tank that Starglider showed us because my curiosity has been peeped. I see various 40k parts but what is it? Or is that the truth that it is a light weight tank destroyer?

Any ways Leman Russ are here to provide scapegoats for the Chaos...

It's a mostly-scratchbuilt conversion. No idea what it's intended to be, but those turrets over the tracks are from Leman Russes and Chimeras, the central hull gun is from an old Vindicator surrounded by more Chimera turrets, and that double-barrelled gun in the turret sponson looks like the guns from 2 Basilisks. No idea who built it, though.

It's a light-weight tank destroyer for the HAB, which are known to use Bolos as MBTs.
