Guild Wars Eye of the North
Is anybody playing this shit right now?
It's an expansion not a full game and barely worthy of its own thread, but I thought I might as well mention it.
My recommendation is if you're not a rabid GW fan, don't buy it. You need at least one other game, there's no game breaking skills, and about the only reason to buy it if you were so enamoured with the original GW story you need to find out what happened with Gwen. Most people don't care about the lameo story, but EOTN fixes the only real thing left fixing. Not worth buying just for that though, it's like buying a whole new condo just to fix one little dent in the drywall that doesn't really matter a shit. If you've got old GW, stick with it.
It does have a far more epic feel to it. It's too bad all the Guild Wars games didn't have stories, music and voice acting like this. Too little too late though, this is one final corpse fucking in my opinion before they come out with Guild Wars 2. Also extremely short as in Fallout 1 short... I know people that beat it in 2 days. But that might be a bonus to some people.
My guild is going strong, www.armyguild.com check it out. Anybody interested in GW PvP should join my guild, and PvE too, since it's a lot more organized than some random PvE guild. I am Strange Circus the leader running it with Ar-Adunakhor, and don't laugh at my website or I'll kick your ass ahahaha. Or at the least if you're a GW fan join my forum, it's actually alive.

Is Gwen the little girl from the first one?
I think I gave up during nightfall, the game was good fun... but the lack of real upgrades eventually slowed the games appeal...

It's not really the "SDN" guild anymore, grown a lot bigger than that. There might be two or three from SDN in it now, and uh, 70 who are not. And yeah ahahaha thought I might as well mention "Strange Circus" was me and the leader wasn't some random fuck.
Only way GW doesn't grow stale is if you PvP and PvE at the same time. If you want Zac I can teach you how to PvP from the start. GW isn't the kind of game you want if you're dying for new content since it's not paid and they obviously can't release as much crap as WoW, but I find most of the "appeal" is in making skill bars, like Magic cards. If you like farming, if you like leveling, if you like grinding, GW is not the game.
This means reading every skill in the game and doing a lot of reading on other forums to figure out what the "meta" is, but sure is better than fucking grinding.
Latest upgrades include a "Hard Mode" that makes monsters tougher and a farm nerf that makes it impossible to farm except in said Hard Mode, but again not worth getting into it for pure PvE IMO. PvP, another story.

Yeh I could never get into PvP, sucked far too much at it.
If i get time to find my guild wars disc and download the rest of the content I may still technically be in the Guild, if inactive for a long while.

No problem, it's not the old guild though just add Strange Circus and talk to me when I'm online and I'll add you to mine.
For downloading the content use the -image parameter so you download it all at once overnight. You don't need the disk to play: just get the game client from the website and download the entire game, as long as you've got the password. And if you don't have the password, they can reset it for you. My disks are god knows where, and I didn't even get disks the last two times but just got them online to avoid the hassle.
PvP is really where all the fun is at in GW, since the PvE content gets really old really fast unless you've only got an hour a week free. If you've got one weekend free and you're any good at all you beat the whole game (one weekend being 20 hours.)

Cool, i'll look into it when I get home.
I still have my password for logging in and my user name so I can probably download it then. I never had a physical copy of Nightfall, just Guild Wars.

One thing to make sure when using -image is the first time you download, it'll update the game client and not really download any of the content. You'll have to quit Guild Wars, then use the -image shortcut again. You'll know it's working if it says downloading 100,000 files and it'll take hours depending on your Internet. Not ten seconds.
Oh and when you're done take -image out of the shortcut, or Guild Wars won't start. Or make a different shortcut.

I grabbed EOTN and while its mainly more of the same, thats not too much of a problem.
Golden Fang Strike looks to be a quite imbalanced skill because it will give the deep wound even if you miss or are blocked, as long as you are under an enchantment. I'm expecting it to get nerfed soon.
The dungeons I have seen are interesting, though I've seen quite a few that you go to a 'lower' lever yet have more sunlight. I'm still not through the main campaign because I'm also doing all the side quests, even though none of the PvE only skills look useful for my monk. Then there are all the dungeons to do. So I'm not putting much stock in the people who rushed through the primary campaign, then complain that its too short.
Also apart from some sides quests which only give items I'm not aware of anything that requires you use a specific hero, which is my main complaint about Nightfall.

Really? It doesn't seem that broken at all. It doesn't add any bonus damage, and Impale is still the kingskill for assassin spikes. Sure Impale has a longer reload, but that doesn't really matter when the spike is supposed to rip 600 and kill. Applying Deep Wound over and over doesn't sound as great as it seems to me... Wild Strike and Repeating Strike still do extra damage. Even Jungle Strike is better. You can have those and use Impale.bilateralrope wrote:I grabbed EOTN and while its mainly more of the same, thats not too much of a problem.

It's about the same level as Pulverizing Smash, a little more powerful but nothing that breaks, nothing that can't be done with other skills already.
I haven't had much time to do the campaign yet, but as soon as I can I'll weigh in more. All I have to say is the Stargate sequence and the run from the Destroyers was fun.The dungeons I have seen are interesting, though I've seen quite a few that you go to a 'lower' lever yet have more sunlight. Except that you don't need to use it with a lead attack. All you need is an enchantment and some daggers. Sure it will miss, but its still a cheap spammable guaranteed deep wound. I can see X/A's switching to daggers for the deepwound after their attack chain, then switching back to their initial weapon.brianeyci wrote:Really? It doesn't seem that broken at all. Really? Guild Wiki says it must follow a lead attack. If you can use without then it's a bug and it should be fixed. I also don't understand how it can deep wound even if it misses, but I'm too lazy to make a sin right now so I'll take your word for it. If it does then it'll be fixed and isn't part of the skill description.

I've seen XoO members talking about it working like this over AC, but I haven't tested it yet. When you use a dagger attack out of sequence then it simply misses and recharges instantly. However all the other offhand attacks have "if it hits" in their description and this doesn't. So applying the deep wound even when you miss would be working exactly like it is written there and ANET is pretty good at making a skills text match its effect. Which would mean an instantly recharging 5e deep wound skill.brianeyci wrote:Really? Guild Wiki says it must follow a lead attack. If you can use without then it's a bug and it should be fixed. So I'll test it later tonight just to be sure.
Cure Hex is also a pretty nice hex removal skill.
Edit to add: Here is a screenshot showing it working while I'm blind and without a lead attack. Deep wound + instant recharge.
Cure Hex is great. Might not be as good as Holy Veil in PvP or the Deny Hexes combo with some other ones. Much needed boost to healing. But not enough of a buff that healing's better than protection. What it does is make hybrid monks king.
Nobody believes me, but what I've been doing lately is replacing my Remove Hex on my standard Monk bar.
Zealous Benediction
Gift of Health
Reversal of Fortune
Spirit Bond
Guardian
Dismiss Condition
Holy Veil
Cure Hex
What you do is cast CH first, then you've got a six second window to cast GoH before casting GoH disables CH. So basically you've got a 170, 105 and 100 heal with 11/10/10 with minor runes and protection spells. Very powerful healing: the hybrid monk is clearly the best for TA and RA now.
And yeah I believe you now .

I've heard some good things about EotN, but I'm not sure it justifies plunking down $40 for a few extra quests/missions for a prophecies campaign quest that shouldn't have been broken in the first place. >__>
GW:P could've been much better, honestly. GW:Fa *was* a bit better, but much more "let's lead our players by the hand!" then I liked. I haven't played Nightfall purely because I don't really trust the game to be good enough to buy.
O.o then again I'm a PvE carebear, so I can't really talk.
