Crossover fic help

Post by Setesh »

I'm writing a mega-Crossover fic and need some ideas for who goes where.

Basic Plotline: Someone has kidnapped Dawn Summers(buffyverse) to make use of the Key. Unlike Glory they aren't just ripping all dimensional barriers down but selectively bringing things from one universe to another in order to sow chaos on an absurd scale.

I need more X-overs and am trying to avoid the more common ones to prevent accidental plagiarism.

Rules:
-Destinations can only be used once but source universes multiple times (example: Spider-man and wolverine may be sent to separate universes but once something is sent to the marvelverse nothing else can be sent there unless its from the same 'verse ie. If you drop comic- Spidey in LOTR you can later drop comic Daredevil, but not movie Daredevil) You may also use destination universes as sources.

-Please state source material for character, especially if they have been portrayed multiple times, if they are from a series from what part of it (example: If you say Lucifer specify which one (Gaiman's, Constantines?) or if you use James Bond which movie he's from, or Harry Potter which book?)

-Keep in mind this is to create chaos not apocalyptic events, no dropping Daleks on the smurfs, or similar absurd mismatch. This is not a deathmatch fic, some X-overs will have little to no combat. Shaking the foundation of the multiverse not rampant destruction is the point (not that I'm adverse to it.

-There is no real hard and fast limit to what is sent, one person, a single item, an army, a battlefleet, are all good as long as its not simple 'overwhelm through numbers' as the only point. Hero or villian it doesn't matter (though I want to try to avoid sending both)

Here's the List I will update with suggestions as I use them and my own ideas. As well as things that are off limits. I will state right now no Culture unless you find an equally absurd universe to send them to.

Sailor Moon [Genma, Onimusha 4:Dawn of Dreams

Star Wars (dropped on the Jedi council epII I think)[Belgarath and companions, The Belgariad (After ‘Queen of Sorcery’

Firefly(post Serenity)[Andromeda Ascendent with Crew, Andromeda first season

Star Trek(TNG) [Slippery Jim DiGritz and family, The Stainless Steel Rat series

LOTR:ROTK [William ‘Wiz’ Zumwalt,Wizardry books by Rick Cook (not sure when though I have to reread it first.

Vampire Hunter D (book series Volume 4: Tale of the Dead Town)[Buffy, Buffy The Vampire Slayer (post series)

How DARE you even dream of sullying the shining example of sci-fi that is Firefly by stacking it up to the slimy, plasticized dreck that is Andromeda?

(I kid. A bit.)

That sounds like the best one to me. seems to me that Mal's verse-weary pragmatism will be fun to compare to Andromeda's perky idealism.

Try dropping Buffy into the world of Vampire Hunter D. Set on Earth in the year AD 12,090, 10,091 years after a nuclear war that devastated the planet, and 5000 years after the fall of the vampire empire that arose after the war. People have been brainwashed to forget many of the vulnerabilities a vampire has, e.g., garlic, crosses, so someone with knowledge of these weaknesses can make a lot of money as a vampire hunter. They'd have to watch out for many genetically engineered monsters that the vampires created, including fire dragons, as well as other vampire hunters, who often try very hard to eliminate the competition.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Anime VHD or Book series? there are some differances. Buffy would get stomped in the world described in the books, its a lot worse than the anime versions.

Stargate needs to be in all. Blame Carter for crossing the quantum multiplex device, which causes all of this. It has happened before.

Unleashing Jim DiGriz on Trek, oh yes! I reckon he will feel morally obliged to show them just how bad their supposed security is.

MY first bit of crossover advice is not to overdo it, but since that cannot be avoided....(Seriously, why do you need Lord of the Rings, is it THAT important that you cram Fantasy into this?)

One thing has to happen so that this horrible awful interdimensional fuckup takes place. Fortunately most of the universes you've listed have pre-existing occurences of temporal fuckup, or something similar. So you can basically have some kind of distortion/wormhole/black hole/space blowjob occur simultaneuously in every universe that Plot Devices the way to your intended scenario.

But seriously this is reallllllly overdoing it.

Since I started the fic with Sailor Moon Onimusha crossing there was fantasy before LOTR. And since I am limiting destinations to single target I'm limiting it far more than most multi-cross fics do.

Someone didn't read the opening post.

But seriously I'm the one who wants to write this so isn't the opinion of 'overdoing it' only matter if its mine. At least I'm only crossing one or two at a time (with exception of the meta-plot) not trying to cram them all into a single 'verse' and get it to work. If it makes you feel better think of it the way I'm writing it, as a series of short crossover linked by a metaplot villian.

edit-P.S. If your not going to contribute a x-over don't clutter the thread, I don't mind the advice, but at least contribute to the point of the thread at some point in your post.
