The funny thing about a lot of filmed sci-fi is that so many of the things you see happening in it actually make more sense if you assume that there's an atmosphere in space

perhaps he would like to explain to george lucas why he thinks it couldnt work as since the gent wrote it he must have some reasoning that it must work ....I mean he is the one who decides end of the day... personally I thought it was a special energy mine with a specific fusing type but hey....

"Seismic" only means that it causes vibration in the Earth (in our, earthly sense). So, basically, the name of the weapon means "A charge that causes vibrations in rocks". How it does it cannot be inferred from the name of the weapon, and it's obviously not sound from the visuals.

Therefore, Phoenix is a dumbass.

It could be a combined laser/particle beam where most of the energy is in the laser. AFAIK you'd have to be firing a neutral particle (i.e. plasma) beam which deionises enroute to get that kind of glow.

Well that and if the beams were exactly coaxial and cotemporal the particle beam particles would scatter the laser light to some extent, though I'm not sure why you'd do this; presumably the presence of the particles would have to enhance energy coupling to the target enough that it's worth wasting some beam energy.

True. One particularly idiotic trektard on ST.com insists that the borg cutting laser can't possibly be a laser even though dialog says its a laser because Fed ships are immune to lasers.
Is that Jay or Pheonix?
Jay. Just one of his many evasions he uses to avoid admitting he's full of shit on the 'no-laser' crap.
as an aside, SSFPheonix is insisting he isn't Evil Shadow, thoughthey have the exct same posting style, they've posted at the same time, and their arguments are virtually identical.
Most trektard arguments are virtually identical.

As already pointed out, "seismic" doesn't mean sound. Furthermore, the name has nothing to do with operating principles. Finally, phasers, photon torps, disrupters, every other Trek weapon make sound too, so this dumbass has just thrown-out every Trek weapon. Hell, a sonic weapon was used against the E-nil once and they measured its power in "decibels"

They also (not coincidentally) have the characteristic that the more real-life knowledge you have, the less convincing they are. That's why the doctors, scientists, and engineers don't find them convincing at all, but the kiddies can't see anything wrong with them. That's actually true of all pseudoscience, which is why creationism is similarly more popular among people who never learned the necessary subjects in school. And of course, in both cases they claim that the educated people are the ones who are doing everything wrong, being dishonest, engaging in a conspiracy of deception, blah blah blah.

But I'll say this for them: Trektard debaters helped prepare me for dealing with creationists. I could have easily been floored by the tactics of creationists if I hadn't already seen this behaviour from Trektards.

Well, it looks like SSFPheonix finally conceeded on ST.com.

Of course, in this case, "concession" involves him screaming about how Darkstar's canon overrides Lucasfilm's and Paramount's policies, childish insults at the "Warsies," and ordering - that's right, ordering - the "Warsies" to get out of ST.com.

I started from the main page...and stopped at the part where they claimed ENT-era photonic torpedoes were on a par with heavy turbolasers. :kill:
