I'm new on this playground, and if putting words in my mouth and calling me a fucking moron is the game you're playing, it's just not my thing, and I'll bow out and leave you to enjoy yourselves.

Sincerely. Really. I regret having intruded.
Typically, anyone but dishonest fuckwits will clarify what they mean instead of whining about how the other person is "misinterpreting" them when someone is doing just that. If you're going to whine about being called a fuckwit though, you clearly haven't bothered lurking much.

Part of the aforementioned Jesus Points that Mormons try to get is pretending that they have more converts than they actually do. For instance, Japan. You may have heard about how Mormon missionaries going to Japan go through intensive language training before heading over (they don't learn to read or write it usually, but in three months they can speak it fluently). You may also have heard their claims of thousands or even tens of thousands of converts a year.

Most of these converts don't actually stay in the church. They might show up out of curiousity and hang around because they think it's interesting or a new possible social club. Many even get baptised and added to the rolls of the saved, or whatever they call it. But by New Year's they're mostly gone, bored with the Mormons or off finding something new to do, and so even if their names are counted, they're not really converts.

Mormons claim that their church is growing rapidly when it's really not. In terms of actual practicing members, the numbers are staying about the same. High birthrate, but also a high rate of people leaving, and not really many converts. They're not dying anytime soon but they're not taking over.

Well I must admit I had a lot of fun visiting the mormon temple when I was in salt lake city. Mostly because I always think of wacky christian offshoots as only existing in exotic far off places like the mid-east, but here we got one practically in our back yard. Its kinda cool.
