School Guards break girls's wrist when she drops cake

Its a long article, but basically a 16 year old girl in a California high school was bumped into in a line, and dropped the cake she was carrying. She was told to clean it up, and did so. They apparently weren't satisfied, and told her to clean it up again, which she did. She was then told to go over it a third time, and she did that... after which there were still a few crumbs left. By now thoroughly embarrassed, she tried to leave the area...

The school's hired thugs jumped her at that point, driving her to the floor and breaking her wrist.

Another kid recorded it on a cellphone and that kid got assaulted and arrested. When the beaten up girl's mother found out, she contacted an attroney and threatened to have the JBT's arrested, at which point she was also arrested...

There's seriously no words for how fucked up this is. This girl should end up OWNING that school district.

Fuck... I'm trying and failing to think of a contemporary nation where this sort of shit would happen. Lots were it could be gotten away with, but none really where this sort of power mad abuse would happen in the first place considering its in a fucking school over fucking cake.

Now that its on the Internet I hope ever cocksucker involved with this shit gets roasted as they rightly deserve.

Plus, as mentioned in the article, the guard called the girl a "nappy-head". Yeah... pulling out the plans for MechaSherman are looking more and more appealing every day.

It seems like it was at least in some part racially motivated, which is unsurprising (sadly), one of the guards yelled "Hold still nappy-head!" when they jumped her. Also, not only was the girl expelled, she was then arrested for battery because she pushed a guard (trying to defend herself) and littering. I'm just appalled by this story to be honest. The fact that they made her clean it up THREE TIMES tells me that they were looking for something to get her on, I mean all arabic people are guilty of something right.

Looking at those pictures says it all. The girl is dark-haired, probably an immigrant (from what one can see and based on her name) and the guards are all fat, shavenheaded troglodytes. So the racists apparently decided they can do whatever they like for shits and giggles and unsurprisingly, nothing is going to happen unless this gets enough publicity to cause a major backlash.

Fuck... I'm trying and failing to think of a contemporary nation where this sort of shit would happen.

I can see it *happening* in other nations - it only takes one mentally unstable hire-a-thug to create a mess like this.

But I'm struggling to think of a situation where security, law enforcement and the school would go after the victim and anyone related to her - family, friends, witnesses - like these people have. Getting bumped in line is now punishable by expulsion, arrest, physical violence, having your family arrested and mother fired from her job?

Please tell me every civil liberties organisation is on this...

Me too Bounty. The only thing I can think of is it's part of racial tensions finally boiling over... that it's always been there, seething in this community, with white people hiring only white people and waiting for just the right environment and situations to attack minorities. Then 9/11 gave them the chance, or at least the illusion of chance. I keep forgetting that the civil rights era was not a long time ago and fifty years doesn't wipe out racism. At the higher level it could be the school administrators fearing for their careers in a legal-happy culture where everybody fears a lawsuit just for being a lawsuit, not for having any merit. Also, a disdain of initiative and whistleblowing and a culture that hates "rats." At the thug level it's just blatant racism.

I want to shove this in the fucking face of anybody who says racism isn't a problem in America, and especially in the face of anybody who wants unrestrained power to security officials.

The duties of these "security" guys in high school isn't to take down would-be cake droppers or stop school shootings. It's basically a glorified hall monitor, or is supposed to be.

At my high school the guy wasn't wearing a T-Shirt with security on it. He wasn't wearing shades. When the teachers needed furniture moved he did it, and he hang around at lunch in the cafeteria and made friends with the kids. It's probably standard practise now to have a "security" guard in all high schools in North America but the attitude of this security guard and the kind of person the Principal hires is totally up to the administration.

WHY is it so hated to be the whistleblower or similar? The soldiers who revealed Abu Ghraib's inhumane methods apparently have suffered from civilian pressure due to it; the British soldiers taken in by Iranians some time ago were screamed at by several US citizens (and at least one reserve colonel) for being "cowards" and "unpatriotic" for not fighting to death; and the US soldiers stationed in Iraq who report how badly the situation is going are outright dismissed by most of the right wing and even subjected to accusations of being unpatriotic. Really? The district I was in in high school had it's own police force, complete with guns and Crown Victorias. Their HQ was right next door to us.

And I did not grow up in a high crime area. It was a relatively wealthy section of the suburbs.

What sort of horrible crimes were happening to justify a force like that? And why the hell wasn't the real law enforcement - you know, the trained ones - dealing with whatever criminal activity happened around the school?

You got me. By the time I went to public school in that area the force already existed so it never occurred to me to think that it was weird for them to have one and I haven't thought much about it since.

Alright, a couple things. First off, running a few Google searches, I'm finding *nothing* about this from any of the major news outlets, yet all sorts of stuff from any number of other sources.

Secondly, looking at some of the pictures, apparently a few other kids started filming the incident on their own phones once the first one who did was tackled. And this is the truly interesting bit: The boy who was filming and got subsequently tackled was black.

So, not jumping to conclusions or anything, but this appears not only to be racially motivated, but I very much doubt the 'liberal' *cough cough* media will pay *any* attention to it at all unless people make a huge fucking deal out of it.

This sort of thing pisses me off to no end. I already know the reason why it happens, but it's truly pathetic that society has degraded to the point that this sort of thing doesn't get reported by any major outlets *unless* people make a huge fucking deal out of it. The whole Jena racism clusterfuck, including false arrests and pointless charges, didn't make any headlines until thousands of people showed up in town to protest. Unless everyone spams this around the internet as much as possible, the same will probably happen with this story: An attempt to be buried and forgotten.

This country is truly pathetic in that the news, whose responsibility is to report on this sort of bullshit when it happens, has to be dragged kicking and screaming to report on racist actions supported by local government as opposed to what OJ's been doing, how Britney's gained five pounds, and who the pope waved at during his latest visit to wherever.

At all the schools and colleges that I've been to, there's been an copper who goes to all the schools in a particular area, who the kids/students get to know and can talk to do if they are worried about anything. If anything amusing like a riot happens, they call in a riot van.

Seems about right, to me.

I didn't think it was even possible to have my standards for this country's society lowered even more. Apparently what happens to a couple of them-there brown and black kids is less important than stories about a goddamn toilet-paper theft. And when this *does* get reported in the major outlets, it won't be because this is a case of blatant racism, unjust, and travesty of US society, but because, just like Jena, thousands of people drew attention to it.

LA Times story

The mothers of students involved in a recent altercation with a security guard at Palmdale's Knight High School are demanding that the guard be fired and their children not be expelled from the school.

"I want everyone to be held accountable for the actions that wronged me and my daughter," said LaTrisha Majors. "I want to stand up and make sure this doesn't happen to other kids."

On Friday, she joined a group of students and parents in a protest outside Knight High.

Majors said the security guard fractured her daughter's wrist during a scuffle in the school cafeteria Sept.18. The tussle allegedly ensued after 16-year-old Pleajhai Mervin dropped pieces of a birthday cake and failed to clean up the mess to the satisfaction of the security guard, Majors said.

The fracas was recorded by a 14-year-old student who also ended up in a scuffle with the security guard, according to his mother, Angela Williams. Williams' 16-year-old daughter Kenngela Lockett also tussled with the guard to help her brother, the mother said.

All three students were booked on suspicion of battery and were suspended, Majors and Williams said.

Majors said she was charged with battery for allegedly assaulting a school staff member while she was at the school later that day to check on her daughter. The mother spent a night in jail before being released. She denied any wrongdoing.

Williams' son remains in custody because he had been on probation for a separate incident, the mother said.

School Principal Susan McDougal told reporters at Friday's demonstration that the matter was under investigation and the security guard had been placed on administrative leave. Officials from the Antelope Valley Union High School District did not respond to requests for further comment.

Williams said it was not the first time that her son had been in an altercation with that security guard, who she said had also used racial slurs. Williams said she complained to school district officials, but nothing was done.

Yeah, all the schools I've ever studied at or worked at have had a copper who does that sort of thing, usually to give talks on drugs. But an important difference is that they are not there to provide security.

My Uni had a couple of 'security guards' but they were there to manage the car parks, they never patrolled the grounds or buildings.

You just have to love the language they use there. It was recorded on multiple cameras and corroborated by multiple eyewitnesses, but apparently it's all a 'he said, she said' and an 'allegedly happened' type of thing. It's not as if these are the most difficult allegations to verify so you can say "This evidently happened" rather than "Well, he/she said, and this *allegedly* happened". Honestly, would the same uncertain, non-confirming language be used if it were a couple white kids being assaulted by black security guards?

Even better: Would this take more than a couple hours to make national news if it happened to a couple white kids at the hands of black security guards?
