World in Conflcit Screenshot thread (lots and lots of pics)
Ubiquitous wanted more screenshots so here's a nice picture story:
The coastal town of Pine Valley, looks like any other American town, but in actual fact is held by the Russians.
US ships move into the bay to provide support.
Despite only holding the town for a few days the commies have already stamped their mark on it.
US troops deploy quickly, making extensive use of air delivery.
US army pushes onto the beach, supported by Apache gunships.
But Russian AA forces the Apaches to withdraw....
... until the US armour can take care of them.
But Red artillery stalls the attack on the beach.
Already the town is showing signs of battle.
Weakened already, when Russian infantry takes shelter in the church it becomes a prime target for the US.
The Russians push into the town square forces US ground forceas back ....
... until a cluster bomb strike evens the balance.
Back at the beach the commies deploy an elite spetznaz team to harass the Capitalists ...
... but they seem more interested in working on their tan than digging in.
After securing the town square the Russian push is finally halted at the supermarket.
But a Russian SU-25 forstalls any US advance
Their cargo delivered, US transports streak off into the sky.
A napalm strike removes the spetznaz from the beach .....
... while their advancing reinforcements ....
... are hit by American artilley.
Unable to break through the Russian defence of the town square the US Commander makes a hard choice and deploys the ultimate weapon.
Three ultimate weapons.
Hoping their armour will shield them from the fallout US tanks push into the town, desperate to take the now vacated strategic points.
Satellite images are blocked by the mushroom clouds.
As the smoke begins to clear the devestation is apparent.
The TV station is now off the air ...
... and the town square is devastated.

The battle continues ...
As Russian infantry try to retake the town ....
... napalm strikes decimate them.
Untouched for most of the battle ....
... the research station soon feels the heat of combat ....
... as the Russians stave off a probing US assault
US attempts to fortify the beach are thwarted by a Soviet cluster bomb.
Things are looking grim for the US assault ....
... as being forced to push AA forward leaves artillery vulnerable to roving helos.
Miraculously, some buildings are still intact ...
... but as Russian infantry seek shelter from napalm ...
... they are soon reduced to rubble.
As a brief ray of sunshine illuminates the now devestated town ....
... before the desperate American commander once again calls for nuclear support ...
... wiping the town square clear once more.
Eager to take advantage, US infantry deploys ...
... regroups ...
... and moves out.
As the fallout from the second nuclear strike settles ...
... Russian Spetznaz are again deployed to deny points to the Americans ...
... but their light weapons are no match for US armour.
With little time left, the American nuclear strikes have turned the tide and the US starts to take back the town ...
... forcing the Soviets to deploy their own tactical nukes.
But that glare is too bright for just one missle ...
... as the US commander launches a final nuke to wipe out the Russians as they regroup, readying to take advantage of their own nuke.
A lone Russian tank is airlifted in but finds itself without much support ....
... and what little it had is removed by a US carpet bombing.
As the dust settles the Americans find that the Russians have withdrawn ...
... and the town of Pine Valley is now back in American hands.
Well ....
... what's left of it.
"Uh, guys? We did win today right?"

It's pretty absurd that they've given the Soviet VDV troops blue berets in combat.
This nitpick has been brought to you by me.

What strategic value did that town have?

Well... okay, why were there commies there, and why did they fight to hold on to that piece of land?Adrian Laguna wrote:There were commies there, so naturally someone had to go in and kill them.Uraniun235 wrote:What strategic value did that town have?

Isn't it obvious why we desperately needed to take the town? It had a gas station, everyone knows America fights for fuel now, see:
So should I do a simular thing with the replay I have from a game on the map Liberty? Lots of blackhawks, infantry rapelling out of said blackhawks, snow, water, statue of liberty, etc.

So.. essentially you destroyed the ground beneath, just so that ... there's no more value to hold onto the land?
It's kind of lame it's only a small town. A city would have promised more mayhem.

Sadly, we can't see a urban combat where infantry can really storm into buildings.Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:So.. essentially you destroyed the ground beneath, just so that ... there's no more value to hold onto the land?

Or else, a battle in a city would be more fun.

Actually, I've played all of those games you've just listed off, and admittedly those were sci-fi settings, offsetting the fact that the nukes weren't city-busting... though the StarCraft nukes were indeed quite pathetic. Not as pathetic as the nukes in the original C&C: Red Alert, though, whose only purpose was killing infantry and power plants!Stark wrote:I guess you've never played any RTS ever, then. Every nuke in every game ever has been utterly pathetic, WiC ones are serviceable by comparison. Remember Starcraft? Total Annihilation? Seen the laughable SupCom nukes? At least they're expressly tactical nukes.
TA? The yield of the lasers of one of the weakest units in the game is rated in kilotons. Going by how much HP buildings and such have in comparison to how much that dinky laser knocks off, the fact that TA nukes take out a big chunk of a base, that's actually pretty impressive in terms of the megatonnage they must be slinging.
Don't recall any of the calcs that would tell us what SupCom's nukes are like in yield at the moment, though.
