PSP, Smartphone, or gaming laptop? I'm probably going to buy two, and I need help deciding which two.
With the PSP, I can play videos and listen to music on the go. I can also hack it to run emulators and other homebrew apps.
(and I suppose I can play PSP games on it, too )
With a smartphone, I also play music and videos, but it comes with the added bonus of being able to surf the internet almost anywhere in my city.
A good gaming laptop costs about $2000, but I could get financing. I wouldn't really mind paying $300-400 a month to play M2TW or Civilizations 4 anywhere I go.
I'm currently leaning towards a laptop and smartphone, because I can connect them and get internet on the laptop. But the PSP is tempting because my job has a lot of downtime, and they let us bring gameboys, but not cellphones. I'd love to be able to watch a video I ripped off a dvd or play a video game instead of sitting around twiddling my thumbs.
I suppose the question that could tip the scales is: How hackable is Windows Mobile? Is it possible to run homebrew apps off of it?
Which should I buy?

Gaming laptops are bad investments, I know of far too many which cooked themselves whenever they got used without a fan equipped docking station… which makes the whole idea of buying a laptop rather pointless. Don’t go buying one if you cant even afford it without a payment plan.
As for the PSP, the newest ones are much harder to reverse flash, but once you get one working they are absolutely awesome. The smartphone sucks if you ask me; I cannot understand how anyone could find a screen that size acceptable for that purpose

Gaming laptops are a pure waste of money. If you've got money to burn, surely there's better shit you can do with it than facilitating your 'must play games everwhere lol' fix. However clearly you have a pile of money to waste on useless shit as all three options are useless shit.
SS, do you mean the 'new' 'slimmer' PSPs? I don't really know anything about them, but they're hell cheap now and if I was going to get one I'd certainly want to use the hacked firmware. How is it harder to flash it with the newer ones?

For two hours until the battery runs out. While lugging a laptop+power+bag around, knowing that any serious blow will destroy it. And you'd pay $400 a month for that? Give me your trust fund NOW!Dom Ath wrote:....wouldn't really mind paying $300-400 a month to play M2TW or Civilizations 4 anywhere I go.
