SD.Net vs World of Warcraft
(((If anyone wants to repost this is SB.com I;d love to see thier take on it)))
First off..
I’ve put a lot of effort into this one so please Read EVERYTHING before posting your reply All Question will be answered!
Now then First and foremost on this insane experiment:
GOALS: Your Goals shall be, in 5 years time, complete ONE of the following.
Kill Onyexia
Kill Deathwing.
‘Clear’ Diremaul
‘Clear’ Stratholme
Now then, before you Cry impossible, please, again, read through the rest of the set up, things will be VASTLY different from what you might expect from pure ingame stuff.
Levels Why does a lvl 10 Tauren have less physical strength then a smaller lvl 60 Human? In-Game, its because of Levels, obviously, however for purposes of this RAR, many ‘in-game’ rules shall be bent.
The first one is “Levels” no longer apply. This rule is applied throughout the world to all monsters. What does it mean? It means that the 20ft tall level 15 monster is now a much greater threat then that lvl60 mouse. All monsters are for purposes of the RAR, judged by over all physical size and strength. This means that many lower end monsters will suddenly become immensely more dangerous. So all those Lions running around Barrens? Best be careful… Conversely, it means that a great deal of end game monsters shall be easier. That small little lvl65 Dwarf with an ax? He is now just a mortal sapient; a gunshot to the head will kill him.
So maul that over for a bit while I move on to part Two.
Respawns is it not odd that immense monsters simply appear out of thin air? Obviously for the game, monsters nad people MUST spawn over, and over Andover, or else the game would quickly vanish of all killable things. Once more the rules of what is “In-game” are bent to a more realistic nature.
If you kill a Sapient in this RAR, is dead. No coming back, no re-spawning, no pestering you 10min after you’ve just killed all those pesky thieves. This rule applies to the Undead and to Demons; it does NOT apply however to “beasts” or anything classified as an animal.
Resources One aspect of the game I cannot fathom is how Iron, Copper, Tin, etc, magically pop up out of the ground. Yet, if ‘real’ mining practices we’re applied I cannot fathom as to how difficult it would make this RAR.
Strange as it may be, for this RAR, yes, metal ore will magically pop out of the ground in places mixed with rock. Smash the rock apart and collect your nuggets of valuable Ore! However, unlike the game actually ‘making’ things is a bit more complicated. Gather so many bars of iron, some gems, leather and stone will NOT magically make yo u a new sword or armour. If you want something new you will have to MAKE it.
Now then, THAT is a basic overview of how things are changed for the purpose of this RAR. The world you are entering will be harder n places, but perhaps much more survivable in others.
That said, let us get down to the Actual Guts of this. The stuff I am sure many of you are waiting for. What do you get!
Here is the deal. First off, all sickness cured. Whatever you have, may have, or think you could get, your cured, forever. Sickness and diseases simply get in the way of a good RAR. For the Five years of this, you’re immune to everything.
Next item on the lest, who you are. For this, Im letting you have fun. You can choose ANY race and go ANYwhere. Lets say that you all get “Horde/Alliance” Free passes. If you want to be A Night Elf, you can stroll through Undercity without a care. If you pick an Orc, you can walk into Darnassus without a care in the world. Your mission her is to complete one of the above goals, being bogged down in interspecies and faction politics is simply too much a pain.
After that, is the one thing No RAR would be complete without, What you get to bring with you! Well I am feeling in a good mood. Not only will you have TWO MONTHS to prep for this, but you can bring anything you want with you that can fit in a 2meter by 2meter box.
Now then, WHO is coming? For this, I am going to cut out a good deal of dead weight… As of now, only the top 800 posters get to join. That’s it, you will have 800 people to help you in this. Oh, Post-count resets don’t count, so in some instances Seniority will take precedent over postcount.
Ok, so WHERE are you going to go? Well, I am leaving this open. Given your prep-time, I am leaving it open to where the block of brave SD.net members shall be magically whisked too. You have two continents to pick from, your best bet is to find a good spot and set up a nice little fort to lay out your goals. You have Four to pick from and only one needs to be completed.
One last thing. Wherever you decide to settle down, you will be provided the following:
10,000-Gold
100-Well trained horses
50-head of cattle plus breeding stock
400-shortswors
400-plated shields
400-light chain armour
4-Magic Electric Generators that never run out of power
*-Addition supplys if they are deemed needed as I might overlook something.
Now, HAVE FUN!

I assume we're physically transported to Azeroth, rather then just forced to play a game?
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

Hmmn, this heavily favors casters with armor spells, so my standard Blood Elf warlockery & shenanigans will go so much farther than before.
If I can turn the souls of things I kill into little crystal shards, I'm pretty sure I can figure out a way to turn direct-damage spells like shadowbolt and incinerate into enchanted bullets.
Imagine what a Warlock with automatic weapons, a full array of curses, and a demonic resilience spell could do.
I would, of course, set up an outpost on the shores of Westfall and start a neutral organization, much like the Argent Dawn.

Few questions though, can you choose your class and would start as relative nobody with only a basics to the "class" (aka a lvl 1 char) or as a renound veteran of several battles and capability/skill to use even the most advanced techniques and spells of your "class" (aka a Max lvl char)

"Levels" are being thrown out for this, The "skills" of the game are impossible to translate into a Real world setting. Do you know what "rage" is? does attacking someone actually give you some magical energy? Or do you have any idea how to cast a spell?
Perhaps you might be able to learn from "NPC's" in the world, or perhaps hire magic users for you and the other SD.neters. But although you can pick any Race, you do not know any of the 'skills' from the game.

then we're screwed as there's no way we could do jack shit against any of the major players in Azeroth.
best we could do is hire some to do for us.
EDIT:I guess you just don't realize how dangerous Azeroth would be for person with no other skills then those of normal 20th/21st century civilian (or military member)
Warcraft is one of low end fantasy worlds, but it's still no push over.

Not true. A quick raid on Goldshire while everyone is stripping and drinking and we've got a town right there.Lord Revan wrote:then we're screwed as there's no way we could do jack shit against anyt major players in Azeroth.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

that's ofc assuming that Stormwind won't swarm us with it's guards and while we might not able to use it's made clear that we're not immune to it.Knife wrote:Not true. and as I am now, I wouldn't set my foot inside Strat as I am unless I was forced to (there's simply not enough ammo in 2m by 2m box to clear or way tru the plaguelands

Did you read the OP? The gaurds are JUST people, A "lvl60" gaurd means nothing in this set up, a vast amount of people are made Equal to you. And this isn't a "WoW Relam" thi is the place itself, there arn't thousands of other "Players" from online here it is Only you and the others from SD.net
Things to remember, its you AND 799 other members with equipment. Perhaps yo ushould think about organizing a plan?
And why would you want to do something "AGAINST" the main powers of Azeroth? As stated yo uhave Free passes with BOTH Alliance and horde. As far as this is concered they are allies.

You don't make any sense Crossroads. You say you don't have to do anything against the major players and shakers, but tell them one of the goals is kill Deathwing. Then you want something set in World of Warcraft... without the game mechanics. Fine, but that doesn't matter a shit, because I assume you'll be taking the World of Warcraft books. Even without "level" differences you cannot train yourself to be a magic user in Warcraft without years and years of study and possibly innate talent. So then it's just a horde of fighters with little defense against magic except what can fit in a 2x2 meter box. Disaster.
You seem to want a variant of teleport a group of SDN into the past. The OP is flawed. The major movers and shakers will not take notice of a small army of men? Why not? Eight hundred men will be considered an invasion by the powers and they will move to crush. The goal is to "clear" several instances? Why?
I'm confused into what you want. Bullets > magic in general. Is that what you want? How to kill a fire breathing armored dragon without a MANPADS. Is that what you want? "Organization" has been done quite thoroughly in other threads of this nature and is very obvious. It'd be based on whoever was strongest and was leadership material in real life and probably have little to no bearing on the "forum hierarchy." In other words, real life skills. All very obvious so I don't know what your goal is in this thread.

1) How do we know if we're one of the top 800 posters?
2) Exactly how durable ARE things in this? Can a treant be killed with a headshot?
Most likely, I'd go for Night Elf or Tauren and study the way of the Druid. Shapeshifting's always useful...especially if I can, say, fly up out of reach of an enemy, then just chuck spells down at them.
Side question 3) If we're allowed to choose our race for this RAR...can we choose gender, as well? I'd just as soon avoid becoming one of the variously bizarre and deformed-looking males of Azeroth.

Azeroth (and Outland) are places where magic actually works. You can't apply our-world science, logic and physics to them.

Good luck even finding Deathwing. No one but a handful of his minions have seen him in years. Signs point to somewhere in Outland. That is, unless I missed something recent and important.
On the subject of resources, that's a game mechanic for World of Warcraft, not something you'd see in the actual Warcraft universe, which seems to be where this takes place. In the Warcraft universe, it's a few day's ride from Kargath to Blackrock Mountain. In World of Warcraft, it's a few minutes.
On the overall subject, we're screwed. Onyxia only goes down because she's caught in her lair by a commando team who have circumvented the various wards that protect the cave. Give her room to maneuver or the capacity to bring a significant number of followers into the situation and even if your army can survive you're not going to catch her. She's the broodmother for the Black flight on Azeroth, keeping her alive is top priority.
We've got what, 800 warriors with mostly poor training, a mix of modern arms and what's available? I suppose with the time we have training is no longer an issue. I also suppose that we'll be able to learn some rudimentary magic. Unfortunately, even if we spend 4 of the years training, we're unlikely to produce many powerful magi. Powerful casters are vastly overrepresented in the game compared to the overall Warcraft universe because they are essential to the kind of commando tactics employed in the game.
On the matter of respawns, they represent the fact that you should be fighting your way through miles of city (in the case of Stratholme), and there's no way to kill more than a fraction of your opponents with the number of people at your disposal. Now, if we can learn some holy magic, the rank and file skeletons and ghouls should fall before a group of 800 warriors with ease... before they notice us, swarm us, hit us with disease-causing seige weapons, and overrun us with sheer numbers. We're talking about miles of wall-to-wall undead here. Again, a powerful commando team could stay unnoticed as just another Scarlet Crusade group, and assassinate the leaders, but we don't have that kind of magic or training.
Dire Maul might be a little easier in most parts - we'd just want to bring plenty of light machine guns. Once we teach the dwarves how to make smokeless powder, I'm sure we'll have all the ammunition we need.

As far as this is concered they are allies.
do you realize that you're putting us against one of the true major powers of Azeroth (the Undead Scourge)
and lets not forget that Deathwing is a )the Black Aspect b)in hiding
and how do you suppose we get to Strathome if you remember the Plaguelands are under the control of the Scourge.
and do you really think we could keep our cool against something that are essentially walking corpses (and before you say that you do while playing, yeah because it's a game, I've played countless FPSs and still I wouldn't trust myself not to panic if stuck in true war).
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

oh and then there's a small thing that Naxxramas floats above Strathome, so if we bring what amounts to small army there you could probably bet Kel'thuzad will noticed it.
same with Ony and that's assuming we can even get past the Wards protecting her lair.
Dire Maul will the easiest as it's the only place you can swarm with troops without raising an army against you.
and Crossroads yes the Stormwind Guard will be normal men (and women), but they're also trained soldiers in plate armor.
Edit:just to qualify that "raise an army against us" line.
Should get too close to Ony's cave or Deathwing they'd send their minions and/or offspring against us (stealth is not an option for a group of 800 fighters)
again since stealth is not an option we'd be fighting everything that Scourge can throw against us, that means thousands of undead of various types and several necromancers and cultists from the Cult of the Damned.

Put bazookas and machine guns into the box. As many as will fit. Pick my starting location to be right in Ony's Lair, and only bring 20-50 people instead of 800. Shoot Ony.
Scenario completed in <60 seconds.

that's assuming assuming Ony won't notice and flash fry you first (she's got a flamebreath after all) and that's just 1/4 of the objectives doneDrowsong wrote:Put bazookas and machine guns into the box. EDIT: and how to know that will kill her in any reasonble time she's big as a house.
and that's assuming you don't get insta killed by what ever magical wards the cave has (and which are bypassed by having the Drakefire ammulet with you) or her servants.

You only need to complete 1 of the 4 objectives.Lord Revan wrote:That's assuming assuming Ony won't notice and flash fry you first (she's got a flamebreath after all) and that's just 1/4 of the objectives done

Machine gun fire is quicker than inhaling and blowing out fire. I'm not aiming for zero deaths of my men (though that would be nice.) She's not going to be able to kill 50 peeps armed with modern military tech in one breath.
I doubt a dragon can stand up to bazooka and machine gun fire. She's not nearly "as big as a house" as you suggest. Remember, she's not a ?? elite, she's just a dragon in this scenario.
I thought the Drakefire just got you into the cave? I don't know the actual lore behind this.
The bigger problem with my scenario is: Are my peeps trained with the weapons and/or can they fire them even untrained?
Do my men get to train before entering Azeroth?
