Its WOTC who IIRC came up with the whole 12 klick long SSD in their RPG as a comprimise between the 8 klick WEG length and the 19 klick movie length....

So you can ignore it...not that I can find anything about it on this link you sent..

It says "prototype - not final version". So there was a X craft battlecruiser proof-of-concept around 12 km, and the 19 km Executor was one of the refined products to come out of the test runs.

This is how you solve a stupid retcon, make it into another type of ship! :D

Haven't done more than skim the article, but does it say it's the biggest ship yet or just that it's a big ship?

Yes, another Byzantine style retcon. The tendrils keep flowing, and sooner or later, it will even look more complex than a Quarren's tentacles, or the super redundancy of a Sarlaac's stomach.

And I learn of something worse on the last page.

What, the Alliance knew of Byss as far back as then?

The article says, the Deep Core.
Lady Alya’s allies in the Deep Core track Draco to the planet Byss, where the Sarlacc Project is under construction. The time has come to strike—if the Super Star Destroyer prototype isn’t destroyed now, it will soon be fully armed and operational. Lady Alya and Senator Organa have hatched a plan to destroy the prototype, and the heroes will lead the attack. While the noblewoman’s fleet of smugglers and pirates draw the Imperial defenses away from the prototype, the heroes board a defensive space station and seize control of it. They deactivate the station’s weapons, which allows a small strike force of starfighters to make a microjump close to the prototype ship.

Yeah, I thought they were both there. I was wrong. Looks like Sarli fucked it all up again.

From my quick overview the article where Byss is mentioned was written by this Thompson-fellow.

Starfighters can make a microjump?

Except since his involvement in Jedi Counseling, he's been put in charge of all things Saga, this WAS done under his watch.

Why wouldn't they be able to? are they equipped with a different drive design?

The Rebels knowing of Byss' existence was established at least as far back as the Byss and the Deep Core articles in 2005. And Byss' colonization was mentioned in Reversal of Fortune which was made about the same time.

The group attacking the prototype in this adventure were apparently sponsored by an Alderaanian noble. Since many noble families were asked to move to Byss by Palpatine, it's not surprising if some who either declined or were invited, happened to spread the news of its location. Or that the high societies in general had enough info on it, while the common masses were relatively ignorant of it.

This doesn't fit with the Byss-description from the DESB. It also doesn't fit with Palpatine sitting there for five years after BoE and assembling large forces for a galaxy-wide Blitz.

In other words this sucks.

BIG.

And Palpatine invited (the surviving) Alderaanians to Byss AFTER ANH. This article dates from the early years of the empire.

I'm talking of the offer given to nobles and rich people in general right after the colonization of Byss began, about 18.5 BBY.

Just because you were invited to Byss doesn't mean the people who were smart/lucky enough to decline knew about the location of the planet. Otherwise the heavy censorship of the communication made by those who moved to Byss wouldn't make much sense.

Hmmm, then why even mention its colonization on Coruscant news networks?

Gah, this is too stupid. They can't have their cake and eat it too, either the planet stays mysterious and unapproachable, or its location was known.

Not least, the whole premise of finding where all the Imperial goods are going to in the Deep Core in DE1 is all .... non existent.

I think it's a rather good retcon. It has precedence in the DS and the ISD, plus it sets a precedence for the 8 km version, assuming someone still believes in that. Most likely there won't be any mention of that one in the future.

The Byss thing... well, I haven't played EAW:FOC yet, so no comment.

What precedence for the 8 km version?

The concept of treating the 12km ship as a prototype is good. However, the fact they treat it as some sort of unprecedented superweapon is bad. What, have they lost all the Mandator and Mandator-II's that were left over from the Clone Wars? Those things are exector grade in mass and power, as I remember. They'd probably be as large if not larger.

Edit: Never mind we saw Exector-like starships as far back as the TPM era in the comics.

I just said it at TF.net: By now LFL and DelRey should be able to publish an Essential Guide to Imperial Superweapons and Secret projects or "Imperial One-Hit-Wonders of Doom" for short.

I'm saying that if someone insists that there's an 8 km version (as I've noticed a few people doing), we have precedence to say that if there ever was one, it must have been a prototype. Especially taken together with other evidence that the retcon covers all "SSDs".

As for the Mandators... well, don't expect too much from WOTC.
