Neo vs Lain
I finished watching "Serial Experiments Lain" today, and this versus thread came to me rather quickly.
On the one hand, we have Neo, the One, capable of manipulating the Matrix to his will.
On the other hand, we have Lain, who can manipulate the Wired in much the same way.
For the sake of the hypothetical situation, the Matrix and the Wired become merged somehow. Neo senses a new power looming, and somehow goes to Tokyo, where he runs into Lain. Lain has also sensed Neo, and knows that he is the only real threat to her in the Wired/Matrix.
So, who bites the bits?

You should've included other in the poll.
I would have voted for either Case, Flatline, or Louis Tynan as they are all other cyberpunk novel characters who can do serious damage. Read the original cyberpunk book Neuromancer to find out about case and flatline, or read Mother of Storms to find out about Louis Tynan.

Re: Neo vs Lain
Nope, Tachibana manipilates the Wired. Lain doesn't need the Wired, Lain manipulated reality. Neo is God inside the Matrix, Lain is God in the Real World.DPDarkPrimus wrote:On the other hand, we have Lain, who can manipulate the Wired in much the same way.
Lain curbstomps the shit out of Neo.
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

Lain can manipulate reality.
Neo can only manipulate a reality with a computer matrix.
Sorry how ever cool...he thinks he is...Neo is not much more than a small jelly donut.

Lain would figuratively snap her fingers, and the world is suddenly transformed into a peaceful paradise where humans and agents work together. That, or she snaps her finger snd writes Agent Smith out of the Matrix. If she could write Masami Eiri out of the Wired when he was a fundimantal part of the communication protocol and could manipulate reality, then Agent Smith suddenly becomes Telephone Repairmen Smith (she's done that too by the way, turn Secret Agents into Telephone Repairmen).

Well, that's what would happen. It's not in Lain's personality to actually engage in physical confrontations. The only two times she did that was when she was in "agressive mode". The first was when she just tossed a young boy around physically, the second she didn't waste time and just creshed Eri under a pile of computer equipment telekinetically. Either way, she didn't bother with anything flashy.
What she WOULD do in the context of The Matrix would be to smash all the Agents together into a ball via telekenisis, then drop half a mountain on it, thereby solving the Agent infestation. Was that what you were looking for?

Nah. In the context of the Matrix, she would simply re-write the Matrix, and leave out the whole "They conquered humans to use as batteries" thing.
Thus, the Agents never even existed.
