Christianity makes sense to me.

Post by Basic Model »

Just thought I'd say that.

I believe that God intervened in the history of mankind by coming to earth in the person of Jesus Christ, and the teachings of Jesus make sense to me. When I decided to allow God into my life, things changed.

Nice declaration of Faith, there.

If it wasn't for the fact that your obviously trolling, I'd have no problem with it.

As long as you don't go confusing belief with fact...

But, it's a pretty blatant attempt at trolling.

No, I'm not trolling.

I check out this forum every so often. And I wanted to express my opinion. While I am aware I'm in the minority here (understatement or what!), I wondered if my post would be allowed.

I respect people with other beliefs and values - and have many friends who are different to me.

I'm not saying 'I'm right; you're wrong' - I'm saying it works for me.

So what? I don't get what you're trying to state. None of us here "don't get" Christianity. In fact, the opposite is true. We get it all too well, and that's probably where the problem comes in.

Just because you comprehend something does not mean it is exonerated of all its flaws. Organised religion is tolerated, but that does not mean we don't have issues with it, even knowing close friends or relatives of faith.

In the deepest sense it is. You've posted, with an intent supported by a very perceptible dare, spelled out in clear words at the very end of your post.

If you've really been looking around this forum like you say, you'd know that it doesn't come up because the people here use a very scientific method in serious discussions.

Religion, being what it is, is a completely faith based discretion. As such, little true evidence exists in any form, which leads to very circular discussions.

Why do that when you have tar and rope? You know, make it epic and memorable. To the guy who wrote this, I have some questions. Why post this here, of all places to do it? What branch of Christianity do you ascribe to? Catholic or Protestant?

This is one of the most blatant flame baits I've ever seen. I don't doubt that this thread will remain, but enjoy getting called on what you claim.

Looks like a relatively useless post to me. I don't know if it's trolling or not but to me it looks like it's definitely spam.

I don't know if it's trolling or not, but it is immensly retarded. No one is going to remove his post, they're just going to flame him for being a douchebag. And it's not like we don't have plenty of Christians on the board, anyway. Many of whome are longtime respected members.

If you bothered to actually look around on the forums, we have a Christian user group on here as well as a number of Christian members. You seem to think that we actually hate religion, when the opposite is true. What we hate are people who take religious texts as absolute fact and are willing to lie, threaten, and ignore evidence so that they can keep their beliefs alive in their minds.

Of course Christianity makes sense to this person. He's obviously a child. An adult would try to justify his opinion rather than simply stating it and expecting anyone to give a shit.

To answer your question?

No, because in the end it is not a point of discussion and is nothing more then you wanting to get flamed by the board.

Off you go to testing.

Let's see if he actually tries to justify his opinion. If he doesn't even make the effort, then he's trolling. I'm not so sure that Testing is the best venue though; this is a good example of the way fundies think. They need to feel like they're being persecuted, so they try to provoke negative reactions in order to bolster this made-up persecution complex.

One, Chit...I believe everyone got what you were talking about.

And just to clarify, it's a PRIVATE FORUM. So a new person probably would not know of it's existence in the way beyond doing a detailed search. So using it as proof against his inane statement is rather pointless.

If christianity makes sense to you, chances are you're just ignoring how fucking absurd it is. Omniscient god makes humanity knowing precisely what will happen, then gets angry when it does and curses all of humanity for 4000 years when suddenly the great unchanging god changes its mind and becomes its own son to die to change a rule it made. Oh, but he didn't die, he's alive again, so any asserted "sacrifice" is pretty minimal. It's like if you sacrificed your car for the environment and then buy a new car that's the same. And he'll be back any day now. Time flies on 2000 years and now we can still hate gays for no reason! Whee!

I'm not a child, and I'm not a 'he'.

I'm actually the mother of adult children.

I'm sorry that you would find it unbelieveable that someone like me could genuinely be interested in your site. :(

I take an interest in all sorts of things, and all sorts of people, and suppose have been lucky to have been a member of lots of forums where a wide variety of viewpoints are welcome.

Apologies - it's clear now that this forum is designed for like-minded people; I didn't mean to cause trouble by posting. Just wanted to say my little bit. Wasn't setting out to anger or evangelise - I'm a legitimate member of this forum, and I wanted to know if my views would be tolerated here.

Oh - someone asked if I had a Catholic or Protestant faith/background. Well, for me, 'religion' isn't a great thing, really. Therefore, what I want to champion is Jesus Christ, and his teachings, which are laid out in the New Testament of the Bible, which is common to all Christian denominations. But just for the record, I've been around, on both sides of that particular Catholic/Protestant/Conservative/Liberal divide. There's good (and yes, lots of bad) in all traditions - but the bottom line is the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Kind regards.

Are we supposed to somehow be psychic and know who's female automatically with such an incredibly generic username. . . .how?

There's a number of Christian users. The difference is that most of them don't start attempting to claim their religion "makes sense" without bothering to provide actual proof that it's somehow better than non-religious systems.

I'm not at all offended that anyone would think I'm a male! :P

I only mention my gender because people had referred to me as 'he'.

Oh - I don't hate gays. Might be a cliché to say it, but honestly 'some of my best friends' etc...

It's sad. While I do not have Mike's encounters, but I have over my few year gotten more then enough that I have seen literally this nonsense. When asked to explain beyond dogma why you believe such things...you get the answer of "Because I do.". Fuck, trying to justify the pointless statement of "I believe in God!". Fine. That's not discussing anything. That is making a statement which is on the same level as me making a topic going "The sky is green."

Then we go to the classic "I am such-such." be it a parent, someone who's been in a war, or some such nonsense that does nothing to explain the point you want to see. Simply just regurgitating the same thing that my friend's pet parrot could do.

So are you going to make a discussion or are you going to act as if you are the sainted martyr entering the devil's land to fight the great Satan?
