Columbus Day

Post by MKSheppard »

I'm more concerned that there's a postal holiday today  than the actual holiday itself. LOL

It's a Federal holiday, so I've got a nice four-day weekend complete with a pass --- sweet.

Nobody around here gets Colombus day off. It's got nothing to do with the placement of the Mason-Dixon line. School districts get to decide what holidays they take off.

Schools get the day off around here, but the market's still open and I'm at work. Quite frankly I don't see why we should be celebrating Christopher Columbus.

I'm annoyed that I can't pick up the game waiting for me at the post office until Tuesday thanks to that fucking holiday.

In California, it actually varies district-to-district, and even by school. I never got Colombus day off after 7th grade.

Quick question regarding Colombus: how did he treat the natives? Was he a conquerer or an explorer?

He never so much as touched American soil but where he did land, he was a little of both, although he never did stay very long.

It's a bit of a shame that he died not knowing that he never touched India.

I believe he was one of the typical conquering explorers of the time.

In all my years of elementary, high school, college and graduate levels of education, I don't remember ever getting Columbus Day off.

Columbus' 1492 voyage was the first significant step towards achieving the global community we live in today.

I don't think anyone actually celebrates Columbus day... Aside from some schools having their history lessons about the man centered around the day in the lesser grades.

To most, it's either a day off or a collection of mediocre sales.

Hey EP, you're just jealous that I've had this weekend as a long weekend every year since Kindergarten, even into University, while you've had to bitch and moan about not getting it off.

So :P

Also, well put, Patrick.
