The Kingdom of Evil Kanada
"Durg est Grud"

UN Category: Iron Fist Consumerists
Civil Rights: Rare
Economy: Good
Political Freedoms: Outlawed

Location: SDnet

The Kingdom of Evil Kanada is a small, safe nation, remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 14 million are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The small, corrupt, moralistic government concentrates mainly on Defence, although Law & Order and Healthcare are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 12%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Arms Manufacturing, and Cheese Exports industries.

The alarmingly racist TV show 'Bigtopians Say the Darndest Things' is a hit, military spending is on the increase, military spending recently hit a new high, and marijuana is legal in the privacy of your own home. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force. Evil Kanada's national animal is the mutant beaver, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the dollar.

I'm getting VERY EVIL
Go, tell the Spartans, stranger passing by,

The Democratic States of ArmorPierce is a small, safe nation, renowned for its burgeoning grizzly bear population. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 14 million love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Social Welfare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 31%, but much higher for the wealthy. A healthy private sector is led by the Beef-Based Agriculture industry, followed by Retail and Cheese Exports.

Political parties are banned from advertising and receiving private donations, there are no minimum wage laws, high-income earners pay a 100% tax rate, and grizzly bears are considered a delicacy. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. ArmorPierce's national animal is the grizzly bear, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the ap.

The Issue
Dorothy Terwilliger lies immobilized in a hospital bed, unable to move. She has end-stage cancer, and wishes to end her struggle against death. However, laws prevent her doctors from obeying her wishes.

The Debate
Dorothy and her family are campaigning for a "Dying with Dignity" bill, to change this situation. She implores the government to legalize euthanasia.

"I understand this is a very difficult time for these people," says freelance medical writer Thomas McGuffin. "But the solution is not to let our medical system slide down the slippery slope of killing people in pain. We must cure, not kill. This is not the right time for euthanasia."

"I agree, but go further: there is never a right time for euthanasia," says Bishop Beth Christmas. "The lives we lead are given to us by the grace of God, and he decides when they end. It is not for us to question God's divine purpose, no matter how odd or screwed-up it may seem."
[Accept]

Would there be any negative affects to introducing euthanasia?

Legalizing euthanasia will increase your civil rights rating slightly while making your country more "secular" (i.e., more likely to be described as "discouraging religion" or "avowedly atheist").

Well, I just jumped in and joined the game: The Holy Empire of Valorian.

The Holy Empire of Valorian is a tiny, devout nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 5 million are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

The large, moralistic government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Social Welfare. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 22%. A robust private sector is led by the Beef-Based Agriculture, Furniture Restoration, and Basket Weaving industries.

Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Valorian's national animal is the falcon and its currency is the guilder.

This sounds like it will be fun

What my nation was.....
The Empire of Eizen

"Our Destiny Is Clear"

UN Category: Psychotic Dictatorship

Civil Rights: Rare
Economy: Imploded
Political Freedoms: Outlawed

Location: the South Pacific

The Empire of Eizen is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its strong anti-business politics. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 5 million are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Social Welfare. The average income tax rate is 59%, and even higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Retail.

Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Eizen's national animal is the falcon, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the eizen dollar.
....and what it has become!

The Empire of Eizen

"Our Destiny Is Clear"

UN Category: Corporate Police State

Civil Rights: Some
Economy: Very Strong
Political Freedoms: Outlawed

Location: SDnet

The Empire of Eizen is a small, economically powerful nation, renowned for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, hard- working, cynical population of 16 million are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 57%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Gambling.

High-income earners pay a 100% tax rate, college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys, military spending is on the increase, and scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Eizen's national animal is the Rancor, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the imperial credit.

The politics of this game are really biased. I offered no protection to striking workers and my country suddenly became a compulsory consumerist state with no political or civil rights :x

The game does seem to have some built in biases but the FAQ admits so.
I allowed some mining and all of a sudden national animal is endangered. It seems the creator buys into the idea that ALL mining is dangerous and unneeded. Of course she/he never probably asks where the metal in his/her car came from.

Anyhoo, so far it is a kinda fun. My people are a Capitalist Paradise.

It's funny because I now have the most contradictory nation on Earth. I am a compulsory consumerist state reknowned for strong anti-business politics and private enterprise is illegal.

The Empire of Vasey is a large, economically powerful nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 20 million are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

The large, corrupt, pro-business government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Social Equality. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 12%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Automobile Manufacturing.

Nudity is frowned upon, college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys, euthanasia is legal, and military spending recently hit a new high. Crime is a serious problem. Vasey's national animal is the lion, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the groat.

It's not that bad really. I preferred my 'big brother knows best dictatorship' as a government type though. My rapidly growing military is the best bit  Wish I could actually use it.

Eizen Decides:

Budget Time: Accountants Excited

Government Acts

The Issue

It's time for the government to allocate spending for the coming year, and as always, special interest groups are keen to have their say.

"We won't have a future unless we improve police numbers and rebuild the military," says General Bill McGuffin. "Oh, it's all well and good to have your fancy education and your nice cars, until some tinpot dictatorship decides to invade. And don't pretend like there aren't any of them in SDnet. Our number one priority has to be security."

This is the position your government is preparing to adopt.

I haveto agree with the General on this one heheh, aren't we all just a bunch of tinpot dictators?

This message originally posted in the SDnet regional forum
The Eizen Empire would be happy to loan out our elite Anti-ALF task force. The ALF has been effectively eliminated in our territory thanks to our stormtroopers and A.I. hunting mechanisms.

The cOmmonwealth of Tarbonesis though, is beginning to foster unfreindly sentiment in the region. Spouting UN propoganda and engaging in verbal debate with non UN neighbors is not wise. If you truly believe in the rights of nations then you wouldn't mind staying out of the affairs of independent nations such as the COnfederacy and the Eizen Empire.

In order to Band against the encroaching United Nations the Eizen Empire will be establishing a new mutual defense organization. the Defense Alliance Representing Collective SDnet Imperial Delgates or "Darkside" will consist of any SDnet nation that wishes to join. All nations will become equal partners upon joining. However "Darkside" will not be an enforcement agency or put restrictions on any nation. It will mmerely provide two things. A forum concerning regional affairs, and a mutual defense against foriegn aggression.
I thought the anagram was good anyway :D

It's mostly RPing, though you can choose to increase military budgets and mine uranium.

Oh yeah, and the game is biased. It is so black and white with no gray area a lot of the times. After I decided to limit the amount of money companies could donate to parties/ politicians, my economy dropped by like four spots and became socialist . My economy has since mostly recovered and I'm back to New York Times Democracy.
