Your Own EU Ideas

Oh yeah...more focus on naval military sci-fi for the Clone Wars, Humbarine's destruction, Alderaan being fucked by Grievous, etc. A detailed larger Space battle of Geonosis. Wars between the Confederate Remnants and the Galactic Empire, more Confederates-Rebels assistance with each other, more literature on the massive Outer Rim sieges, more Confederates="good guys" assisting popular insurrections on worlds against the Republic, Republic atrocities in the CW, something on Confederate and Republii Core Worlds, include those massive ships, Rebels using Old Republic warships and stolen Imperial Star Destroyers of various types, for the post-Endor again more focus on the battles when they happened in the GCW, some of the chaos post-Endor, the 3-way brawl after Zsinj died, novels on the Imperial Civil War after Coruscant fell to the Empire, again naval battles explaining how Thrawn then the Imperial Coutnil drove the NR from worlds; Palpatine's Shadow Hand and the massive fleets thrown at the NR, for the Deep Core warlords increase their sizes; it seems bad that all those ships were destroyed in a few months, less Byss casualties mentioned, info on Orinda, less IR casualties when they were pushed back after The Almania Incident, increase the IR's size in Hand of Thrawn

If I were an EU writer, I would probably want to focus on telling stories of the faceless Jedi that ended up getting killed in all of the various wars. And I mean killed. Not talking about those lame "I survived the Great Purge, just like apparently half the Order" Jedi. When Order 66 comes, my character would get it. Blaster shot, point blank range, right in the temple. When I cover the Mandalorian Wars, the main character gets utterly crushed at Malachor. They would die in very un-retconnable ways. No ambiguous fall-off-a-cliff deaths.
Despite the level of high technology in the Star Wars universe, I feel that it wasn't explored enough. Granted, there have apparently been refinements of tech done for the past millennia or three, but nothing truly overt. From what I've read and heard about the EU, this is even more apparent. I'd love to see a story where some breakthrough innovation begins to cause massive changes to occur throughout all the civilizations of the galaxy, and not just for war.
However, I don't think that the Force has been explored as much as it should have been, either. Force telekinesis alone looks like it could be refined into a true martial art of sorts. I'd like to see "colleges" of Force-users testing and refining the limits of what can be done reproducibly, while still holding onto the mysticism of it. (And for the record, while the "midichlorians" thing was an obvious run with some scifi about mitochondria in recent times, it really did make the Force seem almost reduced to a eugenics type of thing to me.)

No no, you can clearly see people get shot, and even so, somebody will figure out a way to bring them back kicking and screaming from the dead.Civil War Man wrote:If I were an EU writer, I would probably want to focus on telling stories of the faceless Jedi that ended up getting killed in all of the various wars. Hell, look what they did to Maul.

Well, they did clone Maul, if I recall. Plus it involved his body falling out of sight.Ryan Thunder wrote:No no, you can clearly see people get shot, and even so, somebody will figure out a way to bring them back kicking and screaming from the dead.Civil War Man wrote:If I were an EU writer, I would probably want to focus on telling stories of the faceless Jedi that ended up getting killed in all of the various wars. If all else fails, the Jedi gets shot, decapitated, and all the parts thrown in an incinerator. Even the brain matter that fell out the blaster wound.
Another thing I'd want to do is have some more Sith Lords with actual human qualities. None of that silly cartoonish villain shit. They won't stand around cackling and doing evil because they are dicks. I'd write Sith Lords more like Tyranus or Vader, where they did what they did because they actually believed it was the right thing to do.

This author has actually written a fair number of stories (found here) set in the existing EU. Some of the most recurring features are a focus on political and state machinery as such, the lack of rebel characters, the dangers of Imperial intrigues, and focus on obscure characters and parts of space not seen in the films. This author has created entire Sectors with their own histories (including home-grown insurgencies and Separatist movements) with virtually no interaction with the main sequence stories.
One must remember that with the enormity of the Galactic Empire, it is possible to have huge stories that can span hundreds of planets and extremely powerful antagonists without coming close to being important on the pan-galactic scale. That is a major shortcoming of official and fan fiction: the desire to make every story into a galaxy-threatening crisis. The sheer scale of galactic civilization means that only a very few beings will ever have a direct impact on galacticopolitics. As they say, not everyone grows up to be an astronaut.

The ysalamiri thread reminds me of another character I brainstormed a while back. Basically the guy was a healer, real brainy, and tended to rub people the wrong way (so think House, only replace his limp with a lightsaber). He was pretty unconventional for a Jedi, since he reinforced his Force healing abilities with actual medical knowledge, wore armor when in dangerous situations, and otherwise showed a complete lack of trust in the wisdom of the Force. Didn't get very far, but I was going to take it on the line of him actually resenting being Force sensitive.
One of his quirks is that he bred ysalamiri, and kept a couple as pets. Part of it was experimentation to determine how they were able to cancel out Force abilities, and part of it was because he was fascinated with feeling a complete absence of the Force.

My first fanfic idea, when I was seven, involved the empire training Groxes from Endor as storm troopers, complete with giant suits of armor.

Nothing on the SW Wiki, although I note that Grox are a type of (semi-) domesticated reptile in 40K used as a food source ...Molyneux wrote:What the heck is a Grox?

I kid, sort of - I saw some kind of movie-ish thing set in Endor with two crash-landed kids when I was younger; I had borrowed a set of VHSs and such from a friend due to the two-week-long flu I had, though, and later thought I'd imagined/hallucinated it until I saw a reference to it years later.
