History Channel

Post by jegs2 »

A crew from the History Channel is with us today, filming our MDMP. Don't know when it will air, but when it does, you'll see the "Digital TOC" in action in the SBCT (Stryker Brigade Combat Team). I briefed the enemy portion of mission analysis, so you might see me (gee, how exciting). Again, don't know when it'll air, but you History Channel buffs can keep a look-out for us ...

Hmmm, best to make up your own mind. Digitization is going ahead. Can't discuss that too much, because it's considered Sensitive information. This should give some insight on the Stryker combat vehicle:

WTF???

When in the hell did they pull that one? There's been many a time when, on reflection, that I am happy a brick wasn't handy while watching "The Great Ships", but this one I missed.

On another note, they could also be called "The Christian apologist Channel"

To bad I won't be able to see it. I don't get the history channel since I moved to where I am now.

I like the History channel, but then again I watch it for the history, not the technology. Though I do enjoy Modern Marvels and Hands-on History.

Shit happens on TV.

It was on there PH special some time ago, and it was suppost to be an expert on the subject speaking. The history channel is okay if you already know a fair deal about what the show is on. Worthless if its all new to you since you can spot the trade mark one fucking big mistake that changes everything per episiod.

Turning the sound down and just enjoying the historical footage works, BTW. :D

I haven't had a chance to see more than one episode of Conquest, though I like the guy who does the show (I saw his feature on Masada when they did the History International previews).

Stupid fuckup just now on their "US Weapons Aginst Iraq" shows. They bring up the Abrams as Americas best tank, while showing AMX-30's and VAB's, then M2's. Then there's a very quickly shot of actual M1's in the distance parked and then its back to the moving AMX's close ups.

I also love the "Why can't we kill Saddam" program, while talking about LGB's they show AIM-120's being carried and launched.

With the thousands of hours of footage around can't they fucking get the right shit for the right weapons? Its not like there are no cool shots of actual M1's moving or bombs being dropped. They also had to repeat, "laser guided missiles" about ten times. The only laser guided missile in American service in the gulf was a Maverick Variant and it only saw limited action with the USN in Kuwait. It was in no way a "specialized bunker buster"

This is not rocket science, not minor shit. Any halfway decent advisor could selected the right footage. They just don’t care.

Im watching the same shows this evening of course on PST time for they are not over yet.

They said the F-117's were first used in combat in Iraq, when in reality they were used in Panama even if in a limited way.

The also mixed clips for the first gulf war with clips of current training. They showed A-7's which are no longer around.

--- edit

I just saw the tank clip. That was pretty bad.

I believe that other than maybe a few Air National Gaurd groups no one was using A-7s after the Gulf War. There was at least one squadron of A-7s on the JFK during the Gulf War but shortly after that they should have switched to Hornets.

They showed Navy A-7's which were replaced by the Hornets by 1992. I dunno when they left ANG service but it was not too much later.

I makes you feel old when you can remember an aircraft that is no longer in service. :) When I was a little kid, I remember seeing ANG A-37's and F-106's at an airshow.

I'm 19, and I've seen (and love the looks of) F-86 Sabres. My favorite warbird (which I haven't seen live) is the P-38 Lightning. I remember hearing about the use of A-7s, and my friends and I still grumble about the F/A-18. The Cobra lost to the Viper, so of course the Air Force takes the YF-16 Viper, and the YF-17 gets redesigned and given to the Navy. Crappy airplane, IMHO.
