I just discovered the biggest bomb
The biggest barring sheer fan-wank like Spacebattles' OBS.
It turns out that the Lunarians from the Touhou series (I've been spamming Testing with various pics from that series) have an small-sized planck bomb. Isn't that supposed to be a bomb that can destroy the entire universe and recreate it anew?
Are there things with a bigger boom than that?

The Metabarons series has a 3U bomb, a bomb that can kill 3 universes. And has universe-destroying nanobombs as well.

Sounds (exactly) like a weaponised version of the nullifier experiment that generated the cascade vacuum decay in Schild's Ladder (by Greg Egan). Of course the protagonists of that novel go on to develop far more subtle, flexible and in some ways more powerful applications of reality-hacking-femtotech.OmegaGuy wrote:In Stephen Baxter's Manifold: Time there was a Vacuum Decay Inducer bomb, which could create a vacuum metastability event and wipe out not just the universe, but a huge number (at least thousands) of other universes, and change their physics

Well, there is the Glass clock of Bad Schiburgen (Or something like that), or of a certain Clockson.
Not bad when you need to shut down one reality (and possibly it's attached dimensions, universes) and need to keep Death, the Gods and other Entities from interfering. (While stopping time for everyone not prepared as well).
It apparently only spreads at C, although which C isn't explained. (Magic changes the local speed of light in the Discworld-verse)

I recall a short story where a particle accelerator experiment proved the truth of the Many Worlds interpetation of quantum mechanics and that we live in a false vacuum, at the same time. You see, every time it was turned on, every single one of the innumerable possible timelines where it worked were destroyed as it destabilized the false vacuum. They only figured this out because no matter what they did or how often they tried, the operaters of the machine couldn't get it to work. It turned out this was because only the universes where something went wrong, no matter how unlikely, were the universes that survived. So they destroyed an unknown but astronomically high number of universes, without realizing it until afterwards.

Some of this stuff sounds really crazy.
I must read it!

Glass Clock of Bad Schüschein. It is a nice loophole to get around divine/transmortal involvement, but I think it only kills that one universe - though in a fairly unique way.DEATH wrote:Well, there is the Glass clock of Bad Schiburgen (Or something like that), or of a certain Clockson.

And the speed of light on the Discworld itself is roughly 600 miles per hour (slower than the Discworld's sun itself moves), due to the high magical field; presumably, the effect would either conform to the local speed of light (increasing as the effect propagates beyond A'tuin), or would simply move at the fastest speed of light to begin with.
I'm actually rereading that book right now...

Didn't Spiderman did a gig about such a bomb too once?OmegaGuy wrote:In Stephen Baxter's Manifold: Time there was a Vacuum Decay Inducer bomb, which could create a vacuum metastability event and wipe out not just the universe, but a huge number (at least thousands) of other universes, and change their physics

It's possible, but attached "parasitic" dimensions were arguably affected as well, and when you consider things like those and attached dimensions (Such as the Dungeon Dimensions) then if it did affect the Disc universe then it took down a lot more in the bargain (Kill the host, kill it's leeches).Molyneux wrote:Glass Clock of Bad Schüschein. And that's assuming that the effect only took down that single universe as abase.
The Magical field changes and is native to the Discworld specifically, so there's no reason why the effect shouldn't speed up. (The Auditors talked about it affecting the entire universe, and an effect going at less than C wouldn't be able to spread faster than the expansion of the Universe for a good few billion years).
Always a good ideaI'm actually rereading that book right now...
