Favorite Regimental Song?
What's your favorite military regimental song (or any other specifically military tune, including cadences)?
I'm partial to Men of Harlech, used by the Royal Welsh Guards in the UK, and the Royal Canadian Hussars (although I don't know if either of those units still exist, what with shrinking manpower budgets...)
My favorite version is the John Barry's arrangement from Zulu although the lyrics used in the film are inauthentic.

Re: Favorite Regimental Song?
If your referring to the 8th Canadian Hussars, they still exist as a Reserve formation. Their an armor unit.Kanastrous wrote:What's your favorite military regimental song (or any other specifically military tune, including cadences)?

I've always been partial to Scotland the Brave.

The US 7th Cavalry's Gary Owen (I know its an English song) is cool. I also like the WWII German panzer march Panzerlied.

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

So Wellington, he scratched 'is bum,
Said Boney, lad, thee's had thee's fun,
My riflemen will win the day,
Over The hills and far away.
I sing this when I go hiking.

The Aggie War Hymn, of course.
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Here's to the Maiden, the regimental march of the King's Regiment (Liverpool).

You know, me and Brungardt discussed the various service songs last night. I came to the conclusion that the Army has the lamest one.Brother-Captain Gaius wrote:"The Army Goes Rolling Along." Link
I've always liked "Blood on the Risers" because it is rather amusing. "Anchors Aweigh" gets points just for the alcohol reference, if you choose to count it as a military song.
I do like the Navy Hymn best of all though. Just something about it, I dunno...

dammit this is not fair, (than again what is fair in war)
there's so many good ones to choose from, even more if you include revolution/outlaw ballads.
hmm, do age of sail chanteys about cannonballs, and blowing away masts count?
because if they do? "Coasts of High Bar-baree" is a most kick ass naval tune.

The scariest folk song lyrics are "My Boy Grew up to be just like me" from cats in the cradle by Harry Chapin
This sucks...this sucks, because there's so many of these songs I like, but nobody here would know them
But, what the hell, two of my favorites:
"Karpacka Brygada" (The Mountain Brigade) - very melancholic, written by a soldier of the 1st Independent Mountain Brigade during their operations in North Africa.
"Szturmówka" (The Assaulter's Song) - happy and upbeat. In fact, I'll try to translate it as best I can
Hey, the road is messed with rain
Mud and blowing wind as well
But what does it mean to an infantryman,
To even meet the Devil himself!
chor.
Because for our assault company
There are no obstacles and no bad roads
And if anyone stands in our way
Throw 'im a grenade - send him away!
At an outpost near Tobruk
More than such a light breeze blew
Under rain of shells and bullets
Polish soldier held the line!
chor.
Because for our assault company
There are no obstacles and no bad roads
And if anyone stands in our way
Throw 'im a grenade - send him away!
Or something like that. I like to hum this while I walk
