Indeed. I'm sure some fans of oBSG were happy to see those old-style Cylon ships duking it out.

The third flashback also really sold me on the actor they got playing young Adama. They did some good casting there.

Yes, very much so. I wasn't really sure if Razor was going to feature old-style base stars in addition to the raiders, so really was a pleasant surprise.

All we need now are the old centurions to talk and maybe a few gold commander units, and they'll have the war down perfect. :)

Hm, did I miss something? I haven't seen old-style base stars in those flashbacks...

Flashback 3 was suitably badass.
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Oh and I would like to say to all those who claimed Galactica had armor plating over its 'ribs' when it was a fully commissioned Colonial Warship....

"Oh my gods, Columbia's gone!"

Haven't seen a colonial capship go down on screen since banzai Pegasus. Old school basestar = instant hit with me :D

The old school Cylon ships only make me yearn for a new series set during that era.

Agreed, but not some damn sci-fi soap opera. As it is, isn't Caprica on hold for now? ::mixed feelings::
I wish to propose for the reader's favorable consideration a doctrine which may, I fear, appear wildly paradoxical and subversive. The doctrine in question is this: that it is undesirable to believe a proposition when there is no ground whatever for supposing it true. I must, of course, admit that if such an opinion became common it would completely transform our social life and our political system; since both are at present faultless, this must weigh against it.

Well, BS Columbia had more extensive armor plating than Galactica, even if some ribs were still showing :P

The screams when the Colombia went down were very harrowing and, perversely, quite cool.

The design actually hold up pretty well. No stupid pointy bits sticking out. The compact form of them looks a lot more functional. The Raiders I'm on the fence about...there is something sleek about the new one, but the old one is cool in it's own right.

It also seems the Cylons, even during the first war had to resort to "Gang the Fuck up on the Battlestar" as a tactic.

I think this flashback only demonstrates that the old-school Cylon designs didn't need updating. I literally had a geekgasm when I saw them in action. Can't wait to see how they handle the old Centurions.

Explosive rounds. lots and lots of explosive rounds. Oh, yeah, and Tigh said he fought them hand-to-hand on Brenik at one point.

I think the design of those things means that it's going to look cheesy no matter how they're realized.

I concur.

It looks like the old designs work just fine stylistically. So why do we only get two-minute bits? It's not fair...
