Super Sci-Fi Fighting Game

Ok. This is a little odd request...but I'm going to do it.

I believe many of you have played or at least heard of such games as "Marvel vs. Capcom" and "Super Smash Bros." ect.

Imagine, if you will, taking the great sci-fi/fantasy genre shows/movies/etc and putting them in a fighting game/crossover scenario.

The Key Difference woudl be that each 'Fandom Group' would have a different style of fighting than the other groups. they would have different special meters and their bars would act differently as well.

I turn to many of you for some entries, because I'm not well versed in many fandoms.

I'll post examples of entries in a short while.

If you want to try your hand at some here are the basic requirements:

1. Special meter system(s)
2. Basic attributes of this groups
3. 5 unlocked combatants and 5 'special' combatants minimum.
4. Try to keep the combat system balanced IE: for every plus beyond the norm, have a drawback.

If you REALLY want to get into this, try and devise some special attacks for certain characters.

And One More Thing...

Have a "Knock Out" or "Kill" move listed for some characters if you do list some moves. one of the universals is that you can beat on an opponent forever until you do a "KO" move or a "Kill" Move. prevent some of the Brain-Bugs of Fighting games that piss me off.

What kind would those be? You know, that having special KO or Killing moves would solve.

The Imperium of Man (from WH40K)

Standard Characters -

Cadian Guardsman (see my avatar): Basic grunt, moderately fast attacks but not as powerful. Melee attacks use boots, rifle butt and bayonet. Standard range attack is a lasgun shot (fairly weak). Special moves: Has an "energy bar" which slowly regenerates, has a more powerful lasgun shot that uses up this energy; A burst of lasgun fire that also uses up energy; a roundhouse kick; Fire Support, uses all energy but calls in artillery at opponents position :twisted: .

(1-10) (25 total points)
Speed: Above Average (6)
Attack Speed: Fast (7)
Attack Strength: Average (5)
Toughness: Below Average (4)
Jump Height: Low (3)

Finishing move: CHARGE!!! 10 duplicates rush on screen from all directions and shred opponet with lasgun fire.

Catachan Guardsman: Similar to the Cadian, but slower and more powerful. Uses a flamer instead of a lasgun (short range, but constant effect). Melee attacks are heavy punches, kicks, and knife swings. Special Attacks: Energy bar similar to Cadian's but drains faster and recharges faster. Incinerate; takes all energy but blasts everything around and above him with searing flames; Eviscerate; guts opponent with knife; Plasma bomb; places a bomb on the ground which detonates when touched; Ambush, disappears for 5 seconds then reappears near enemy.

Finishing move: Trophy; Decapitates opponent and sticks head on spike.

Ultramarine: Tough 'n' strong. No ranged weapons for sake of game mechanics. Melee attacks include punching, shredding things with hands, and combat knife. Special attacks: Drop pod, the Marine disappears and blasts down from the sky on top of his opponent; Regenerate, the Marine meditates for a few seconds and regains some health; Faith Shield, Marine attacks slower but takes less damage from attacks for a few seconds; Righteous Purge, the Marine blasts an opponent next to him with energy.

Speed: Average (5)
Attack Speed: Above Average (6)
Attack Strength: Very Strong (8)
Toughness: Tough (7)
Jump Height: Below Average (4)

Finishing Move:Emperor's Light, the opponent is annihilated in a heavenly beam of energy.

Ikari Shinji

Normal attacks: whine and whine and whine, cry, sit down and pounder about life. Those attacks have infinite reach but does no interupts.

Power meter goes up when attacked, blocked or not
A scream attack can be used by using a part of the power meter
At full power meter, there are two possible attacks. One is LCLization where the match ends in a draw, and the other is philosophical musing that does much damage to the oppnenet, and is undodgable and unblockable, leading to them covering their face and crying on the floor. A secret full power attack involves Eva01 going berzerk and insta kill the opponenet, but the command is (in soul caliber format) 123123123123123123123123123.

To finish off the normal characters:

Black Templar: Faster and more effective than the Ultramarine in melee. The BT is something of an unorthodox character design; he doesn't have any Special Attacks per se. Instead he has a "Rage Meter", every time he gets hit, his Rage increases depending on how much damage was done. The higher the Rage is, the more damage he does and the faster he attacks. Depending on how actual game mechanics may work, if they're like Marvel vs. Capcom with the tag team style play then if the BT is ever defeated his partner changes to another BT who starts with a maxed-out Rage Meter. If the game plays more like Smash Bros., then the BT respawns with a full Meter.

Finishing move: Hurricane, whips out a bolter and shreds opponent.

Imperial Commissar: Armed with a Power Sword and a bolt pistol. Has an "Ammo meter" similar to the Guardsmen's meters. Power sword is vicious in melee, but slower than fists and knives. Special Attacks: Cleave, powerful melee attack; Precise Shot, slower but more powerful bolt pistol attack; Inspire Fear, uses Ammo Meter to generate an aura which slows down enemy attacks; Steadfast, forms defensive stance in which he cannot move but takes significantly less damage.

Attack Strength: Very Strong (8 )

Finishing Move: Summary Execution, the Commissar finds the opponent lacking and executes him.

So instead you have moves that should produce a KO, but never do?

Doesn't that just make an extreme variation of Soul Calibur Syndrome, where Characters get up from a move that should've killed them IRL. It also means that unless a player knows the move, they can't win. Not exactly good for beginners to play.

Why not make Tap hits like the hits in Auto-Combo supers: They still do damage, but can't take off that last tic of life? Why force players to win in only one way? Why punish all the rest of the moves for the shortcomings of what amounts to about six moves out of twenty+? Who do you think you are, God? :twisted:

'cause this is what you're basically this:

Take Ryu.

Now make it so that the only way he can KO his opponent is with the Shin Shoryuken. So all, say, Sakura has to do is make sure he can't pull the Shin Shoryuken off on her, and he can never beat her in the match. As long as you keep him at a distance, you can't lose to him.

Unless that move was, like, perfect. Could hit you from almost any direction, and had good range. Then come the cries of "CHEAP!"

Unless otherwise Stated, all throws can be made into fatal moves if Health=0

Buffy/Angel entry

Characters: Buffy Summers, Willow Rosenburg, Angelus, Wesley, Conner
Secret Characters: Faith, Darth Rosenburg, Gunn, Spike, Oz (wolf-form)

Special bar Type: Fluid bar allowing for more special attacks.
Special Features: All Moves can be charged with power from the special Meter to increase the damage to an attack.

Godzilla Basic Entry:
Characters: Godzilla 90s, Anguirus, Megalon, Rodan, King Ghidorah
Special: Mechagodzilla, Destroyah, Gigan, Biollante (final Form), Titanosaurus.

Special Bar Type: Dual bar. Slow Regenerating Bearm weapon/generic special meter (Beam weapons can 'finish' an opponent). Rage meter builds up when hitting opponents successuvly many times. enters "rage" when full, all attacks are x2 damage until meter runs out in 30s.
Special Features: Super Durability
Special Drawbacks: Slow, cannot use many items on the battlefeild outside of primitive ones. No "Special Combo" moves.

Sigh...so few people have seen the Slayer Engine....

Basically, each character has more than one Kill/KO move. All Throws can be modified to produce a KO or simply snap the opponents neck.

Other moves would produce a Ko that are relativly easy to pull off.

Example Characters:

Godzilla:
Kill Moves -- Atomic Fire, Stomp, Chomp, 3 types of throw, Tail Slam while opponent is on the ground, various stgrong Punches, Double kick.

Buffy:
Kill Moves -- 3 throw/grab moves. "Slayer Ground Smash", Repeated stomping on downed opponent, A Charged hit.

Also,, many weapons/items around the arena (like big rocks, sticks, possibly real weapons) can nbe used to finish an opponent.

A fight would be something like this: Players pound on each other, occasionally throwing things at each other until one of them has no health left. then, they have to get in and hit them with a finishing move to win the match for good.

Rumble in the Realms!

Battle it out as characters like The Simbul, Elminster, Manshoon, Fzoul, Alusriel, Szas Tam and the other thayan Zulkirs, Halastar Blackcloak, Drizzt, Storm Silverhand, and Khelben "Blackstaff"

You may unlock characters like

Karsus
Midnight(before she became mystra)
Azuth( when he was the frst magister)
Shandrill
Kelemnvor(befire the time of troubles, complete with shapeshifting)
Sememmon

Spells and abilities are to be performed with a sieries of button combos, representing somatic components. They need not necessarily be done UBER qickly like in other fighting games, but the faster you do them, the faster you can get spells off.

Lemme show you how it's done:

Samus Aran(Metroid)

Stage: SR388 plain. Samus' ship sits in the center of the background. Dead bodies of Pirates, Metroids, and other beasts are scattered around at odd intervals.
Style: ???
[Editor's note: Style? What style? She's wearing freakin' power armor. She needs no style.]

1st round opening: -- Samus Teleports into her position, facing the screen.
Opening: -- Rolls onto the screen as a ball. Unrolls, and faces the opponent.
Taunt: -- Switches arm cannon between Beam or Missile.
Victory poses: -- Aims gun at opponent, and flexes arm.
-- Removes her helmet and fires at the screen.
-- [Fusion Suit only] X Parasites float out of the opponent, and Samus absorbs them.
-- [Finishes opponent within 20 seconds] Armor disappears, leaving Samus in a black-and-light blue bodysuit.
-- [Perfect, Normal Suit 1] Samus turns and holds out her hand. A Metroid Larvae floats into her hand, and she cradles it.
-- [Perfect, Normal Suit 2] Samus turns and holds out her hand. A giant Metroid floats onto the screen, stopping in front of her. Samus leans against it, idly running her hand on it's dome.
-- [Perfect, Fusion Suit Only] SA-X(X Parasite in Samus' Original armor) drops down behind Samus, and they lean back-to-back.
Draw: -- Turns back to screen.
Loss to time: -- Sinks to her knees, and punches the ground.
Sayings: -- "See you next mission!"
-- "OUT of the crosshairs, you're supposed to stay OUT of the crosshairs!"
-- "You did pretty good, care to try again?"
-- [blowout] "You called that a challenge? I've seen better fighting from Pokemon!"

Moves:

Roll Bombl(D,DP/K) -- Samus Rolls into a ball and lays a bomb. Punch causes her to roll forward after dropping the bomb, Kick makes her roll backwards.

Charge Beam/Missile(QCF+P) -- Samus fires a shot from her arm cannon. Hitting Punch up to two additional times makes her charge up the blast for more power. Missiles have slight homing ability, and Charging them up takes only one extra tap, and fires a Super Missile, which is faster and more powerful, but doesn't home in.

Screw Attack/Space Jump(DP+P) -- Samus jumps forward, wrapped in an energy field. Can be repeated for the Space Jump.

Grapple Beam(HCF+P) -- Samus lashes out with a beam of electricity, graps the opponent, and throws them over her shoulder.

Grapple Swing((in air)F,F) -- Samus grabs the ceiling and swings across. Essentially an air dash.

Super Moves:

Power Bomb(D,D,U+PPP) -- Samus drops a bomb with a larger blast radius.

Beam Change(QCF, HCB, P) -- Samus changes the properties of her Beam Weapon. Can do Ice, Wave, or Plasma Beam.

Just realized I'm going to have to re-calculate the above stats to account for strength and range of Special Attacks. Damnit.

Hmm...we got D&D, how about the Black Company universe (or at least a select few of them...)

Goblin/One Eye (moderate to low everything, special abilities involving illusions, like decoys and mirrors. Finisher: Masterwork Spear)
Croaker (modest attack speed, sword for a little attack strength, Lady's bow for a range attack (does more damage than you'd expect...Finisher: Decapitation!)
Raven (tough ass bastard, fast for a human, quick moderate speed attacks [pair of daggers], range attack, throwing dagger)

Unlockables: Darling, Limper, Soulcatcher, Howler and Lady...

Ok, how to go about this:
Spending points-style system

Special Type(s): - What kind of special meter does the 'group' use.
Special Meter types:
(1) per meter
(1) - Starts full
(-1) - Starts Empty
(0) - Has "steps"
(1) - Fluid
(1) - Regenerates on its own very slowly
(1+ 1/3x) - Refills a 'point' every Xth hit.
(-1) - Cannot be used until completely full
(1) - Increase attack power to any attack (charging up normal attacks)

Group Abilities: - What, if any, abilities does this group have universally
1 for 1 starting point
(1) - OK ability
(2) - Good Ability
(3) - Great Ability
(-1) - Small setback
(-2) - Setback
(-3) - Bad Setback

Basic Stats:
(1-10, 5 being average)
Speed: - how fast a character runs across the screen and Jump/float/flight speed.
Attack Speed: - how fast it's moves are done.
Attack Strength: - how powerfull normal moves are
Toughness: - how much damage they can take
Jump Height: - How high they can jump, float, glide or fly

Special Abilities:
(1) - Ok Special Ability
(2) - Good Special Ability
(3) Great Special Ability
(-1) - Small Drawback
(-2) - Drawback
(-3) - major Drawback

Specials:
(0) Blockable
(2) Block Breaking
(3) Unblockable
(5) No Drain meter
(4) 1/5th meter drain
(3) 1/4th Meter drain
(2) 1/3rd meter drain
(1) 1/2 meter Drain
(0) Full meter Drain
(1) Chargeable
(1) Special Effect on target
(2) Same as 4 str
(3) Same as 6 Str
(4) Same as 8 str
(5) Same as 10 str
(6) Same as 12 str
(7) Same as 14 str
(-1) normal attack speed of character
(-2) slower than characters normal attack speed
(1) faster than Normal Attack Speed of Character
(2+2x) - Increases charcters attack strength by a X times

I'll post the all around average charcter with the appropriot amount of starting points later...
