'Missing Pants' Judge Loses Job

Post by DPDarkPrimus »

AN ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGE who drew national attention for his $54 million lawsuit against a local dry cleaner could soon be getting his ticket to unemployment.

A city commission on Monday voted against reappointing Roy L. Pearson Jr. to sit on bench at the Office of Administrative Hearings, a court that rules on cases involving D.C. agencies, The Post's Keith L. Alexander reports.

Writes Alexander:

The commission's discussions are not public. Sources familiar with the deliberations said the panel hasn't drafted a letter formally notifying Pearson of its decision. Until that is done, the sources said, the decision is not final. The letter could be sent early next week, according to the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the case.

Pearson, pictured above, filed suit after the owners of Custom Cleaners in Northeast Washington allegedly lost a pair of pants he brought in for alterations. The case ended with a D.C. Superior Court judge's ruling in the cleaners' favor. Pearson later indicated he would appeal.

All that needs to happen now is for the appeal to be shot down.

I wonder what it must feel like, to be so widely reviled. Most of us have no idea what it is like to be almost universally despised, and would avoid such a fate if at all possible. He must be mentally disturbed.

Is that fucker seriously appealing? Why in the fuck would he waste the money on legal fees?

Given his history, I'm not all that surprised. However, the irony in this (if his appeal is shot down) is delicious.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

I'm unfamiliar with the case. Why does everyone hate him, specifically? There's plenty of idiots who engage in frivolous lawsuits.

He tried suing a dry-cleaners for millions for losing a pair of "designer pants" even after they offered to replace them, then found them, then offered a generous settlement. A lot of the cost were his "legal fees" even though he was representing himself. This guy is a Grade A douchebag.

I can't decide if the whole situation is funny or pathetic. This dumb ass put his job, a good job at that, and reputation on the line over a pair of fucking pants. To say this guy has issues would probably be a bit of an understatement.

He's special because he's a fucking JUDGE. This is a guy who's supposed to uphold the law, and he's turning it into a weapon of plunder and abuse.

There is no shortage of dsyfunctional people in the legal field. I'd say it even seems to attract them. This guy is such a fucking asshole, not only should he lose his job but I'd hope someone would censure him.

My dad and I always preferred "dysfucktional" when describing morally bankrupt douchebags.

I don't really see it NOT being shot down, considering the sheer absurdity, but... well, shit, someone got eighty jillion bucks because she couldn't hold her damn coffee. I guess we'll see.

God damn it, haven't we gone over that case enough already?

It was a legitimate lawsuit. McDonald's was found to be criminally negligent.

More info. Apparently, McD's served its coffee at 180-190F, hot enough to cause 3rd-degree burns in 2-7 seconds; Stella Liebeck was in contact with the stuff for 90 seconds, and suffered 3rd-degree burns over 6% of her body and lesser burns over 16%. In the end, McD's was ruled to be 80% at fault, though both parties settled out of court.

In summary, somebody did not get $80 jillion because she couldn't hold her coffee, she got >$600K because McD's served coffee that was too hot.

The coffee gave her first and second degre burns on her thighs requiring skin grafts. McDonnalds was already circulating an internal memo about burn danger to customers being a liability hazzaerd, and sugesting the temp of the coffee machine turned down. Micky D did not follow their own internal recomendations for a safety issue that resulted in 10s of thousands of dollars in medical bills.
Jesus fucking christ, it was also significantly reduced in the apeal.
This case is not in any way similar to the missing pants case.

So today's lesson is "the closed mouth gathers no feet." I'll just wallow in my shame over here in the corner. Thanks for posting that info, by the way, I didn't know that was the case.

Most of the cost was because he tried to apply the maximum penalty for the crime for each day of the "violation" for each employee of the dry cleaner's. It was malicious and stupid.

Incorrect. They decided that the number of people who would be burned was "statistically insignificant".

This is why I always wait 10-20 minutes before I start drinking any coffee I get from a convenient store or fast-food place. That shit can burn your tongue so bad you won't be able to taste anything right for a week!

Household coffeepots, OTOH, never seem to get that hot :?
