Isn't it odd how a guy is obviously a nut if he claims to have seen a UFO, but we don't automatically feel the same way about guys who claim to have a personal relationship with an imaginary sky fairy?
Most people worshiping said "sky fairy" were pressured or brainwashed into it by their families and society at large. People who see UFOs don't have that excuse.
I'm saddened that you actually try to defend this incredible double-standard. As silly as UFOs are, they're still vastly more reasonable than an omniscient omnipotent creator of the entire universe who is beyond human comprehension, yet cares deeply about what you do with your penis.
Where do I defend this? All I did is answer your question why UFOs are treated as nutty lunacy, while religion isn't. Just because I pointed out a double standard exists does not mean I'm defending it. Unless you think that I implied that families brainwashing people into worshipping an invisible being is a good thing.

Ghetto Edit: To clarify, I tried to say that religious people are less nutty than UFO-sighters because for the most part, they were pressured into believing this. They are conformists, not lunatics. Most UFO-sighters, on the other hand, get there by themselves are thus deserve all the mocking they get.

Have a very nice day.

100% SIGabble!

Although, in contrast, there is something odd about intelligent beings capable of travelling millions of light years, or cross the boundaries of time and dimension, to come to an unassuming rockball like Earth to give people colonoscopies. Or core out cow butts.

Still comedy gold.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

I'm not really wild about the weighing inherent in some of the ways the questions were asked. Kunich's nukes bit is just one example. But also I'm curious about the "importance" rating. Most of the issues where I diverged from, say, Barack Obama, are also the ones I rated as "less important" (like the Death Penalty, for example).

I also had Kucinich on top.

However, I find it surprising that Chris Dodd isn't included. He would be the one getting my vote if I would live in the US. Among other things, he put a hold on the retroactive immunity for telecommunication companies thing, and then threatened to filibuster when that wasn't enough.

Oh, one more thing: What is this school voucher thing?

The basic concept is that a voucher will give you a part of the money that would otherwise be spent on your kid via the public school system for use in a private school.

This is to counter various things, like bad schools. Some states or cities, the parents want to be able to move their kids out of bad schools and into other schools using some of that money that the goverment would be spending on them.

In Utah, the voucher bill being voted on this election can be for that, but it's also a way to fight the so called low per pupil spending and over crowed classrooms. The powers that be broke down the spending and found that in Utah a student roughly gets $7000 spent on them a year. The voucher program would allow up to $3000 of that money on a sliding scale, to be given to the student as tuition money to another school. The poorest of the poor get the $3000 and the richest of the rich can get up to $500 bucks for the same.

The thought is, and I agree here, that you're now missing one student, thus lowering class size, while keeping over half the money it took to teach the kid in the system, thus raising per pupil spending. It pretty much solves all the problems the teachers unions have been bitching about for years, but funnily enough the teachers unions are stead fast against the measure.

The bill has some flaws, that I'd like to see fixed but the basic premace is good in my view.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red
