Ok, need firewall, stat!

Kerio's been ruined by Sunbelt, and Zonealarm recently went into a 'trialware' mode and deleted itself. :rolleyes: I don't trust Windows firewall for beans, so I'm hoping to get a suitable replacement. A router is not an option right now, however.

There's Sygate, the freeware version seems to be pretty good.

I've been using combined router/windows firewall for years. Sure I'm in the narrow Australian pipes, but I've never had a problem.

Wait, are we talking about the same Sygate that was bought off by Symantec three years ago? Is their original software freeware that's being updated these days? Because if it ain't, it's hopelessly out of date.

Einy, you can rely on Windows firewall somewhat. Better if you have a DSL/cable router that has firewall functionality. You can also install a freeware version of ZA, you just need to tell it to fuck off every time it asks you to use the trial version of the full software. If you do that, it will install a basic no frills free firewall that won't expire after a limited time.
