The "Lost" book of Nostradumus.

Post by WesFox13 »

Hey all, I just watched a History Channel TV show about the so-called, Lost book of Nostradamus, it was a book with illustrations in in. At then end they said that some sort of galactic alignment of the celestial and terrestrial crosses will bring about the end of the world and that those pictures tell us that, I'm starting to wonder is that lost book possibly was nothing more than a fake just placed there. I'm also starting to wonder if all of this Nostradamus/Mayan doomsday stuff is just a bunch of BS because there could be no way that a galactic alignment could cause the world to be destroyed.

[To the Nostradumus/Mayan Doomsday believers]: December 21, 2012, I'm guessing nothing will happen, continue on with your lives.

If I had my way it would be fucking illegal to call anything written by Nostradumbass a "prediction". If you can know he "predicted" things after they happen, then it's not a fucking prediction at all. And that's not even getting into how Nostradumbass whackos gleefully alter his own fucking writings in order to make them fit into a specific event.

That said, I'm totally holding an "end of the world" party on 12/21/12.

Well, to answer your question Mike, I've not just started. I've always had this feeling that Nostra"dum"us was possibly either a misguided man or a con-artist. I also have had a bit of skepticism about the Mayan doomsday prophecy that like many doomsday prophecies made by people, it will never come despite the many people who believe it's true. Doomsday predictions have always had this nasty history of never coming true no matter who predicts it.

When I was in highschool, I read a translation of Nostradamus, expecting it to be like Milton or perhaps Dante, with obvious symbolism and a kind of episodic flow to it. Instead, it's a series of brief poems or phrases packed with indistinct imagery that didn't seam to follow a pattern or go anywhere.

How anyone can think it is some kind of Future History is literally beyond me. Even if you just compare the hundreds of passages everyone ignores to the four or five that people obsess over, it's obvious bullshit.

Back in the late 90's this college student actually wrote a quatrain in the style of Nostradamus in an effort to show that some future event could be said to have been predicted by his "prophecy". On 9/11 peopel started sending his writing around as if it was actually written by Nostradamus and it was eerily correct. Moreso than even alot of the shit Nostradamus "predicted".

For some reason the press realized that the quatrain wasn't a Nostradamus "prophecy" at all. But rather than use it to show that Nostradamus was a fraud, they just called it a hoax and insinuated that some horrible person had written it on 9/11 as some kind of sick joke.

Not by a long shot. I happen to like most of the stuff on Court TV, especially the shows on Forensics. Lately, however, they've been airing "Psychic Detective," and it really is beyond lame.

It just shows you that it all comes down to ratings and money. The truth doesn't sell.

They will show "The FBI Files" and "The New Investigators" on Discovery Times in 3 to 4 hours blocks seperated by a few hours of "Sensing Murder", which is basically "Psychic Detectives". They have alot of ghost shit on Discovery, too.

The only one I don't mind that much is the shit on the SCi-Fi channel, because that's where shows like that belong.

But the worst offender lately for me has been The History Channel with their UFO and Nostradumbass bullshit.

No, but I like the show "Psych" on USA, which has a normal detective with extraordinary powers of observation and induction, pretending to be a psychic.

Hell, even if it was about an actual psychic detective with ghost pals I wouldn't care because it's fiction.

All of Nostradamus' actual predictions have already passed the time they could have occurred.

Any so-called lost quatrain that shows up is assuredly fake.

I've found that pretty much everything on the Discovery channels is bullshit anyway. Well, maybe not on "Travel and Living" but I've never watched that so I wouldn't know. They have this crap, "Ghost Hunters", the basic premise of which is "oh my god we cannot explain what this random guy with a mint-green polyester sweater said happened so we'll bring in a psychic to sorta confirm his story".

But even many of the supposedly science-oriented shows are full of shit (for instance, yesterday, they seemed to have something about cellphone ringtones that made breasts bigger. Really. And it worked too! Some woman said so). And then they show this "The Critical Eye" where the Cigarette Smoking Man says that most of the things they say in all other shows are a bunch of bull (which is good I suppose, but why do they keep showing the other stuff then?). I guess their dinosaur programs might have been good if their special effects didn't suck so bad (seriously, removing them would be a huge improvement), and I'm guessing they're just as outdated or outright wrong as the other shows.

And Discovery Channel itself is one of the most boring channels I've ever seen, and about the only watchable thing they have, among shit about fucking cars and smelly jobs or whatever, are re-runs of "Mythbusters".

But we have another channel here which seems to show very little besides paranormal shows (and "Torchwood", I think). The latest, and a strong competitor for the title "Most Retarded Show in the History of Ever", is a show where they train psychics (i.e. people that wanted to be on the show) to talk to ghosts and animals and shit. In essence, it combines the worst of "reality shows" and paranormal shows.

I also brought up in this discussion that the so called "Lost" book full of illustrations pertaining Supposedly to Nostradumbus' quatrains was found in a Roman Library. I'm also thinking that book could be nothing more than a fake made by someone as some kind of a joke.

The idiots will obsess over it anyway. Witness how the Shroud Of Turin is still held as a miraculous proof for Jesus, when the only real tests ever done to it showed conclusively the image has been painted on.

After which, the Church quickly locked the Shroud up and never let anybody examine it again.

As for radiometric dating of the shroud showing it to be only 500 years old?

I'm no astrophysicist, but it's just idiotic for anyone to think that if the planets align, they're all going to chain their gravitic/magnetic/whatever energy together and send it like a spear to the Earth.

The only planet big enough to even have a tiny effect on the earth would be Jupiter. That being said there is a tiny effect of all the planets on the orbits of the planets near them. Jupiter is an exception after all it's being a huge thing to begin with affects things all over the solar system.

But you are correct, there would be a minimal effect on the functio of this planet from such an alignment.

I like Mysthbusters, Dirty Jobs, and The Deadliest Catch, but aside from some of the really awesome specials they have occasionally it's all shit. Thankfully they moves all of the car and bike shows to TLC, though I like American Chopper for some reason.

A valid perspective on Nostradamus can be found from a quite apt quote from Ed Wood:

But how do you know there'll be people living on Mars?

I don't. It's horseshit. Look Ed, nobody can predict the future. People believe my baloney because I make it sound good.
