Wikipedia article is back but now sucks
IIRC ther used to be a detailed article on the history of the vs debate and mention of the ICS and the main players but it got deleted by Wikitards.
Well now it's back. But it's two lines long and it's shit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_vs._Star_Trek

Man, the Wikitards can be pretty damn anal about this stuff when they put their minds to it. I should know, I'm one myself.

The problem is that there just aren't enough STvSW mooks crowding up Wikipedia. If there were as many of them, with as much free time as the batshit insane wikinerds who are obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog, Ron Paul, or many other equally worthless and unimportant topics, then the STvSW debate would rate more than two lines.Peptuck wrote:Man, the Wikitards can be pretty damn anal about this stuff when they put their minds to it. Could someone add the Youtube Star Wars vs Star Trek channel there?Pablo Sanchez wrote:The problem is that there just aren't enough STvSW mooks crowding up Wikipedia. So ... an encyclopedia which contains full entries for obscure porn actors like Kristi Myst and a detailed biography of The Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons is too important for the SW v ST debate?

I say this with full seriousness and as a regular Wikipedia editor: Wikipedia is very heavy on bullshit and painfully double standards.

I can't say I disagree with Wiki when they delete an article about an obscure, one-sided pissing match about which fictional universe could hypothetically beat the other fictional universe. It's information that can easily be merged into more relevant articles, like the ones on the ICS or Trek/Wars fandom.Heh, heh...the Wikipedia experiment is such a spectacular failure...it was supposed to be this incredible source of knowledge on everything, and now they arbitrarily declare what should and what shouldn't be in it.
Was the original deletion ever justified?
And yet they retain countless other obscure articles about things nobody but a select group of nerds care about?Bounty wrote: I can't say I disagree with Wiki when they delete an article about an obscure, one-sided pissing match about which fictional universe could hypothetically beat the other fictional universe. I know that maintaining servers costs money, so preventing bloat is a worthy goal. But this is a blatant double standard.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the vs debate has any *less* merit than the other flotsam on Wikipedia. It just doesn't strike me as a subject that anyone but a very select group of people would care about, and they already have most of the info thanks to sites like Poe's. I understand your point about the double standard.
I love the discussion page. "The people conducting the debate call it "Star Trek vs Star Wars". " Captain, I'm detecting high levels of Trektard in this vicinity!

I don't know Bounty, wiki seems exactly the place to look for obscure, Internet-related stuff like that. I know if you look on Google you can find shitloads of SWvST, but an overview of a computer-only or mainly computer hobby shared by nerds and geeks is exactly what wiki should go for.
It's an obscure hooby shared by Internet nerds. What else should Wiki aspire to? Wiki's fundamental faults non-withstanding, it took/takes itself too seriously and the longer it goes on the more bullshit it'll get. Meanwhile, highly specialized wikis related to Internet-only or computer only hobbies thrive, for example wikis devoted to specific games along with the more specialized wikis like math wikis, but math wikis only work because mathematicians are somewhat computer savvy and communicate over vast distances.
So in other words thinking that wiki should be an authoritative comprehensive source with only encyclopedic/useful information is exactly what brings it derision.
By the way what is Alyeska smoking with that "it's called the wrong thing" under discussion? Why not have a redirect to the page, isn't that a lot better?

Its a bastardised variation of the Notability Guideline that was apparently used to justify the elimination of the original article.
Thankfully, the majority of the ioriginal is still on Wookieepedia.

I don't see how biographies of porn actresses (including such details as their penchant for taking large cocks up the ass) qualify for those criteria either.

Wikipedia should just delete the damn article and any and all references to the ST Vs SW debate. I've read enough bullshit on this BBS to know only losers and permavirgins would continue the debate after "Death Star vaporizes planets and starships!" is posted.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)
