Aren't pillars of fire a rare natural phenomenon anyway, as demonstrated in Tokyo in 1928, or thereabouts?

They happen during firestorms. They look like very thin tornadoes and can be hundreds of feet high.

Courtesy of my roommate's rather odd TV watching habits, I'm getting to see an episode of this show right now. Frankly, it destroyed its credibility inside the first half hour, talking about an "alignment between the sun and the center of the galaxy" - you don't need to be a genius to see what's wrong with that statement.

Consulting with "psychics", attributing all kinds of stuff to random pictures, claiming that a later addendum to the book indicates its importance (rather than perhaps indicating that parts of it are fake, gods forbid), and unfettered use of astrological bullshit don't score high with me either.

(For now, I think I'll hold back on what I think of doom-wankers; suffice to say that they're little better than Pat Robertson and his ilk.)

The only really interesting thing I've heard from it is that temites dig two times faster when listening to heavy metal \m/.

And that was on the inside cover of a Newton magazine...

During the Griffith Park fire, we watched flame-devils spinning all over the burning hillsides. Those were only about 15-20 feet high, though.
