May well face the Gators again in the SECCG. I'd be worried about Auburn too, as they seem to be improving by the week.
Yes. I saw the game with Vanderbilt earlier in the day and Brandon Cox seems to be finding his rhythm as a quarterback again. He was more confident than he was at the beginning of the season and far less afraid of the pressure in the backfield.

Well, today we see if LSU continues on its march to the national championship or becomes the latest upset victim this season, v. Kentucky.

Short version:

Realistic but don't bet more than five bucks on it, even that might be too much.

Long Version:

It is very possible for USF to run the table. With West Virginia out of the way, Louisville having a dismal year due to a horrible defense, the last major hurdle for the Bulls is Rutgers. Rutgers demonstrated against Maryland that they have plenty of flaws and can be beaten. However there are a few games the Bulls could be upset in if they are not careful. They still have to play UCF and Cincinnati at home and Pittsburgh on the road. Any one of those games could be an upset, UCF nearly beat Texas two weeks ago Cincy is ranked, and Pittsburgh has this kid LeSean McCoy who is an absolutely fantastic Freshman Running Back capable of putting up a lot of yards if he gets help from the rest of his teammates.
I'm of the opinion USF has a fair shot of running the table. UCF is fair-to-middling this year, especially since Kyle Israel seems determined to give the ball to the other team once a quarter. The Texas game was a fluke due to the adrenaline of it being the first game at the Brighthouse. Cincinatti is dangerous, and the one I know least about. I haven't seen anything from them that really scares me, but they've been flying under the radar for a ranked team. Pitt...*sigh*...they've blown out Directional Michigan East and Grambling, lost squeakers to Michigan State and Navy, and got blown out by Virginia and UConn. They're the longest of the long shots to upset USF, simply because they don't have enough weapons to overcome USF's gross defense (16.4 points allowed per game - nobody has scored over 23).

Ohio State wins in dominating fashion...... again. I almost wish that they would play a good team and have an interesting victory, one that's worth watching. However, that might be pointless for me since all of their games are on the Big Ten Network, which I don't have. Bah.

Fuck. LSU falls in triple overtime. Another #1 tumbles. But this wasn't Kentucky beating LSU. LSU beat LSU. Blatant, stupid penalties which kept giving Kentucky all kinds of breaks and even whole second chances and just what the fuck was Matt Flynn thinking when he threw for that interception late in the 4th quarter?! He didn't have to try to force things to happen.

LSU didn't have to lose this game, but they beat themselves.

I checked ESPN's website earlier and was rather shocked at the ridiculous number of points that USF was getting. Wasn't this supposed to be a rather closer game?

After hearing about LSU and Cal, I retract my previous statement. I don't want to see OSU in any close games. Too much of a chance for upsets..... :?

Well, this week is bizarre for there being no major upset. LSU and Auburn are still playing in the 4th quarter and Auburn have taken a 1 point lead with three minutes and change, but LSU have the ball and plenty of time to close to field goal range.

Meanwhile, the Catholic high school team from South Bend suffered yet another humiliating shutout to USC —the first time since 1933 the Trojans shut out the Irish in South Bend. Thank you, Charlie Weis, you useless lump of shit.

And LSU's Matt Flynn completes a 22 yard pass to Demetrius Byrd for the touchdown! Colt David's PAT is good and LSU is back on top by six with only 10 seconds left on the clock.

I was really hoping that Iowa State would manage to pull off the big upset of Oklahoma but knew it was a majore league pipe dream. I'm still just surprised that the final score was so close. 17-7.

There's no way that game should have been as close as 17-7.

South Carolina fell to Vandy, Bama beat the dog snot out of Tennessee, and upset season continues. Can any team hang on to a top five ranking this season?

Boston College squeaks by with a 14-10 victory over 8th ranked Virginia Tech. Phew, that was a close one! 8)

I'm hoping that BC wins out and retains their #2 ranking and faces Ohio State in the championship. Personally, I'm much more comfortable with that than if OSU had to play, I dunno, LSU or somebody like that.

Ohio State vs. Boston College for the National Championship. I like it! :D

Partially because of all the SEC bitching that will go on if that happens.

"Sorry, but they are the only two undefeated teams from the major BCS conferences. Now why don't you go enjoy your game against undefeated Hawaii."

It might create even more of an interest in a playoff system, although, to tell you the truth I kind of miss the old bowl system before the BCS. I mean it's nice that the Big Ten and Pac 10 aren't completely locked into the Rose Bowl all the time but it was more fun when the last of the big bowl games were all on January 1st.

It was even more fun than the current BCS set up when the championship game rotated around the Fiesta, Rose, Orange and Sugar bowls (how the Fiesta manage to jump past the Cotton Bowl in importance is a mystery) instead of being it's own special game, held even later

Don't you love how they try to make a big deal about "January 1" bowls when the bowl is something like the Capital One Bowl or Outback Bowl? WTF? :wtf:

There have been some good games and good matchups in those bowls but the January 1st bowls should be the traditional big boys and not something completely named after a sponsor. It's bad enough that it's the Fed Ex Orange Bowl or the Tostios Fiesta Bowl.

At least it's not the "IBM OS/2 Warp Bowl", which was probably one of the most ridiculously named and useless bowl games in college football history.

LSU won against Alabama today, despite shooting themselves in the foot several times with multiple penalties for the loss of over 150 yards and three interceptions in the second quarter. Their pass-rush against the Crimson Tide front four, though, was enough to set John Parker Wilson on his ass six times —the last one for a turnover in the Alabama 10 yard zone which set up LSU's go-ahead touchdown. 41-34. Messy win but a win is a win and the Tuscaloosa press are going to be roasting Nick Saban alive starting tomorrow.

Now for my rant:

Today in South Bend, Notre Dame added to their Hall of Shame record for 2007 by losing to Navy for the first time in 44 years. They lost in triple overtime. And who was the architect of that loss? Not the team —the "Catholic High School" actually stepped up and played to Navy's level the whole afternoon and showed they'd managed to become an actual college team during the course of this Year of Humiliation. No, this one was down to one man and one man alone.

The Useless Lump Of Shit.

Charlie Weis.

Forty-fucking-Five seconds left in the game, score tied at 28-28 and the Irish are 4th and 8 on the Navy 24 but have the ball in range for a 41yd field goal attempt. The opportunity to win the goddammed game is right there. Just 45 seconds. Brandon Walker makes that kick and no way Navy's coming back.

This is a no-brainer. But, evidently, not for Charlie "Stupor-Genius" Weis, WHO INSTEAD DECIDES TO GO FOR IT rather than run the risk of actually winning the fucking game. The ball got turned over, embarassingly, on a QB sack and fumble, and we go into three overtimes which should never have been necessary to play.

Sure, Walker could have missed and the game goes to overtime anyway. But to not even take the chance to win in regulation?!

The Notre Dame players showed they'd managed to become an actual college team, played a grueling hour of classic, grind-em-up football on the ground, matched Navy score for score. But Charlie Weis pissed all their effort away because he thought going for it on 4th and 8 was a sure thing.

Sorry, Charlie, you're not Les Miles. You're not Nick Saban. You're not even Bob Davie and you couldn't shine Ty Willingham's shoes.

I'd say that award would go to the (formerly named) Humanitarian Bowl (where a truly humanitarian gesture would be to let the other team win :) )

I was at the USF-Cincinnati game. USF's offense played horribly the whole of the game and certainly deserved to lose it. The defense pretty much stepped up to the plate, but with that many turnovers even their performance mattered not.

Bama fell to LSU. Felt all along that Bama could win under two conditions:
  • 1. LSU made lots of mistakes.
    2. Bama played a perfect game.

LSU are their own worst enemy this year. And they nearly lost this game to the same causes which led to their loss to Kentucky in triple-OT: committing numerous stupid penalties which kept giving the opposition second chances and sabotaging opportunities for themselves.
