I mean aside from actually visiting the country! I'm trying to get in touch with my Polish side via music. Youtube has songs from Russian like "Kalinka" or even the Russian National Anthem (from the USSR, of course, which is still pretty neat). These songs are often very catchy and interesting to me. I was wondering if Poland had produced anything similar, catchy or otherwise.
I think a member or two on the board is Polish, but I've never seen them talk about it much. I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction here...
Good place for Polish music?

The question is: What, exactly, do you want to hear?
Popular music? Classical? Soldier's songs? Folk music?
Depending on the type, it can be easier or harder to get
For classical it's easy: Look for Chopin or Paderewski. They are (relatively) modern, and about as Polish as you get.
If you're looking for more popular tunes, try to search for:
- Justyna Steczkowska
- Edyta Górniak (meh, IMHO, but considered very good by others)
- Maryla Rodowicz
- Piotr Rubik
These are quite modern, but not the usual pop-drivel. I don't know much about oldie classics, other than Czerwone Gitary. Others can probably give you more.
For soldier's songs, you can check out the following titles:
- Szturmówka
- Karpacka brygada
- Sanitariuszka Małgorzatka
- Pałacyk michla
- Pierwsza brygada
- Maszerują strzelcy
- Hej, hej ułani!
- Przybyli ułani pod okienko
- O natalio
That's just a small sample that I can cite off the top of my head.
You probably won't "Get" soldier's songs unless you know Polish pretty well, though. The lyrics are extremely important.
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you need something else.

I'm sorry for being too general. I listened to "Kalinka" the other night and the tune caught my fancy. Since then I've found the song running through my head. As far as I know it's a Folk song, but I know nothing about Russian culture.
I think Polish Folk music would be a good starting point, since I've always liked that music. In the meantime I'll try some of the other songs listed. I don't know Polish at all, but that's ok I suppose. Thanks PeZook!

Marek Grechuta is definitely one of my favourites, he has a supremely powerful voice, and a great style.
