What if the Federation DID/COULD win/was winning?

Post by The Guid »

First of all, I am not arguing that if you do the number crunching or what have you that somehow Star Trek would go through the Empire like butter. That argument is over, I understand that, totally.

Really I do.

What I am asking was that IF the Star Trek Universe had some way in which it was vastly superior to the Star Wars Universe what would the political ramifications be. Let's say for a ball park figure that it takes a fleet of strong Star Wars ships to take down a single staple Star Trek ship and that Star Wars is unable to reverse engineer whatever makes the Star Trek Universe so special.

I'm not going to specify an era in either SW or ST so that this can be a more wide ranging topic. We'll assume that there is a wormhole that links to the two places and that both are in fairly uncharted areas of space.

My guess would be that it would very much depend on whether we are talking about the Empire or a Republic. A Republic would likely get on well with the Federation though I can imagine things being icy as both would likely fear the other - the Federation would fear the Republic's size where the Republic would fear the Federation's technology.

Would the Klingons be tempted to go on the war path? Would the Federation protect the Republic? How would the Romulans abuse the situation and would the Ferengi prosper with a larger free market to play with? Would the Borg go straight for it? Would the Dominion, pre Dominion war, focus their energies on this new space to try and expand their dominance?

Maybe if the conservative ideology put a roof overhead, food on the table, and employed the downtrodden the poor folk would be all for it, too". - Broomstick

The strongest power in Trek would go on a colony spree.

The topic itself makes little debate since, we know what the larger side does...since there is no way to stop them.

You can imagine the Darktards from st-v-sw.net would be jacking off to something like this even as we speak. :wanker:

I'd be more interested in what the Borg Collective might do, because if in this scenario ST tech is suddenly vastly superior, the Borg would not want to assimilate any SW worlds. On the other hand though, with so many inhabited worlds the Borg would be very intersted in assimilating such an abundant wealth of resources in terms of both drones and raw materials.

For SW territory to be as large as it is in canon, they’d still have to have hyperdrive. This massive speed booster tech would be an invaluable target for ST powers, including the Borg.
I wish to propose for the reader's favorable consideration a doctrine which may, I fear, appear wildly paradoxical and subversive. The doctrine in question is this: that it is undesirable to believe a proposition when there is no ground whatever for supposing it true. I must, of course, admit that if such an opinion became common it would completely transform our social life and our political system; since both are at present faultless, this must weigh against it.
