Transforming toys for the VF-25 are likely going to fall apart if you sneeze real hard at it. (I had a Jetfire toy-- you know, the VF-1J with Autobot insignia on it-- fall apart after a friend tugged a little too hard while transforming it.) Not a good sign.VF5SS wrote:Actually the entire forward fuselage (the nose section really) just extends outwards on rails, does a 180, and then plugs back in.

Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Fighter and GERWALK modes look a lot like that of the Valkyries in 'Macross II'. Battroid mode looks a lot like that of the YF-19.VF5SS wrote:Here's a new scan of the VF-25 thanks to Mr. March of the Macross Mecha Manual.

I wouldn't worry about the transforming toy of the VF-25 falling apart by being sneezed at. I'm assuming you haven't seen or don't own any of the 1/48 Yamato VF-1s or the 1/60 VF-0 and SV-51? The VF-25 is pretty much the same deal as the SV-51 transformation wise, and that holds together pretty darn well. I've had my SV-51 do a swan dive from my display shelf and it still survived, although I did have a heart attack along the way.
I know there is a method, but all I see is the madness.

Valkyries have never been toy friendly. God bless em for that.

Macross II proved that you can draw the Macross in Masami Obari styled and then blow it up real good. The Macross was the only thing from Miyatake in II. The rest is credited to Koichi Ohata and Kazumi Fujita. And I'm not what you mean by, "animators can reproduced his designs when he's not around." It's not like he was overseeing the animation of the original show. Unless you're confusing him with character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto who actually did work on the animation and was even one of the animation directors for DYRL.

Correct. Macross II (and some video games that it built off of and were in turn built off of it) were thrown into an alternate setting when Macross Plus came out. Some people argue it's a sequel to DYRL. It certainly plays out like a copy of DYRL at times.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Doesn't Macross II not count or something like that?

I see Macross II as a poor attempt by Big West to generate more music sales for JVC Victor. Well, I take that back. The music is ok, but there's something wrong when an OVA gets canned like two episodes in and then has to rush towards an ending. Also several million points for blowing up the Macross in a stupid plan.

Quite frankly, if the utterly, vastly inferior VF-17 is still around, God knows there should be VF-19s and VF-21s. And while we're at it, maybe we'll see an X-9 Ghost in there somewhere? They might be turned off the idea seeing what happened at the end of Plus, but that wasn't really the fault of the Ghost.
I mean seriously - they were looking to replace the VF-17 decades before this series.

Their colony ship looks like some derivative of the Megaroad class. Lots about this mission seem to speak retro. Else why wouldn't it be a City-Ship fleet like in that godawful Macross 7 show?Ford Prefect wrote:Quite frankly, if the utterly, vastly inferior VF-17 is still around, God knows there should be VF-19s and VF-21s. If there are VF-17s still in service, we really should be seeing VF-19s since they were designed to be the VF-11's replacement as the main U.N. Spacy frontline fighter. The VF-17 was a stealth special-ops fighter and was supposed to be supplemented/replaced with the YF-21/VF-22.Ford Prefect wrote:Quite frankly, if the utterly, vastly inferior VF-17 is still around, God knows there should be VF-19s and VF-21s. I guess in Macross F the VF-25 could have already replaced the VF-19 as the main fighter, and the VF-17 hasn't been fully replaced (by the VF-22 or any other fighters) as the stealth special-ops fighter.
I don't know how I feel about the VF-25's design, it feels less "advanced" somehow compared to the VF-19 and VF-22. I guess it's because the wings resemble those of the VF-1 or F-14 so much.

There is actually a Macross class colony ship in that fleet (you can see it in the background). This would make it similar to the Macross 7 fleet, which only had a single Macross class colony ship as well.Nephtys wrote:Their colony ship looks like some derivative of the Megaroad class. Regardless, they have VF-25s. It seems odd to be using fighters from two generations previous to them, especially considering how utterly useless VF-17s were in comparison to the 19/21 (even if they had to scale back their capabilities for mass production, they'd still shit on the 17 from a great height).

Hell, Miriya still had her own VF-1J in Macross 7.
And according to the Macross Compendium there was a "modernized version with completely upgraded materials, avionics and power plants" called the VF-1X. It even had upgraded FAST packs with missiles in the leg armor.
It's like a Strike Valkyie on steroids.

First off, there's a screw-up on my part. I got the VF-17 and VF-11 mixed up.Grasscutter wrote:If there are VF-17s still in service, we really should be seeing VF-19s since they were designed to be the VF-11's replacement as the main U.N. It was my understanding from Plus that Project Super Nova was intended to choose the UN Spacy's next mainline fighter, either the 19 or 21. The YF-19 and YF-21 were both actually very similar: the major differences were of course the control systems*, though the 19 had better performance (not massively better, and more than made up for by General Galaxy's BDI technology, and more a function of needing to keep the pilot alive) and the 21 had stealth capabilities which were presumably better than the 19.
Project Super Nova didn't actually finish, of course, which might have contributed to it, but I really wouldn't have expected to see the 17 still in service 9or the 11, incidentally). What's the point? The 19 and 21 are both fold capable fighters with much greater performance.
*The VF-25 better have a 19 styled cockpit, for great justice.
