First off, there's a screw-up on my part. I got the VF-17 and VF-11 mixed up.

It was my understanding from Plus that Project Super Nova was intended to choose the UN Spacy's next mainline fighter, either the 19 or 21. The YF-19 and YF-21 were both actually very similar: the major differences were of course the control systems*, though the 19 had better performance (not massively better, and more than made up for by General Galaxy's BDI technology, and more a function of needing to keep the pilot alive) and the 21 had stealth capabilities which were presumably better than the 19.

Project Super Nova didn't actually finish, of course, which might have contributed to it, but I really wouldn't have expected to see the 17 still in service 9or the 11, incidentally). What's the point? The 19 and 21 are both fold capable fighters with much greater performance.

*The VF-25 better have a 19 styled cockpit, for great justice.
But Project Super Nova did produce results. The Macross 7 Fleet was issued VF-19s and 22s for special work, which is why Idiot Popstar Basra somehow gets a superpowerful fighter to play guitar music from.

I somehow think if they can issue one to that clown and equip it with subwoofer bullets, they can actually deploy it with other fleets instead of more VF-17's. And this silly new design that's mostly empty space and transformy parts.

At least Max got a Sturmvogel.

Here's hoping that the 25 actually kicks ass. I wonder if by now they have some form of acceleration compensation technology - the 19/21 were both capable of agility that could kill (implode!) its pilot.

It's quite possible it's a retro feel because it's an old Megaroad fleet that's still cruising around (either that or there's a bitchin' re-animation of the original SDF-02 launch). After all, was only the 11th fleet launched and they didn't convert over to the Neo-Macross-class until somewhere in the 2031 timeframe and they've been hurling fleets out since 2012.

Some thoughts on the -25. It looks like a lovechild of a VF-11 and a VF-19. It's quite possible that the -19 and -22 were entirely replaced by this time frame since they were so dreadfully costly and the -25 is the JSF of it's time. i.e. creating a slightly downgraded version of the two to reduce the cost.

Though where the hell is the VF-17 and the Neo-Macross-class?

lol that armor is seen once in the opening to Macross VFX.

Also I believe the VF-17 is now the secondary fighter that has replaced the VF-11. Or it has possibly replaced the VF-5000 as the cheap fighter. The possibilities are endless! Hopefully a VF-17 in the show will end the embargo on anything Macross 7 or Macross VFX related in terms of toys. Damn Bandai.

Also that blue haired guy (Alto Saotome) is hawt~!

I dunno. Being associated with Macross VFX (which is almost a sin against god) does tend to knock a few points off the coolness rating. But it was never seen in the game and was just in the intro, which is one of the few things cool about Macross VFX.

Seriously though, I like both Robotech and Macross as semi-separate entities, so it doesn't matter to me.

Okay, that brief glimpse of the Super VF-25 makes me like the machine a hell of a lot more.

Here's hoping the series has badass characters instead of the cliche "whiny little bitch who the writers think the audience will identify with, but ends up making the audience change channels" I keep seeing in giant robot anime. If the series delivers, here's hoping it gets licensed in the US.
Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.

Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.

They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Macross has largely been fairly light on those.

Whatever the problems it's main characters have had, whinybitchitis is not one of them.

I think Basra was a whiny bitch. His annoyance factor was a good part of why M7 was awful. And don't forget to ~LISTEN TO MY SONG!~

Have you ever actually watched Macross? It's a Shoujo drama with robots.

The only decent thing Macross 7 had going for it was near the end of the series when Max and his wife decided to go nuts in their respective VFs.

The rest ... was worthless to the point of making your brain really hurt.

Macross Plus, OTOH, was fantastic.

Macross 7 was a waste of awesome mecha and ship designs. And it was LONG.

I just recently resumed my watching of Macross 7 after taking a 5 month break from the midway point of it. So far its not as bad as it was in the beginning, but its still pretty cheesy. They just got into using these "Sound Energy booster" things to help fight off this giant Protodevlin monster thats started harassing the fleet.

Overall Its a cheesy series but it grows on you the more you watch it, atleast it does for me and it still is Macross. I wouldnt mind it so much if the mecha artwork and animation was better. Theres alot of very poorly detailed art and animation quality in the battles and such but thats largely because it was made back in the mid 90's i think. If the series were to be remade now it could be done much better I think.

Basara was pretty much the exact opposite of a whiny bitch. He was a complete egoist, total messiah complex from start to finish. He was an annoying cunt, but not because he was whiny.

Just a reminder, the first episode of Macross F airs this Sunday. The series will kick off in April 2008. Also, Graham of Macrossworld.com has created a page of gathered information on Macross F. You can see it here.
