Torchwood S2 stuff (spoilers)

Post by Dartzap »

The Beeb just released the first press release for the new series of the show we all love to hate.Beeb
Torchwood

Torchwood, the award-winning drama created by Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies, returns for an even bigger and bolder series with Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and his alien-fighting team, premiering on BBC Two.

Captain Jack, Gwen (Eve Myles), Owen (Burn Gorman), Toshiko (Naoko Mori) and Ianto (Gareth David-Lloyd) – the team of investigators solving alien and human crimes in the underworld of modern-day Cardiff – face high-octane adventures which push their resolve and friendships as never before.

Joined by Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who's Martha Jones) for three episodes and with guest stars Richard Briers (Monarch Of The Glen), Alan Dale (Ugly Betty, Neighbours) and James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), they journey from contemporary Cardiff to the 51st-Century, and back to the First World War.

On their travels, Torchwood battle fearsome new aliens; a rogue Time Agent; a tragic Time-Slip from the Great War; and a memory thief who uncovers long-forgotten secrets among the entire team.
The only interesting bit there would appear to be anouther Time Agent appearing out thin air (probably quite literally)

Time war, world war, 51st century. Sorry, was the rest of space and time already booked?

Sounds better this time, but I'm still cautious.

The previous 3 psts should be immortalised as 'How Taste Works and Taste Fails', my third abstract piece.

I'm intrigued as to what James Marsters and Richard Briers will be doing, personally.
"So you want to live on a planet?"
"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"

So abstract, in fact, that I have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

It's Stark needling me again for having a different opinion to him, but I agree with him that the first season of TW was mostly shite.

Oh grow up you horrible moron. It's me pointing out you have no taste because you're 'looking forward' to a show with terrible pedigree and extremely vague statements about what they're going to do. It's like looking forward to Star Trek because they say 'this season there will be aliens and maybe a spaceship'. Looking forward to something based on no real reason to do so = no taste.

.. What awards did Torchwood win? I'll probably watch it and be horribly confused. If only because this year I actually have a telly as opposed to my student room.

Oh, I'm a horrible moron because I'm being cautiously optimistic? It's just a TV show Stark, you're the one who should grow up - if it's still awful, it's still awful, and I'll kick it to the curb.

Don't be ridiculous. The first season sucked cock, and you defended it and liked it. There's little reason to assume the second season will be better (as 'here are some plot fragments' is hardly boosting confidence) but you look forward to it anyway. You and your gerbil-faced optimism irritates me no end. If I say 'you have poor taste' when you do things like this, you complaining I'm being mean is pretty lame. Your taste IS bad.

Amusingly, S2 Torchwood might end up being better than S4 Doctor Who, given how terrible most of S3 was. If they have some actual 'investigating alien crime' and less 'investigating each other's assholes' or 'doing the same shit Doctor Who does' this wouldn't surprise me.

A guy on my course gets stuff leaked to him from his inside sources all the time, he's already got a load of synopses for the new series. The new time agent is called something like "Captain John" something or other (I was told it today but it's slipped my mind) and is played by James Marsters.

Why have we not heard of this before! Are you in WALES?

PS 'baseless optimism' and 'liking things with massive flaws' are almost the definition of 'no taste'. :)

If this is true, Zuul, then I'm definately watching the episodes with him.

Hell, I'm watching them anyway. I'm a fanwhore for Marsters.

No, but not far away. And I don't know how much I can say or not. :P

It's that kind of attitude that made you, personally, lose the second world war.

I was *there*, man you don't UNDERSTAND!

We need to argue whether the drop in DW quality and the apparent (baseless, pure optimism-based) rise in TW quality might mean the shows are similar in quality next year. This would be The Funny. Cause I hear TW is going to be better, and god knows DW is hardly at the top of it's game... maybe the Doctor will end up doing cameos on TW to pay the bills!

Now now, we can but hope the gap year for DW will somehow generate some sort of miracle and it'll improve...

Also, myself and the guy on my course plan on getting in there on a work placement around the time Dr Who comes back from its gap year. But shhhh. ;)

Oh, and guess what? I found out about all his connections because he was posting on Outpost Gallifrey! I said "Hey, I was banned from there!" and then we laughed at my awesome posts and banning thread.

And you, Stark, CLEARLY have a bias against Torchwood. Your contempt and hatred are so strong that it continually puzzles me that you even bother to read threads dealing with the show. Unless, of course, you get your rocks off insulting those who have some affection - however slight - for the show.

If someone else enjoys rolling in shit what is it to you? I don't like Cheez Whiz but I don't demand it be removed from the shelves of stores, either.

Oddly enough, assholes seem to be one of the few orifices that weren't continually probed on the show.... though if Captain Jack gets him a fine young man that might well change in the next season.

Now, that would be an improvement!

If someone enjoys rolling in shit I'm going to detail the health consequences. Torchwood is shit. It's so outrageously bad it's almost a self-parody. People can *watch* it all they like - there are any number of reasons to watch a bad show - but actually saying 'no no it's really okay and based on zero information I think it'll get better' is retarded, baseless and pure optimism.

You just quoted me saying a) Orange defended a terrible show, b) there's so little information on second season there's nothing to judge it aside from 'the first season was terrible and c) Orange already thinks it'll be better because he thinks everything will be better. Do you have a problem with these statements, aside from 'lol Stark hates Torchwood'? Of COURSE I hate it. It's RUBBISH.

Mindlessly expecting a show to get better when there is no indication this will happen is, in fact, optimism. Remember when Voyager fans did that?

No Gwen is an easy way to make the show better, but they've still got a wholly offensive or useless cast in juvenile and contrived situations. I'm going to watch the first episode, simply because I'm curious if they reboot the characters (which I think is their best bet) or try and pull some more morality-reversal with everyone just not talking about the murder and the insanity and the self-hatred. That'd work if they had actors, but instead they have the mentally ill.

Apparently, Owen turns into whatever monster he was bitten by in one of the episodes. So, uh, take note.

That's not what you do. What you do is "detail the health consequences" THEN add a helping of piss and vinegar on top of it:

phfisssssssssssssh!
"Hey! WTF you DOING?"
"Well, you're rolling in shit and liking it so..."
"Yeah, I like rolling in shit, not in piss!"
"Aren't they the same thing?"
"No, not at all - one is lumpy and the other is watery."
"Yeah, but they both stink"
"OK, but they don't stink the same So stop pissing on my favorite stink!"
but actually saying 'no no it's really okay and based on zero information I think it'll get better' is retarded, baseless and pure optimism.
Nowhere am I disputing this part of your statement(s), it is the other excess baggage I'm not thrilled about.
Do you have a problem with these statements, aside from 'lol Stark hates Torchwood'? Of COURSE I hate it. It's RUBBISH.
I would think your loathing goes a bit beyond mere "hate" - more like, you view an episode of Torchwood with the same dread I would view looking into a septic tank that needs dredging. Which, again, makes me wonder why you inflict Torchwood threads on yourself.
