Damn.
Here is one 40 year old who never watched Sesame Street, so I have no idea what the fuss is about other than from reading all of the replies.

Then again, even today my television is only on perhaps 3 hours a week, so this is nothing unusual for me when people discuss the latest on TV.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

How about something relevant that's not an anime? Scooby Doo comes to mind.

A bunch of teenagers going around the country with flowers on their van, who have a talking dog, goes to old overgrown buildings all the time, and one of them have the munchies. I think we're all clear what was really going on inside that van: kinky orgies that included bestiality brought on by excessive use of marijuana.

I watched Sesame Street, but I don't have any strong memories of it. Rebecca can recall certain songs they sang, certain people being guests, etc. I just remember the Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and the guy who lived in the garbage can.

I remember all the obnoxious French-language segments they tried to push on us Canadian kids who just wanted to see some damn Muppets. I guess a few years ago they repackaged the show here as "Sesame Park" and took out all the classic muppets for the Canuck knockoffs, like Basil the polar bear and Louie the otter. Ugh.

Man, I remember when I was watching Sesame Street as a kid. I even got several of the song collections they did on tape. And I'm old enough to remember when Mr. Hooper died. Fuck man, that made me bawl as a kid. But it didn't make me stop watching, I kept tuning in to make sure all my Sesame Street friends were ok. :)

I used to watch it at lunchtime when I was at at school.

High school, that is :) I always loved those jellyfish-looking aliens; "yipyipyip"
"So you want to live on a planet?"
"No. I think I'd find it a bit small and wierd."
"Aren't they dangerous? Don't they get hit by stuff?"

My. God! They're making early Sesame Street sound like Avenue Q!

Snuffy a hallucination? Chrissakes, he interacted with the adults of Sesame Street on his own with Big Bird nowhere in sight! Nobody knew it was him, but he was definitely interacting with them. He was definitely not a hallucination. I was smart enough to figure this out when I was a little nipper.

Cookie Monster an addict? It's not like I didn't understand the urge to pig out on cookies all day. And Cookie Monster was just a glutton. He was eating hot dog stands since 1983 (Don't Eat the Pictures — Ahh, memories!).

Oscar depressed? Chrissakes, the guy was a grouch, not depressed. And he liked TRASH (as evidenced in Don't Eat — he gets genuinely happy over the broken art gallery and breaks into song), which is why he lives in a trash can. And he always behaved like you interrupted some important activity, and it wasn't lying on his bed feeling sorry for himself.

These PC parents need a sound beating with the cluebat! Oh, right. That's violence, innit? Can't have that...
Darth Wong on Strollers vs. Assholes: "There were days when I wished that my stroller had weapons on it."
wilfulton on Bible genetics: "If two screaming lunatics copulate in front of another screaming lunatic, the result will be yet another screaming lunatic. 8)"
SirNitram: "The nation of France is a theory, not a fact. It should therefore be approached with an open mind, and critically debated and considered."

i do believe my waffles have been roffled

Hey, at least the show got canceled in 2002. It's no longer polluting kids' minds with its filthy, pro-communist message, and unabashed tolerance of disabled people.

Sesame Park was atrocious. It was Sesame Street for a reason: it was in the fucking streets. The park version didn't teach anyone shit.

It's like, we can't trust our kids to turn out as well adjusted as we are!
