Megadeus Automation?
Having just watched a few episodes of Big O I realised that the Bigs were making actions that seemed to be impossibly delicate for the seemingly simple controls that the pilots have and so i was wondering to what degree the Bigs were capable of controlling their own actions or any other ways the Bigs would be capable of independant operations with a pilot disabled or killed, any ideas?

Sorry, what's this thread about?
Sounds like something interesting.

Its about an Anime show called Big O that deals with giant robots called Bigs and the problems about keeping them in a city that has no memories from 40 years ago, and i am wondering just how the Bigs are capable of making delicate movements with only the simple controls the pilots have at their control, movements like wedging their hands into an opponents chest armour and yanking it off.

How much of the show have you seen?
It's kinda depicted in a few episodes, and mentioned slightly in others. That said, it's a decent enough show. The second season ending is pretty weird, and it starts to go psychological around the last half of that season. (It asks some pretty good questions through out... but it starts popping up more then.)

In terms of "How the Bigs do things when you only have simple sticks to control"
I've always been under the assumption that a big deal of it is "Will" That you holding the controls, and all of your will is focused on "Ripping the chest armour from this other Big" then your Big responds to you and follows through.
A Big part of the show is that the (main) bigs have a will of thier own.. They CAN act, the CAN operate, but only on the most basic of levels. The require a pilot/Master to actually achieve thier full potential.
Many times throught the show we see pilots doing little more then moving the two main Control sticks back and forth... Back and forth, back and forth. Yet the actions they cause vary wildly. Again, I would think it comes back to force of Will.
To tie into this, later on we'll see some of the pilots doubt themselves, they loose focus, almostly immediatly, the Megaduse stops responding. They move the sticks, but nothing happens. Conversly, at other times under extream duress, we'll see the Megaduse preform far and abve normal operating by an extream sense of Will from a pilot.

OK, well the Bigs are tied to their pilots. That's why only certain specific individuals can actually use one (the purpose of the "Cast in the name of God" bit). At one point you see someone try to use one and the Megadeus rejects him.
They are fully capable of moving and functioning on their own, however without a pilot to function as their "heart" they will never achieve their full potential and just be big beat sticks with no purpose "in life". As Crossroads pointed out will, or emotional state is important. To access a Megadeus' full potential the Dominus must be fully dedicated to the bond between himself and his Megadeus. This comes about late in the series, and there are 2 ways to do this bond. The first is the cheap one that raises a Megadeus + Dominus pair above any normal one, but requires the Dominus to physically bond himself (through cabling) to his Megadeus. The other is a full emotional bond where the two agree to work in sync and be partners forever kinda thing (a spiritual/mental rather than physical connection), with this bond being the supreme union of Dominus and Megadeus.

This "Power of God" is a fully realized Megadeus. The closest we get is Big O in "final stage," however a truly fully realized one is seen with Big Venus. This Megadeus was essentially able re-write reality (hence the Power of God), although there are limits to this and a price involved. Any more is a major story spoiler. Big Venus is the character Angel, she is the reason that Paradigm City is the way it is. She restarted the world after people had gone crazy in wars and Megadeuses were common. This is the reason that no one has any memories, she wiped everything and gave the survivors a chance to live better lives. She later realizes what she is at the end of the series and ends up doing it again to give Roger another chance at life, with the last scene of the series being almost identical to the first.Ezekyle Abaddon wrote:spoilers are Ok, and one more thing what is the "Power of God" that Schwartzwald mentioned I know that the destructive powers of the Bigs is huge but is that all?
