Shields and Holonet
Can anyone quickly give me a source saying that the shields of the ISD damaged by an asteroid in TESB were turned off for better transmission? I need it because I'm in a heated debate with some Trektard who refuses to accept the Ep. II ICS's 200 gigaton turbolasers, and is using TESB as proof.

Sorry, pal, it is a combo attack
There is no one source you can use to prove that.
To look at how to execute the attack, search
http://h4h.com/louis/shields.html
I'm sure hidden in the myriad threads here also include examples on how to do the attack, and other well-known examples of execution of this attack is:
http://www.stardestroyer.net/Empire/Hat ... ailey.html
To describe the combo. Well, you use P.110 of HTTE to block off the idea of subspace transmissions going through shields. You then use the SW2ICS quote on P.3 to block off the idea of hyperwave (which includes HoloNet relays.) To kill off the faint chance of them using "radionics," you then show them the P.129 of the SWE, where under the picture of the Imperial Captain reporting to Lord Vader shortly before the asteroid hit, it has a caption going "HoloNet transmission." That seals off the radio or other lightspeed communications.

Using subspace transmissions thru shielding is possible but hyperwaves which are the crucial part in holonet transmissions cannot be boosted thru shields in any way, here is a relevant quote regarding it from AOTC:ICS
hyperwaves, faster than light signals using which it is possible to run a real time conversation between holonet
stations.Hyperwave transcievers require almost stellar-scale power, yet signals can be blocked by nearby massive obstructions or by deflector shielding
Hope that helps

Long range communication is impossible when the combat shields are up. At this time they are down to "local" communication... enough to coordinate huge battlegroups, but not enough to coordinate a mulit-solarsystem strike.Mr Bean wrote:As has always been noted Communcation with shields up is impossible, As noted a few times as well in the Zahn Books KS

You can also point out that we never see exactly how badly damaged the bridge tower is since asteroid debris completly blocks our view of it and the scene changes before any of it clears. You can also see that the outline of the back of the bridge is still there through the debris.
A graphic analysis of the asteroid collision should really go up on either this or Wayne's site to illustrate what I'm trying to say. Perhaps with an outline of where the bridge tower would be behind the debris.

Thanks guys. BTW, this guy's even more of a retard than I thought. Now he's claiming that turbolasers can't be 200 gigatons because no known armor can withstand that kind of firepower. Apparently he can't get it into his head that SW uses fictional material as ship armor. He also claims to have refuted Wong's entire site (but can only show nitpicks when I asked for them), and that Wong's no better than Darkstar.

There are undoubtedly a million Trekkies out there who claim that they have refuted my entire website. Such claims do not count for much; there are millions of creationists who claim to have refuted pretty much all of astrophysics, geology, paleontology, and biology too.

That question was answered, I think...So who is this guy so we may mock in full force?
Apart from that, I guess I was wrong. I thought you didnt need to lower sheilds in order to make a holonet transmission, you learn things everyday...He's some guy on the GameFaqs.com Star Trek and Star Wars boards by the name of "Angelblade."
(No, I am not that guy.)
