high deffinition earth rise pics from moon

Post by dragon »

Some nice views of an earth rise especially if veiwing with HD. See this is why we need more moon missions.
A Japanese moon probe has replicated the famous Apollo-era "Earth-rise" photograph with modern high-definition imaging.

The Kaguya spacecraft, also called Selene, has been orbiting 62 miles (100 kilometers) above the moon since Oct. 18.

The new Earth-rise image shows our blue world floating in the blackness of space. Released today, it is a still shot taken from video made by the craft's high-definition television (HDTV) for space.

A second image, taken from a different location in the lunar orbit, has been dubbed Earth-set. A related series of still images shows our planet setting beyond the lunar horizon.

In the Earth-set image, Earth appears upside-down; visible are Australia and Asia. A region near the moon's south pole is seen in the foreground.

The footage was taken Nov. 7 using equipment provided by the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK).

The orbiter mission is run by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Its first high-definition videos of Earth were sent back last month. The mission objectives are to obtain scientific data on the origin and evolution of the moon and to develop the technology for future lunar exploration.

You won't believe how much I want the goddamned Japanese to finish testing their equipment already, and give us a shitload of incredible, HD photos of the Moon!

It will be the greatest Christman present ever. In fact, I think I'll put moon photos on my Christmas cards this year.

Actually, that sounds like a terrific idea for a card. Maybe if you added some decorative stuff around the edges . . . I'll get to work on it.

Here's a thought.
Anyone think of taking the new probe pictures, comparing them with the old Apollo pics, and then taking one of the "hoax" idiots and shove them face-first into the pictures shouting "SEE? SEE? You fucking idiot, they're IDENTICAL! Now stop making the Internet dumber, you fuckhead!"

...just a thought. :D

Those are some seriously beautiful pictures, too. Those alone make me glad that Kaguya is a success.

They will try to take photos of the landing sites, though the probe's cameras don't have enough resolution to pick up the landers or buggies.

They may be able to make out the scarring left by descent engines, though - of course, hoax proposers will just dismiss it as a meteor strike, or claim the probe is part of a conspiracy.

By the Japanese. Of all people.

Sweet! In the Earth-set pictures, you can see the Indian sub-continent. I pointed out the approximate location of Lahore to my father, using our globe as a reference. I can see his house from here! :P

A Chinese probe should also be there too for extra pictures as well.
