United Russia - party will fully control key Duma commitees

Isaev: Key commitees must be controlled by the victors

United Russia will not share commanding posts in key commitees with it's opponents in the Vth Call Duma, the vice-secretary of the general party council Andrey Isaev told the journalists.

According to him, key commitees on budget planning, labour laws, social policy, constitutional legislation, state construction policy will be managed by the representatives of the victorious party.

Isaev remarked that the structure of the future Duma has not been discussed yet, however, the number of commitees could be reduced, or expanded. "In the Vth Call Duma the number of commitees will be enough to represent interests of all structures and the society in general". - cites RIA(n).

According to Isaev, it's irrelevant which positions the party representatives occupy, because it doesn't depend on how effectively they work. He noted that one of the "Just Russia" representatives who was his vice-man, was only present at congresses of the commitee four times for the whole term of the former Duma.
Yes, because ONE person working badly is a reason to exclude all other parties from the law forming structures which are commitees. That is ridiculous, other parties are totally disempowered in this paper Duma. I mean, fuck, Belarus is authoritarian and even there representatives of different parties can staff the government, but not in "democratic" Russia? Fuck, I didn't think it would take a turn for the worse so fast after their victory. :( They really must be brave.

I mean, it's not like their full control of Social Policy commitee resulted in a horrendous pension reform, where the Zurabov-controlled Pension Fund has built 300-million rouble costing OFFICE PALACES in provincial towns of Russia with armed guards, while the average pension in Russia is less than the OFFICIAL SURVIVAL MINIMUM.

I thought the food inflation was bad enough for them to realize that it's better to put at least a "Just Russia" representative in charge of the Pensions instead of fucking Zurabov (whom 87% of pensioneers, according to the polls, want out NOW)... you know, to levy the old men's anger a bit... well, fuck. :(

I don't know what to think of the Russian elections any more. Either Putin pulled a daring public coup against... well, himself, or the Russian people have a weird craving for dictators.

People are just complacently voting for Putin - until bad things happen. Were those elections ran in early 2006, a totally different result would've been produced.

Hasn;t he gone up in popularity since publicly lambasting the US? Or is that just a case of him making comments that don't really register at home, but get big play in the US media?

Yes. The peak unpopularity of his government and "United Russia" was early 2006, when the pension reform drove thousands of people into massive street protests.

That weared out by now, the Fradkov government has been re-staffed (to avoid any negative association) and the reform of course made most pensioneers vote straight "Communist" or "Just Russia", but no wider repercursions to "United Russia" popularity followed.
