LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Batman" star Christian Bale is in negotiations to headline the fourth instalment of the "Terminator" movie series.
In "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins", the Welsh actor would play the John Connor role originated by Edward Furlong in 1991's "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" and continued by Nick Stahl in 2003's "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines".
Charlie's Angels" director Joseph "McG" Nichol is in negotiations to shoot the movie, which will be distributed by Warner Bros.
James Cameron originated the sci-fi series, which made Arnold Schwarzenegger a star, with 1984's "The Terminator". The series centred on a robot from the future where machines wage war against humanity, whose goal was to kill Sarah Connor, the mother of the future leader of the human resistance.
As the movies progressed, the son took a more prominent role. In "T4", Bale's character leads what is left of the human race against the machines.
Bale is currently filming "The Dark Knight", a sequel to his debut 2005 Batman outing "Batman Begins".
Cleric John Preston would assrape Nick Stahl with his lil' guns faster than you can say "Tetragrammaton". That's good news.

I mean, I think Bale is great and would be much better than Stahl, but...are they even bothering with continuity anymore? We have four different John Connors, kids. And fucking McG?

It is the gauge by which we measure good action movies. T2 is brilliant in that respect and has timeless effects to boot, like Jurassic Park. The fate issue may have been contradictory, but as a movie franchise, Cameron's Terminator is exceptional low budget sci-fi horror and big budget action movie.
T3 had a nice ending. It wasn't a Terminator movie. I won't even go into the series I've yet to see which seems to piss on everything else.
Bale is good. I question his usefulness in this project though. A lame director and the butchering of the future war scenes in T3 (LOL, pew pew lazers!!) leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth.
Anyone who thinks T2 is a bad film in its own right is fucking up the wrong tree, I suspect. It's one that will withstand the test of time.
As for T4 having Bale in it, I hope it's good. It really needs to be to solve the godawful T3 and to allow Bale's awesomeness to shine through. I've always argued that done right, T3 would've been set in the future war detailing what this will apparently cover and I stand by that. I just hope they go the extra mile and understand the themes, style and intricacies of T1 and 2, and hire Brad Fiedel again to give it the industrial score it needs that was sorely missing from T3. If I were them, I would hire Cameron to direct or at least be a technical advisor.

The primary factor in determining whether or not T4 will suck is the story. T1 and T2 had good stories, T3 did not. I like Christian Bale, but I didn't like McG's handling of the 'Charlie's Angels' movies. Hopefully, T4 will resemble 'Equilibrium' instead of 'Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle'.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)
And is Claire Danes still contracted to play... whoever she played in T3? 'Cause without her and that character she played, this movie is lost, I tell you.
Anyways, I wouldn't put it past whoever's writing this to save their shiny new John Connor from termination via some more time-travel baloney and try to sell the idea that "ZOMG constant timeline revision is the norm in the Termiverse, how cool is that?!"

Claire Danes played the woman who'll marry John Connor and, after the "Talk to the hand" terminator kills John, becomes leader of the human resistance and the one who reprograms the terminator to protect John. Personally, I didn't think her role was very important to T3, except to attract women viewers as "We have strong women, too!" bait.

T2 was great until Sarah tried to kill Dyson. Preventing Judgment Day turned the story to shit, IMO.
She didn't necessarily prevent anything; that's why she said the future was like a "blackened highway at night" instead of the rosy alternative ending that Cameron opted not to use since it didn't flow with the rest of it.

This movie cannot exist, because there was no such thing as T3. It sucked too much to be real.
How I would do it, is to disreguard 3. Make it a Prequel set in the original future timeline. You still get the basic idea across, it still is sort of a sequel too three. (You don't need to mention the date.)
Bale usually picks pretty good roles. So that has my hopes up. (OK, minus Reign of Fire.)
^ I agree. However, because it is the most artistically sound thing to do, the studio will probably fail to consider it.
Although, not casting Stahl again indicates at least some desire to distance themselves from T3. Sort of like with the new Hulk. Alternatively, they might just be seeking a big non-Schwartzenegger name to sell the flick with.

Incidentally, how long or difficult would it be for Arnie to spend a few hours down at some studio recording lines for the film if they included yet ANOTHER T-800, but without the organic exterior? It couldn't stand between his job as governor all that much?
