Ha, I was right.

That is some freaking awesome memory storage capacity the Replicators have. The complete mind state and body of 5 people is a fucking non-trivial amount of data.

Hooray for "Double Jeopardy" Mk 2. Right down to the duplicates all sacrificing themselves for the originals.
If you're going to do a duplicate episode, at least devote a good chunk of time to the characterization and drama type stuff. I realize it's hard to film and execute that kind of thing, but if you're doing it anyway...

I think that last "Oh Crap" from Rodney must go down as one of the great Stargate momentsMeest wrote:Sadly the only part I liked this week was the last minute or so and the end credit remark of Rodney, the rest made even less sense than the Double Jeopardy episode.

I agree with the previous posters that the duplicate situation was handled poorly. Their sacrifice didn't even make sense and was pure writers' fiat do to production concerns - there's absolutely no difference between only duplicate Sheppard sacrificing himself in the jumper and all of them sacrificing themselves. Duplicate Rodney's sacrifice is the least plausible one, especially considering their remarks earlier (yeah, I know, Rodney is a bit of an egoist so they shouldn't be considered to be truth - however everyone acknowledges that he is one of the very top scientists/engineers they have).
Too bad the production team didn't have the guts to do a nBSG Pegasus situation - sure, you know that the poor duplicates are going to have a very limited lifespan and a violent death relatively soon, but at least they could have been sacrificed in a way that moves the story along instead of the self-contained episode mandated reset button. As it is, I would have really preferred it if duplicate Wier was the only duplicate so that they could have kept the character around instead of forcing the reset.
And now that I'm mentioning it, the thought that both Wiers' deaths were weak sprung up - the original Wier is killed off screen, which might actually be for the best considering where the writers put her character with the nanite plot point, however then the duplicate is killed in an unnecessary gesture and now, if they want any sort of Wier character back - and lets face it, thats common on Stargate - they will have to do yet another implausible technobable solution which screams "plot hole". Not very satisfying.

Hey, it's not a total reset button. They do have the replicator tracking system.
And we don't know %100 that the first Weir is dead. She could have been killed and then brought back after the faction split off. Yes, very implausible, but also possible.
As a whole, I don't think this episode was all that great. It seemed rather slow for all but the last 10 minutes. Although as others have said, Rodney's closing remarks are priceless.

Not quite. It only tracks Replicator Aurora class ships. Now if the Replicators built another type, will it track those as well? Also, if someone else has an Aurora class ship, will it track them?Braedley wrote:Hey, it's not a total reset button. They do have the replicator tracking system.
I liked the byplay between the two Rodneys. Or Sheppard's reaction.Braedley wrote:As a whole, I don't think this episode was all that great. It seemed rather slow for all but the last 10 minutes. Although as others have said, Rodney's closing remarks are priceless.
"Can you imagine what it would be like to have two of me working at the base?"
"I'm trying not to."
The other option with getting rid of the duplicates, is that they might have been tracked. Of course, they could have used the EMP gizmo to shut down the internal nanotech, but that might have killed the copies.
Still, the Replicator base could have been written better. Instead of creating the mystery where the data disappears, just have false data displayed. Make a fake diagnosis that Sheppard has some disease in him, and give him a long treatment (which includes secretly reprogramming the nanobots to lower their repair rate). Presto, 'mystery' solved, and they can get back to work.

Interesting to see the Asuran cruisers in a good well lit situation.

And why do the replicators call it Aurora class ship?

Because they're talking to humans they've taken a brain scan of, and have been impersonating the comrades of. Why call it a Vanasix class cruiser if they're not going to comprehend that. They also don't call themselves replicators, but she used that phrase.Gustav32Vasa wrote:And why do the replicators call it Aurora class ship?

Anyone also unimpressed by the drone use, the Ancients really need another weapon. It looked like they used the same old Death Glider pyro effects for ground work even though they came from smaller Ancient ships, still pathetic in the city shots. What's the use of a penetrator round with no power behind it?

I'm going to assume that the Asurans wanted to reclaim the materials for the city and some point, and thus, didn't want to sink it.Meest wrote:Anyone also unimpressed by the drone use, the Ancients really need another weapon. I'll believe them dead when they get physically blasted apart. We have only seen a stun mode from those handblasters the replicators used.Brother-Captain Gaius wrote:Hooray for "Double Jeopardy" Mk 2. Right down to the duplicates all sacrificing themselves for the originals.
Also, the nanities in the duplicates are perfectly capable of repairing extensive neural damage. Sure it wipes the brain, but those nanities have a "factory image" so to speak of the duplicates. When we see the duplicates slice thier hands and heal, it heals to exactly how it was. Including natural deformaties which shouldnt be there if the nanities had to effect repairs only using thier DNA as a building plan.

Is it me or dont we usually get a cliff hanger about this point ?
This entire season feels like it has done nothing but grind along with the barest of actual progression. We see very little of this supposed war thats going on and what we have seen has been fairly bland repetative fillers.
The only saving grace for them being total fillers is the fact we get maybe one or two things that occur leading on to the next episode. Most of the attempts at 'drama' have been morbid as well.
The Weir situation is completely pointless. We spent half a season wondering about her fate only to get it finished with this...
We got that vision of a city being decimated and it turns out it was another worthless attempt at creating suspense.
We got those two Wraith Hives showing up and killing each other and now we are supposed to believe the Asurans are about to finally come to the fore.
I find it somewhat dubious Rodney is suprised by how many ships the Asurans have from their past ability at construction and the extensive Ancient technology base they have to work from. If all those blips were how many Asurans ships are being constructed every time the thing updates then I see cheap super weapon code writer fiat being the only way to resolve this.
With that amount of ships and production capability the Asurans should have been able to rape 99% of the Milky Way with even a small amount of Aurora vessels. Even with the amount of blips we see on the screen the Asurans could do a nasty job of wiping out Earth.
If they have the ability to construct city ships well enough those rebels were able to go unnoticed then I dont see how the Wraith could even be a threat to their planet if they sent all their fleet to Earth.

I can't help but think that the series would have been beter done villain wise if the Wraith were Lloiger instead.

Actually, I'm surprised nobody noticed. In Daxos' vision, there were multiple Replicator vessels hammering Atlantis. Here, there was just the one.
