Oh, that sounds like a debit card, actually. I can see why he might be worried about that.
And that is another reason why I might stick to wire transfer in the future: its simple. Debit card, bank card, credit card, ARRGG banks need a fucking manual for themselves and for all their cards. They did NOT cover this in household classes.

You may want to look into Paypal. You can link your debit card into it, and nobody will be able to draw out money from your debit card itself since you're only giving them your email address when you send or receive money.

I will in the future. But right now, I'll just stick to the simple part.

The reason why people use credit cards or paypal is security. Paypal especially, if you buy off eBay you can go after them if they don't send the shit. What happens if you wire transfer, and they send nothing? You have no recourse.

If your dad only has a debit card, then it is a bad use of a debit card (not the wire transfer, using a debit card online). I would get a credit card ASAP, or use Paypal and link my debit card to the Paypal, which takes only a couple days to confirm and is just a few clicks away.

I have a friend who doesn't want to pay attention to the "complicated" things like using credit cards, keeping track of who is using your credit and what, and he's getting fucked over and over. If I were you I wouldn't let that happen, and best way is learn the basics. Debit cards are very different beasts than credit cards.

Picard was right: the most important things in life you don't learn in school. Unfortunately.

In the US perhaps, but linking a debit card to Paypal is rarely available in Europe.

Its available if your bank issues Visa Electron as your debit card (for those countries not in the eurozone, its usually issued as debit card for a foreign currency account) AND your bank must allow online transactions on it (a lot don't - for example UniCredit group's banks, one of the leading banking groups in southern, central and eastern Europe, don't).

This is what i do:

I went to a different bank than the one I keep my savings in and opened an account with a debit card, which is a Mastercard, as long as it's Mastercard or Visa (and not some lite version, like Visa Electron and stuff) they will never be rejected by anyone that accepts the credit card versions. Unlike a credit card debit cards are really easy to set up you yourself can probably open one and the bank will probably only ask for an initial $100 or $200 dollar deposit and an ID, and the process takes like 15 mins, there is no background check. I keep $200 dollars in it at most unless i specifically need more, and use it for all my online shopping and subscriptions. If it ever gets stolen, well, other than the hassle i'll only lose a few hundred bucks.

Of course it might be different in your country, but at least so far it's worked for me everywhere i go.

Wow, what an utterly useless post Shogoki. On the one hand your repeating the advice of using a separate account, and on the other your drop a ton of US-centric smug bullshit. Why do you think I'm suggesting Visa Electron if the usual cards were available as debit? Because they fucking aren't that's why. Its one thing to post a US-centric post in a thread such as this in one of the first few posts, but at this point, after it has been clearly established that there are major differences in financial systems when dealing with cards and their availability?

He's just making a joke to the recent thread about a Southern US girl not knowing where it is. :)
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Oh. Sorry then.

Anyway, I've arranged wire transfer yesterday along with a deibt/credit card, (it doesn't have credit, it takes from my bank account directly, but I can supposedly purchase stuff on the net with it).

I just hope that the 20000 Ft will be enough. The funny thing is, that the game itself is about 5200 Ft. That's cheapness for you.
