Muslim saves Jews from Christians

A suspected bias attack on four Jewish subway riders has resulted in a friendship between the Jewish victims and the Muslim college student who came to their aid.

Walter Adler is calling Hassan Askari a hero for intervening when Adler and three friends were assaulted on a subway train in lower Manhattan on Friday night.

The altercation erupted when Adler and his friends said "Happy Chanukah" to a group yelling "Merry Christmas" on the Brooklyn-bound train.

The 20-year-old Askari said he tried to fight off the 10 attackers, giving Adler a chance to summon police by pulling an emergency brake.

"I did what I thought was right," said Askari, a student at Berkeley College in Manhattan, who was allegedly punched and beaten. "I did the best that I could to help."

Eight men and two women have pleaded not guilty to assault, menacing and other charges in the case. Prosecutors have said the charges could be upgraded to hate crimes.

"That a random Muslim kid helped some Jewish kids, that's what's positive about New York," said Adler, 23, who suffered a broken nose and a lip wound.

I always figured the hysteria about "Happy Holidays" being anti-Christian reeked of anti-Semitism, with fundies now saying "Merry Christmas" not as a greeting, but as some kind of magical hex-word to ward off "DA JOOOOOOOOOOZ!"

Holy shit, I KNOW Walter Adler. He runs the pseudo-underground group called "Agents of Change."

He is not Jewish, to my knowledge. In fact, I wouldn't put it past him to do this as a publicity stunt.

I've known that people are ridiculously hyped up about Merry Christmas over Happy Holidays vs Merry Christmas vs whatever else but this is the first I've heard of an attack over it.

I've tended to say Merry Christmas myself, because that's what I celebrate. Come the 25th I'm going to pretend, however faintly, that a jolly fat man wearing a ridiculous red suit is going to somehow squeeze is fat ass down my chimney, or rather, through the locked door since I don't have a chimney and leave brightly wrapped presents under an all but dead evergreen covered in shiny balls and lights.

But when someone responds to me with Happy Holidays or whatever, I don't care. At worst, I nod and smile and wave in response. Conversely, if they open with that, I may respond with Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas.

This ridiculous stupidity also ignores that holiday is a combination of the words "holy day" and has been around since at least 1825 back when Christmas was the 12 days of Christmas (if you could afford it) and when they sure as shit weren't trying to "take the Christ out of Christmas".

Which leads to my next rant, what the fuck is wrong with the abbreviation Xmas? Oh no, I've used the Greek chi instead of Christ, oh, but wait Chi is an abbreviation for Christ dating back to the 1st century. Oops. More bullshit.

My point? Whiny Christians should shut the fuck up. Live and let live. They think that the season is one of peace and good will towards men. Unless you happen to not celebrate exactly the same as they do, in which case you're trying to oppress them and should be forced to do what they do. In which case they can fuck right the hell off.

P.S. Obviously, the first part of my post assumes that the attack is geniune and not staged as is suspected. If it was fake, well, I'm just raving against the bullshit I have to listen to and see on signs. If not, well, the rant doubly applies.

Any mention of the race of the ten attackers? I'd be willing to bet that this is less about Christmas and more about ten black kids wailing on a white guy... again.

The absence of any mention of the attackers skin color is usually a dead giveaway that they were black.

If it was a publicity stunt, it is the best publicity stunt ever. Look at those macho peabrain's muscles, look at the tattoo, look at him hold the gun to the girl's head. I can't imagine those muscleheads having anything to do with a lanky waiter with two jobs and a well dressed Jewish guy.

Hatred of Jews still shocks me. I didn't learn about the Holocaust or Jew hatred until Grade Ten history, and that is pretty late to be learning most of the world's inhabitants are scum.

So I can completely understand where the incredulity comes from initially, probably lack of exposure to musclehead moron Jew haters. However, SW's initial remark that they were probably black stings. There's enough retard whites around, hicks, chavs, trailer trash, who are devout to imagine it happening not just as a black attack.

There are plenty of stupid whites, just like there's plenty of stupid blacks and stupid asians.

Grow a thicker skin bubba... I hadn't seen pictures, noted the absence of any discussion of race (which, at least in the Seattle area, is usually a sign that the attackers were black), took a guess, and ended up being wrong. Oh well...

Anyhoo, I don't know why this religion and race of the people involved is necessary. You just help people, fuck it if he's a jew or a muslim. Question: Since when is lack of a mention of race considered a dead giveaway that they're black?

From what I've seen, it's the opposite. When it's whites beating blacks, no one thinks to mention race, but when it's blacks beating whites it's printed big, bold, black and white letters (pun sorta intended).

Then again I'm not exactly familiar with Seattle, do they actually have a history of doing the exact opposite of most of the rest of the nation?

Seattle's newspapers (and TV stations) are different - they try so hard to not offend minorities that they generally won't mention the race unless the guy is white. I can think of a couple of cases off the top of my head where the newspaper and TV stations included a description of suspects (one a rape, another an assault against a gay guy, a third where a guy grabbed a woman and tried to assault her) that included everything except the person's race. Great... we're looking for a 5'10, 185 lb guy with black hair and a mustache, but have no idea if he's white, asian, black, hispanic, indian, etc.

In real-life, I've started referring to it as the "War on Santa". That's a good way of describing what is essentially a war against the secular Christmas that is actually far more beloved than the religious one, much to the chagrin of religious fanatics.
