I love you, KOEI

Yeah, I'm a slut for those games too. But they look like ass and Koei is not one to spend any real time porting properly. I'm more excited about DW6 for 360, actually - a DW game with heaps of guys and it hopefully won't look like poo!
Bladestorm looks like carpet and is only single player, so it fails as a Koei slasher. It's more Kessen for tryhards.

I have no idea what this game is about but from the screen shots it still looks woefully shitty for the wii
I am the hammer, I am the right hand of my Lord. The instrument of His will and the gauntlet about His fist. The tip of His spear, the edge of His sword. I am His wrath just as he is my shield. I am the bane of His foes and the woe of the treacherous. I am the end.

Jesus fuck my eyes Christ, are they EVER going to get a new goddamned game engine!? I mean seriously! It's been the same fucking engine since the PS2 came out. Two different series of games and at least sixteen titles across two generations of systems.
I fully admit to being a Warriors fan whore (*owns DW4, DW4XL, DW4E, DW5, SW1, SW2, SW2E*), but I'm getting really, really tired of shinier textures being called an 'upgrade'. Sure, Hitman has had the same engine too, but at least they had the decency to make it look nicer with every iteration.
99 nights had better graphics, and did DW better than DW did.

Drooling Iguana: No, John. You are the liberals.
Phantasee: So extortion is cooler and it promotes job creation!
Ford Prefect: Maybe there can be a twist ending where Vlad shows up for the one on one duel, only to discover that Sun Tzu ignored it and burnt all his crops.

I mean I want a game where we can ride in on our horses, fire our bows while moving at full gallop, raze, loot, pillage, sack, burn etc.
go through China, Russia, Middle East and Europe, and say invade Japan too for shits and giggles.

It seems to indicate that the wiimote's swing function will only be used for attacking multiple dudes, so unless they're radically changing the combat system, that would probably only apply to the area effect 'triangle' button move and mousou or whatever. I call it mushu.
Which is not terribly satisfying.

I hope you're wrong. But regardless, I'll buy it, because I am Koei's manwhore. just like George Lucas owns my soul and I'll buy as many box sets as he releases.Covenant wrote:It seems to indicate that the wiimote's swing function will only be used for attacking multiple dudes, so unless they're radically changing the combat system, that would probably only apply to the area effect 'triangle' button move and mousou or whatever. So... it's basically Samurai Warriors 2 in first-person for Wii? Considering I considered SW2 to be the fucking pinnacle of the PS2 incarnations... ehh.
Doesn't help that I don't remember Honda Tadakatsu's weapon(s) looking so "what?" on the PS2 either.
Slightly off-topic, looked at Nobunaga's Ambition screenshots... there is nothing quite like being able to continually "forward deploy" your best combat officers (high LDR, and preferably musket-oriented) so that even when not stationed adjacent to target locations you can still use them... and worse yet for the enemy, they're drafted from the remnants of your previous victims' roster.
Oh, and waterproof muskets.

Actually, I'm partially wrong. It seems there's some difference between single person and sweep moves, and that your weapon is responsive based on the direction you swing, as well as the force you swing it with--making it often extremely tiring to play several rounds due to fatigue. I consider that to be a bonus though, as it forces a lot more immersion by making people actually do either quick flicking moves that have a lot of force or big moves that are like real swords. That's a big step in the right direction. I found Link's wiimote controls to be fun enough for playing through with, but this is basically like that plus directional sensitivity. Not so bad.Chardok wrote:I hope you're wrong. I don't believe there's any swordfighting actually in play, so it's more like Oblivion with a Wiimote, but that's not so bad. Not like amazing gameplay--it doesn't appear that there's any benefit chopping down over slashing horizontally--but at least it does seem that it recognizes the direction and makes the sword swing that way.
The graphics, however, are just as bad as they seem to be in those shots. However, the advantage is that it no longer chokes when rendering hordes of several tens of men the way it used to. Another advantage is that the game is mostly on-rails, meaning that while this is not the game you were probably hoping for (a freeform run-around game with interactive swordplay) it will certainly be a fun game to play. Apparently it's got over 100 missions, and that's bound not to disappoint.

At least it's not Dynasty Warriors Mahjong.
