But they do that as standard, don't they?

It's just the description. A normal skull is grinning, yeah, but to call it that emphasizes that feature, which is creepy. Partly because a skull can't actually grin, being dead and all.

Also: Oh man, not Bomber!

No, not Bomber. Not yet. I've still got plans for him. :P

The scene after the current one (today's upload) will explain his reappearance in more detail.

So what do you have to do to get on this 'cleaned/completed' board? Street is original fic, and not quite completed, but it's certainly highly polished.

I don't know what you have to do about that, I'm sure the policy is in the Announcements of this forum or that one.

Latest installment: Oh please, a sex scene? I didn't see this coming at all.

Are you complaining? :P

Some things that get foreshadowed are just going to happen, 'cause there's no way for them not to, sooner or later. I don't believe that romantic tension is the be-all end-all of male-female character interaction. ;)

Just started reading this story yesterday, and so far I think it is first rate. I've gotten to the point where the protaganists went to America, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Hey, that's excellent, thanks a lot for posting. It's a real morale boost to see Street's still getting interest from new readers after having been around so long.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the story equally much.

That's part of the reason I posted here: to bump it back up and let new people see it for the first time. I want to share!

Heh, good man. It's working, traffic drawn in from forums is still my #1 source of hits. Readership seems to have grown by about a third over the last two months, and one or two sites are now actually carrying the banner ad.

It's growing slowly and insidiously into the web. ;)

Clearly, you know me too well. Fan service in a serial novel? I guess I can check that off the list of things I've seen.

What do you mean, fanservice? That's preposterous! I only said you'd like it. What about this scene could qualify as that?

I mean, first off, you'd need fans.

The master copy of Street Year One is finally finished. At the moment I'm editing the whole mess from the start, and once that's done I've got a wee publisher lined up for a POD-print edition of Year One. All in all, exciting developments in Street-land!

So if you're getting any christmas money this year, you'll know what to spend it on!

The University of Alberta has an Espresso machine, it lets students print copies of books with cover and everything. If I bought a book from you, could you send it to me as a format suitable for printing? Then I could have an excuse to use the new toy :D

The news story on the machine

Hm, I dunno if I can. I guess it depends on the format at which your machine can print.

I can talk to the Bookstore people tomorrow for you. They have on at the World Bank and the New York Public Library as well, if either of those is close to you (I don't know where the 4th is).

Actually, according to Wikipedia (the article looks like it was written by the makers), a PDF will be sufficient. Do you have a cover picked out?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espresso_Book_Machine

YouTube has some decent videos of it working, but it's a bit boring to watch (I assume it will be the most interesting thing ever if I actually use the thing, though).

I know, but what book formats can this thing of yours print? I need to know so I can print a PDF to the right sizes.

This would be a whole lot easier if you just bought the book that's coming out in a few weeks, y'know. ;)

An artist friend of mine is working on one.

What are the dimensions of the book you plan to print? This machine is supposed to be able to print textbooks (soft cover), and those are usually bigger than most novels.

If we did it your way, I would have no reason to play with the new machine! Don't you like the future? Do you hate technology?

Also, this way I don't have to wait for your book to get shipped :)

Our first printing will be 6"x9", with a nice cover and an exclusive preview of Street Year Two. I'm afraid you only get the preview if you buy the book. ;)

There are no plans to make/sell PDFs as far as I know, so anything I might send you would just be a rough print-off, possibly without a cover, depending on my contract.

What's the format you send it to the printers in? Or do they arrange it themselves?

I think it's PDF, but I don't know for sure. Either way, you realise I won't be allowed to just give you the printer's file.

Oh, forgot to mention, there's been a Street christmas special running as of sunday -- a new segment every day until the end of Year One. Three more to go!

Oh dear -- well, at the risk of triple-posting, I'd like to announce the last scene of Street for this year is up on the site today, ending the first year's uninterrupted run. We're taking a quick holiday, but we'll be back on the 14th of January with a whole new year!

Everyone here who reads, thank you for your patronage, and I hope you'll keep reading it for a good while longer!

Regards,
Winter
