It's the rush from getting your adrenaline pumping. Just like a rollercoaster.
I don't get anime. I watched cartoons when I was a kid, the bright colours entertained me. When I became a man I put away childish things.
You get that most adults that watch cartoon are watching adult cartoons, right?

Another one is chocolate. I know it tastes nice, but I would be totally unable to eat large amounts of it in one sitting, because my throat becomes dry, and the chocolate tastes bitter. I don't know how some people can do it/claim they'd like to.
You, sir, need either milk or white chocolate. Dark chocolate is bitter; the above are not.

I don't get the popularity of Family Guy, it's idiotic humor and the characters are all assholes.

I also don't get the sheer wank that Halo gets, and I'm a big Halo fan. I like the stories of the games, and I like running around like a super-soldier saving the world every now and then, but for the love of god there are hugely better games out there! Gears of War has a far better gameplay, Perfect Dark the original has a story that's just as good and gameplay that's still fun. I don't get where all the fucking wank comes from, it pisses me off because as a sane fan of Halo it annoys me that other people base their opinion of the franchise on the fanwhores. That goes for every other franchise I enjoy as well.

Beer is not always bitter. So I can agree with the refreshing part. Now some are very bitter, more so than coffee, if that is possible, but those I don't drink.

Transformers: How people weren't walking out of this en masse I'll never know. From the opening which basically screams "We're an all-American team of army guys" to somewhere after I stopped paying much attention, it was a long dull abomination of a film.

The main things that come to mind for me have already been mentioned...
beer - if I want to drink something that tastes that nasty, I'll just save myself some money and bottle my own piss, ok? stupid idiots calling me gay for drinking a strawberry daiquiri instead... :x
South Park - pretty much everything 18 said. Used to watch it myself, back in the first couple of seasons when it was actually funny... now... now when I occasionally watch it out of misplaced nostalgia I get a TWO-PARTER of Matt and Trey trying to say how much better they are than the guys who write Family Guy and FAILING MISERABLY (plus a jab at the Simpsons with Cartman metaphorically waving his penis at Bart  ), Mr. Garrison turned gay turned woman turned lesbian (Matt, Trey, I know you guys think that's funny, but that's really just shit-ass writing) all so they could have a 300 parody, and a commercial where they seem to think that having Cartman go all Bugs Bunny on Bin Laden had some kind of historical significance. Seriously, WTF?

I have never managed to give any value to alcohol or find its use in any way or form "funny", despite immense peer pressure. People are still trying to get me to drink and to get drunk, despite the fact that I honestly confess being more than just little reserved about the matter. I just don't want to get drunk.

Lucifer - yes, it's a good comic. But no, it's NOT the greatest comic of them all, no matter what. The protagonist is entirely unlikeable by design, every character is more or less self-absorbed (with the exception of Death, Destiny and apparently the much-reviled Heavenly Host) and after the creation of Lucifer's Cosmos and God's self-imposed exile the storyline became stagnant.

Most of the people posting here about beer probably haven't even tried real beer. If it's from the U.S., and from one of the major brewers, you're drinking light beer at best. I wouldn't call it the nectar of the gods either, but a good beer can be a worthwhile drink, once you've acquired the taste.

Having said that, I've spent some effort trying to acquire other tastes, and have been unsuccessful. Hard liquor of almost all types, for example, is something that I just can't find a way to appreciate. The appeal of coffee eludes me, aside from the obvious caffeine delivery mechanism. I've tried to read and enjoy "Ulysses" by James Joyce, and despite its reputation as one of the great books of the 20th century, I can't do either.

I've tried every popular brand of beer in NZ. When people are constantly offering you beers, it's sometimes easier just to take one, and every now and then I think "I'll give it another chance". Some are worse than others, but none of them were really enjoyable.

U.S. light lagers(which are brewed in the U.S., Canada, and Australia, mainly) are based off of the Czech pilsener style of beer, which is very bitter by design(adding hops to beer allows it to "keep" longer, which was important when transporting beer to market back in the olden days). U.S. light lagers and anything made in the style of them are typically brewed with adjuncts and fillers to reduce the overall severity of the beer's flavor, but since they are ultimately derived from the pilsener, they retain that characteristic note of bitterness.

Perhaps ironically, U.S. light lagers are difficult beers to brew, because their lack of flavor means that that any errors committed in the brewing process cannot be masked and are easily tasted. Such beers and their associated bitterness could easily turn a person off to beer in general, but there are literally dozens, if not hundreds, of distinct styles of beer, each with their own distinct flavors. I wouldn't go so far as to say there's a style of beer for everyone, but there's probably at least one brew that most people would find tolerable.

I don't get facebook. Sure, you can talk to people you don't see a lot in real ife, but more often than not you end up talking to people you don't see a lot for a reason. And the conversations never really go beyond "hi wuts up?" and "lol nt much how r u?".

I've never tried facebook. There seems to be a fair bit of social pressure to join, though: my wife has received repeated requests from acquaintances to join their little "friend" communities on facebook, and she's starting to get the sense that these people are reluctant to communicate with her any other way.

I use facebook as an easy way to keep in touch wtih casual acquaintances and old school friends. Its not good for much else if you aren't in college.

So if you're in college it suddenly does more? Like what?

It's a huge productivity sink in all the offices I've seen, and people sure do both a) try to get everyon they know in there so they can do all their 'social' crap at the same time and b) apparently constantly search for people they know every few months.

I'd imagine it's a fairly good way to stay in touch with old friends from High School.

No shit. He said 'it's not good for much else unless you're in college'. So... if you're in college, what non-communication things does it do? Strikes me it would be EXACTLY THE SAME if you were in college.

Sorry, I didn't realize I had to explain myself. WHEN I WAS IN COLLEGE it was useful because different student organizations made facebook pages. You could join groups on facebook for things you were interested in, like student government or 'Future inventors'. It was also great for parties, because you could send out invitations via facebook and even create an 'event' page for your party, with all the relevant information.

Its also way better for sharing pictures taken at said parties and group events.

I don't look for new people anymore, but I'm always glad when they find me.

I dunno, from my limited exposure there's a group (even in Brisbane) for pretty much everything. It was originally a college-only thing, wasn't it? I guess in a controlled environment like that I'd be more 'reliable' than just waiting for shit to happen in groups, as apparently happens these days.

But all those things are done by non-college groups. I expected some new college-only functionality.

Porn for the same reason as spectator sports...

Beer isn't alwys bitter, those tend to be the ones i drink. Shitty beer gives me heart burn and foams in my tummy. I don't understand why cheap beer is popular.

Originally, it would let you search for people who were in the same classes as you, if they'd uploaded their schedules. I made more than one last-minute-homework-save that way.

There needs to be a critical mass of people you know who use Facebook. Nearly everyone I know has it, and for a lot of people it's the next step in relationships and communication. There may be people who are far away that you can't really talk to without incurring huge phone bills. There may be people you see every day, but that's a different useful.

With Facebook Mobile, it's a lot more useful than email (I can't figure out how to get Gmail to text me when I get mail). If someone posts on my wall, I know right away (literally, the text comes within a minute even during peak hours). Same thing with private messages. It's kind of like a forum, in a sense. Anyone can see conversations on Walls, like threads, except the way it works is everyone gets their own thread. So if you see someone mention something they did/are doing on another's Wall, you can chime in with something relevant.

And then there are the private messages for the private conversations. Facebook brings together quasi-IMs via the Walls, and emails via the PM feature. Plus pictures and things like that. These are all things we have here at SDN, it's just that Facebook is more oriented at real-life connections.

Anime-I dont like the style and they repeat themselves too much..DBZ anyone.

Quintin Tarentino films, the newest ones, theres a few I like, mostly due to nastalga.

The obsession with everyone has to have a cell phone, of course I hate having to answer a phone anyway, and hate talking on it.

Halo-fun game, beat it on legendary, both 1 and 2. The pvp element of it honestly sucks.
