Quantifying "Mars Attacks" Martians

Post by Crossroads Inc. »

Watched the movie and the nerd side of my brain started getting the better of me... Now, I can't do math or true calculations to save my life, but here are some interesting observations.
=========

Martian Blaster Rifle:
It fires blue and red 'zappy' bolts that, when used on exposed flesh, almost immediately disintegrate it in seconds leaving a skeleton. When used on physical objects, it is show to easily blow up objects ranging from jeeps, to fully armoured tanks ((I believe I saw even an Abrams in the movie)) The rate of fire is incredibly fast and evidently the 'battery pack' is quite extensive as we never see one being reloaded or recharged in the movie.

Martian Attack Saucer (Deffens):
While we don't see it, the Saucer must have some form of energy shield. During one seen, we see a nuclear warhead explode near by. The shockwave in that scene does little but simply rock the ship about somewhat. Later, as the Martians are driven mad and the ships begin to malfunction, we see ships collide into each other and explode in massive fire-balls. This would indicate a powerful shield system that, once dropped, leaves the saucer quite vulnerable to attack.

Martian Attack Saucer (Offens):
The only attack we see from the Saucer is a massive "Zappy" gun similar to the Martian Rifles. It is extremely rapid firing and can be aimed in any direction under the saucer providing excellent coverage. The weapon itself was shown vary in terms of intensity throughout the movie. Obvious it has a variable energy setting similar to Imperial Turbolasers that let the Martians dick around with whatever they are blowing up. Evidence for this come from scenes where one gun is used to blast the Washington monument producing a very small explosion (minimal yield use) to another scene which had the beam re-carving the face of mount Rushmore in seconds. (Higher energy use + extremely beam for carving rock and display of exact cutting) Perhaps the largest explosion witnessed was when one destroyed BigBen. A very short blast made the clock tower Erupt in a MASSIVE fireball, which, given that BigBen has nothing in it that can explode, means all Energy, came from the Zappy gun blast itself. Also when France is attacked, a Saucer is seen heating the Eiffel Tower to the point where it is visibly glowing and collapses from heating a matter of seconds. I would imagine there are calculations to be derived somewhere in here.

Martian Technology:
A more intangible power. The examples of just what the Martians can do should allude to their mastery over various powers and rules of nature. Within the movie we see Martians "pressed" into combat suits by a stamp machine. This shows an almost 'replicator' like technology as the material for the suit seems to come from nowhere in particular. Also we see they have VERY 'strange' medical knowledge. The can keep a severed head not jut alive, but able to talk and ‘breath’ Also they can splice parts from different species together without any immune response, an example of which, splicing a dog onto a humans body, and vice versa. Perhaps most bizarre was when the heat and explosive energy from a nuclear detonation was 'sucked up' into something no bigger then a beach ball.

All of these show that the Martians have an insane understanding of physics and science, and may have many more abilities in which to defend against the Imps.

Being Dicks:
Perhaps the most intangible asset. If it is one thing we see the Martians do over and over, it is being Dicks. Weather it is time and again saying "We come in peace, we mean you no harm" when disintegrating people, or specifically targeting a worlds greatest monuments, even going as far to use a giant bowling ball to knock down statues rather then just Vape them. We see the Martians often responding with 'just' enough force so it seems like the Humans have a chance, but never really can do anything. This would almost make it seem that, if they had really wanted, they could have killed every human on Earth without landing a single Martian to attack. What this shows is that perhaps, their desire to 'dick around' with a lower race is such that they don't mind getting killed, Or, that they don't fear death in the first place and have a way of 'backing up' their organic bodies and making new ones. Something that isn't too far off given what we have seen of their tech.

Thats what I got out of it, anyone have anything else?

From what I remember, their energy beams were more like some kind of a funky chain reaction (melting of flesh but not the bones, turning the Eiffel tower in goo) rather than raw energy

When they sucked up the nuke, didn't the martians inhale it or smoked it?

Yes, I have to say I found that to be the most arseholish thing they did. Shrink someone and squash them like a bug?? Is there no end to their grandiose statements??

Mars Attacks is really a guilty pleasure film, isn't it? Some people absolutely loathed it, but I'm rather fond of it.
