City of Heroes/City of Villains

Anyone still playing it? I'm about to reactivate my account for winter break. I played it for a little while before but only got a few levels high before stopping. Looking for a server to play at and suggestions for character builds.

I played up to around level 21 until the sheer repetitiveness wound up getting to me. The level designs have almost no variation and the enemies are probably some of the most generic ones you can get in a game.

I play an guardian, red side. You're welcome to join our VG. We're mostly late-nighters. I get on usually around 9 or 9:30 CST. there's 7 or 8 other regulars. we're close, have a base with porters to all major red areas, and we help out each other.

if you decide to join, and log in today, send a tell to Raif Severance (Maybe Severence), Slowpoke, Not 47, Minerva Vazquez, Lord Dragok, Molumbo Mukjumbo, Leelue, Raejean Shadowglade, or Korbin Dallas. They're all members or alts who should be able to invite you. (Or...Stripe..I think I promoted him ...I forget.)

Anyhoo, We have no formal structure. but we like to do SF, and ouroboros (The time travelling place where you can do past missions and crap)

When you send a tell to any of those guys, tell them that you're a friend of Not 47's and he said "Invite him to the guild, and if you don't he's going to rip out your spleen and feed it to rabid weasels so they get your scent and then turn them loose to hunt you down as you try feebly to distance yourself from certain doom."

and if they don't believe you after that, tell them the names of my pets:

41 (poor 41...he dies so much), 42, 43, 44, 45, and 46.

45 is a fucking idiot.

Oh the VG name is Clan Killian.

Will pick up my 2 year veteran award on Dec 30th. Still haven't quite got my main on Union server (EU) to 50.

This is mainly because I get on well with a load of guys there and we end up nattering all day. Oh well.

I personally like the blasters and controllers of the heroes side and the Dominators and Masterminds of the Villain side, though Elec/Elec brutes are tempting. I presently have an Elec/Elec/Elec blaster as my main, and that's hours of fun. Don't do the most damage, but it screws the enemy over royally and has decent melée ability.

According to Starbound, it's a problem solvable with enough combat drugs to turn you into the Incredible Hulk.

I'm assuming that VG means villain group. Does it matter that I will only be playin for a month until I go back to school and not again until the summer ~May (my school's internet don't let me play CoH)? I haven't played CoH since 2005 before CoV came out, just bought CoV though so I think I will try it along with Heroes.

Your account should still be there as long as you remember your login information. You just have to pay to reactivate it.

Nah, we're easy. No "OMFG U ARE HAVEING TO PLAYING FOR 3 HOURS A DAY AND PVPV RAR!1!11" insanity, and since I'm a leader in the VG, even if it WASN'T okay, it'd still be okay. Or I will darken the sky with the ashes of those who oppose me.

I still play. Just over 6 months but I haven't managed to get my main above 40 yet due to coming down with a severe case of Alt-itis to try out the other ATs and then the devs had to go and throw us two new power sets with the latest issue update.

The only problem with Justice is that at my current level I can never seem to find a damn group to play with. Freedom and virtue are both good even if my ping isn't so hot, but then I don't care about PVP so it's not too much of an issue. My villain main is a level 26 mastermind (Go robot minions! Crush my enemies MWAHAHAHAHA!)

I am the one with no life, then. With the exception of a few months break, I've been playing since release - that's approaching 4 years now.

Because of my system specs, I can't play villain side for very long. But if you're looking to get into quick and easy action I hear Brutes are lots of fun. (Brutes are the primary melee class over there.) Another route to try, if you enjoy being the boss of everyone, is the Master Mind. At certain levels you are granted controllable pets. Again, a very fun class if it meshes with your playstyle.

I'd like to reactivate my account, however, PlayNC keep giving me the runaround on retrieving my password. Basically, something wierd happen and I forgot my password, and I don't have all the key codes (Three CoH and Two CoV: I have a PlayNC account and my younger sister made an account under my account, and I got the CoH Collector's Edition) as my mother has a habit of throwing away things she doesn't realize what it is and cleaning or rearranging things when you ask her not to. So when I try to ask how to get my account password and explain in excrucating detail, they tell me to use the password retrieval, and when I explain why I can't (again), they tell me to use the password retrieval. I've tried dozens of times to tell them that I can't give them any more of my money unless they help me out a little. :(

I'm still playing, too. Have my 42 month badge, even.

I don't play a whole lot, though. Usually in bursts around Events and Issue releases. Despite having an account for 42+ months, I've only got two characters up to 50--my hero, Pyroclastic (Fire/EM Blaster), and my villain, Mr Yuk (Rob/Psn MM). Both on Infinity.

I played that game for like 2 months, then got bored. I never even bothered with City of Villians since it wasn't an expansion, just another game that was exactly the same only with evil looking characters.

The funny thing about City of Villains is that it had even less to do. There were fewer options to pick from the start as far as organizations which made it seem so much more narrow and boring than CoH.

Can you give a link to these characters and their abilitie? I was unaware they even existed and am unaware of any specifics whatsoever, I'd just like to be able to tell you if you could do it.

Thats pretty fucked up considering how narrow and boring CoH was. I just remember playing CoH and wondering at what level I needed to be at to start having fun. I mean I got super-jump and that was awesome for like a day or 2. But then it dawned on me that I was just superjumping to places that had the same boring shit as everywhere else.

Shockingly enough, actually having items does in fact make a game more enjoyable.

Making a Superhero game really shouldn't be that hard, they just go way overboard with the WoW-ization of the powers. Unusual swiss-army powers like Superspeed and Flight are a lot better done in CoH than all of the combat stuff is, and since the game is only combat and moving TO combat areas, having half of the game be really lame just makes the "Fly Around" part more fun than the actual enforcement of Justice.

Seriously, everyone has the same idea of what they want from a Superhero game, even if everyone wants to be a different specific hero. CoH's big failing was making the game way too structured for the kind of gameplay that people generally desire in a super situation. Even people who want to be more of a Batman style 'research and prepare' hero want more freedom for their character, and a less ridiculous "You have three buttons to push" style combat thing. I liked the low-midgame of CoH where I was able to zip around, find packs of enemies, drop in from orbit and smash them up with my glowing fists--but then everything became way more about doing missions like WoW, and it really fell apart.

I hated the two choice game play, either you HAD to team, or you had to have some crazy ass macro and character optimize.

Kilts are one of the nine month veteran rewards, but Celtic Knots are one of the basic patterns, so you can probably just use something else until you get a kilt. For that specific power you mentioned you either want Tanker for Invulnerability or Willpower (Seems to be a mix between Invul and Regeneration) or go for Scrapper with the same. If you want to focus on soaking damage and be a tank I'd suggest the secondary War Maces (which only tanks get) and with the customizable weapons coming in Issue 11 you can get a shillelagh, or if you want to deal obscene amount of damage take Scrapper for Broadswords and get either the stock one or the flamberge.

If you didn't notice I'm a theme based player. :D

Oh and in case you wanted some more info on the CoH Back Story, Free Comics.

I do wonder how you think having items would magically create an interesting experience for you when previously there was none. Seems to me the beef you have with COH is one which would carry over to any MMO, whether they had items or not.

CoH, for me, was fun until 50, at which point it stopped. Sure, there are still missions...but they're no more than you could do on the way up. You don't go anywhere further at max-level than you could in the first place, aside from back to the character selection screen, or to finish out the TFs you missed. The Statesman/Lord Recluse TF/SFs help somewhat with that...but it's still a pretty piss-poor excuse for an endgame.
