So, by going on a rampage against this, aren't all these students and 'concerned parents' admitting, by default, that they represent this backwards, misogynistic, detestable sect of religion in general?

No, don't you see? The problem is that he wrongly thinks fundamentalism is backwards, misogynistic, and detestable, and then he has the cajones to turn around and say so in class. Clearly, he is an atheist who hates all Christians and hates America and democracy, too, for good measure. He's probably a pedophile, too, with those attitudes about God; I don't know why they let him hang around kids.
