Quick wtf question RE: Halo 2

Post by Colonel Olrik »

My brother got Halo 2 from a friend after we finished Halo 3, and the game in co-op mode is splitting the TV screen in two bullshit vertical bars, instead of two horizontals. I never had this problem with the original Halo or the new one. Are we missing a vital configuration or is Halo 2 truly this idiotic?

I have Halo 2 and the default setting is two horizontal bars. There's probably something in the settings or options that will let you change it, but I couldn't find it on mine. Sorry.

Bullshit? That's not bullshit. While VERTICAL bars is some degree of annoying, it isn't bullshit.

Bullshit is what Halo 3 does on my 40" 1080p tv, it takes it and makes it horizontal splitscreen but it leaves huge black spaces above and to the sides of this and why I have no idea. It's just fine in single player but coop it isn't just %50 of the screen it's substantially less!

From what I've seen, if you are playing on a widescreen tv, Halo 2 automatically does this in multiplayer. I don't know if there's a way to disable it. I just managed to get used to it when playing at a friend's house.

Try turning your TV on its side?

Are you playing on the 360, or the original Xbox? Halo 2 will put the players side by side if you're playing on a widescreen.

I think you can get it to display vertical, but you have to turn off widescreen if you're playing on the old school xbox.

Apparently this is 'normal'. Heavens, in multi they'd have to make the viewport a different shape to fit two on-screen... NAH, let's just scale the 1P viewport down and leave black letterboxing! What could go wrong?

It happened to me too, and it's hard to maintain the 'zomg Halo3 is jesus' thing when starting it up smacks you in the face with letterboxing. :)

That said, not having selectable H/V splitscreen is lame. Sometimes peripheral vision is more important, sometimes height is important. Flexible options are good.

Flexibility is overrated. Don't you remember that episode of Seinfeld with the gymnast?

I hate multiplayer just because of how much it limits vision. Halo is the only game I really play multiplayer though, and it's killer on Live because we'll all be trying to make do with a quarter screen, and these fuckers who are wasting us have a widescreen each.
