Borg vs the Adeptus Astartes
Hey all. I want to prove to someone on youtube by the name of resistanceizfutile2 that the Space Marines would make mince meat of the Borg. So here's a little scenario that I hope would prove the superiority of the Adeptus Astartes over the Borg.
Somewhere within the Delta Quadrant, deep with in Borg Space a strange anolomy appears (The Opening of the Warp) and a fleet of the Imperial Navy appears here's the size of the fleet.
4 Victory class Battleships
12 Avenger class Grand cruisers
20 Gothic class Crusiers
The fleet is also free to use Exterminatus, only if it is necessary.
So would I be correct in assuming that it would be all out obliteration for the Borg?

Technically, that fleet has no ships used by the AA. (Who use bright yellow vans).
The idea of Space Marines traipsing around a Cube essentially playing a game of shooting the fish in a barrel is so hilarious as to drive me into an uncontrollable giggle fit. RPG Bullets Vs Shields not known to resist kinetic energy = Fun For All The Family.

1) You are arguing with someone on YouTube.
2) The Imperial Navy has no relation whatsoever to the Astartes.

4) Yes, it would be a completely one-sided curbstomp. Given that WH40K has comparable levels of firepower to SW, and SW can obliterate the Borg, it follows that without even really getting into the numbers virtually anything from 40K would annihilate the Borg.

To be entirely fair, the Space Marines have been known to use classes of warship also in use by the Imperial Navy. They just tend to preffer their own marine-usage-optimised types.

Who wants to attempt to to fit a Hellfire Dreadnought into one of those corridors? There is quite clearly a sitcom waiting to happen here.

True but with the exception of a few captured ships, which are frowned upon, all the ships the have in common are small patrol and escort ships. The main sticking block with Marines and Navy Ships is that the Navy doesn't want the marines to have any Lance capability.NecronLord wrote:To be entirely fair, the Space Marines have been known to use classes of warship also in use by the Imperial Navy. Some chapters also have Naval capital ships dating from before the Heresy.True but with the exception of a few captured ships, which are frowned upon, all the ships the have in common are small patrol and escort ships. The Gothic rules happen to have an entire section on how to change a standard battlecruiser or battleship into a marine battle barge...Imperial Overlord wrote:Some chapters also have Naval capital ships dating from before the Heresy.True but with the exception of a few captured ships, which are frowned upon, all the ships the have in common are small patrol and escort ships. Indeed they do. Why should the Astartes be denied the joy of blasting their foes with the mighty nova cannon?Keevan_Colton wrote:

This scenario reminds me of a quote I once read in a review for a fanfic about something similar.
"Throwing Jem'hadar at Space Marines is like shooting watermelons at a Land Raider."
Replace the Jemmies with the Borg, and you get something similar.
Hell, all the Marines need to do is fire a few boarding torpedoes with troops armed with bolters and flamers and the cube will be history.

Yes, his battlebarge is one of the converted battleships that Keevan and I are mentioning.Dartzap wrote:I thought one of the Space Wolf ships had a nova cannon? Berek Thunderfists ship, IIRC.
